🚄 Shanghai Maglev: the fastest airport transfer you’ll ever take (and what no one tells you) If yo
If you land in Shanghai —
this is NOT just transport
👉 it’s an experience
⸻
⚡ 1. It’s the fastest commercial train in the world
• Speed: up to 431 km/h
• Distance: ~30 km
• Time: 7–8 minutes
👉 yes… it feels unreal
⸻
📍 2. Where it actually goes
• From: Pudong Airport (PVG)
• To: Longyang Road station
⚠️ Important:
👉 It does NOT go to city center directly
You’ll still need:
• metro
• taxi
• or DiDi after
⸻
💸 3. Ticket hack (save this)
• Standard price: ~50 RMB
• 💡 With flight ticket → ~40 RMB
👉 Show your boarding pass = discount
⸻
⏰ 4. When to ride for MAX speed
Not every train goes 431 km/h
👉 Highest speed usually:
• morning hours
• early afternoon
👉 some rides are slower (~300 km/h)
⸻
📸 5. Where to sit
👉 Sit in the front or back car
Why:
• best perspective
• less crowded
• better videos
⸻
🤯 6. What it actually feels like
• Almost no vibration
• Super smooth
• Digital speed screen inside
👉 watching it hit 400+ km/h = moment

⚠️ 7. Things no one tells you
• Not ideal with heavy luggage + transfers
• Metro after can be crowded
• Sometimes taxi is easier if you’re tired

A cafe with a million-dollar view.
The most memorable part of my Shanghai trip was strolling along the North Bund, wrapping up the day at the legendary Manner Coffee—the iconic cafe overlooking the Oriental Pearl Tower! 😍
Why is Manner Coffee a must-visit? First off, it honestly offers the best views of the city. Even on a gloomy or rainy day, clouds wrap around the dazzling spires while you sit back with a fragrant cappuccino and simply soak in the moment.
📍Address: 2F, Central Plaza, 381 Middle Huaihai Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai (上海市黄浦区淮海中路381号中环广场二楼). It's an easy walk after wandering along the waterfront. I'd definitely recommend snagging a table early on weekends—this spot gets super busy!
💡My top tip: Make sure to grab a window seat or chill on the cozy outdoor terrace if the weather is nice. As evening approaches, the city lights up, and it's absolutely magical! Try their signature flat white—the flavor balance is simply perfect. ☕✨
🚇How to get there: The subway is your best bet. The closest station is South Huangpi Road (Line 1), just a few minutes' walk away. You'll get to take in the futuristic architecture and vibrant city life along the way.
☕️Ending your day at Manner Coffee is the ultimate way to wrap up a North Bund stroll! Don't miss out on this atmospheric spot—it's the perfect place to soak up the big city energy.

Temples of Shanghai ⛩️✨
#shanghai
Four magnificent Shanghai temples that will take your breath away 🏯✨ Do you love a tranquil atmosphere, ancient relics, and a touch of magic in the heart of the metropolis? Then you'll definitely love my itinerary of Shanghai's best Buddhist temples!
My top 4 temples:
1. Jing'an Temple (Jing'an)
📍1686 Nanjing West Road, Jing'an District.
⌛️Open from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
💸 30 CNY for adults, 15 CNY for children.
This iconic site with golden roofs and stunning Buddha statues is worth visiting early in the morning—fewer tourists, more cozy places for photos.
2. Longhua Temple (Longhua)
📍2853 Longhua Road, Xuhui.
⌛️Open from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
💸 10 CNY per person.
The oldest temple in the city! It has retained incredible energy, perfect for contemplation and a little meditation. Tip: be sure to stroll through the pagoda garden.
3. Jade Buddha Temple
📍170 Anyuan Road, Putuo.
⌛️Open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
💸 10-20 CNY per person.
A secret oasis among the city streets, here stands a statue of a jade Buddha adorned with jewels. During lunchtime, you can try dishes at the temple's vegetarian cafe!
4. Donglin Temple
📍150 Donglin Street, Zhujing Town, Jinshan. ⌛️Opening hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
💸 30-40 CNY for adults (depending on season), 20 CNY for students and seniors, free for children.
A bit far from the center, but impressive in its scale and intimate atmosphere – you'll feel like you're in a historical film.
💡Helpful tips:
— It's best to get around by metro: all the temples (except Dongling) are easy to find using a map and trip.com.
— Don't forget to bring cash for candles, souvenirs, or donations.
— Observe the dress code: cover your shoulders and knees, and speak quietly – respect tradition.
— In bad weather, the temples are especially beautiful in the fog!

The view from the Oriental Pearl Radio & Television Tower 🏙️🗼🌊
The view from the Oriental Pearl Radio and Television Tower is truly breathtaking, as expected. 🫶
Each floor reveals something unique, making it a delightful experience for everyone—kids, the elderly, and all in between. There are also wonderful spots to purchase food, drinks, and gifts for loved ones.
While the crowds can lead to long waits for the elevators, embracing the journey is part of the adventure. To truly savor the experience, consider visiting during weekdays. Ultimately, this is a remarkable destination for capturing stunning photos, enjoying playful moments, and soaking in the awe-inspiring sights of Shanghai. ☺️

Thames Town Magic🍃📍Shanghai
Exploring Shanghai's Thames Town feels like stepping right into a slice of England—no passport required 🇬🇧✈️ Located in Songjiang District, Thames Town is a quirky, photogenic corner of the city with cobblestone streets, Gothic churches, and classic red phone booths. The highlight? Watching the sunset here is unreal, especially if you love snapping photos of cool architecture and golden hour vibes. Couples, take note: the spot is famous for romantic sunset shoots—the red brick buildings against mellow sky are seriously dreamy 😍
Top Spot to Visit:
Thames Town
Address: No. 230, Lane 900, Sanxin North Road, Songjiang District, Shanghai
Hours: Open year-round, all day—so come for a chilled morning coffee or take your time at dusk when everything glows.
Personal Tips:
- Bring your camera! The natural light at sunset and distinct architecture make for the ultimate Insta-worthy shots.
- Take a walk along the water’s edge, framed by willows and serene ponds—a wild contrast to central Shanghai's pace.
- Thames Town is perfect for a relaxed afternoon: there are plenty of benches under shady trees and lots of western-style cafes for a pastry fix.
Getting there: The easiest way is by metro—take Line 9 to Songjiang New Town Station, then grab a quick taxi or local bus to Thames Town. Super budget-friendly!
Need to know: No entry fee, and it’s open all day, so you can vibe here at your own pace. Best on sunny afternoons, but even cloudy days bring a moody, English-village feel.

A “hidden temple in the Buddhist kingdom in the sky” in Shanghai.
Walk through the Thousand Buddha Gate, and the moment you look up, it feels like the world stops.
Quiet, peaceful, yet the energy is so powerful it’s hard to put into words.
Donglin Temple is a hidden gem that still isn’t widely known, yet its grandeur ranks among the world’s best. The must-see wow moment is the giant Thousand-Hand Guanyin inside the building, standing over 34 meters tall!! When you stand below it, all you can do is tilt your head back and stare. It instantly makes you feel so small. Carved from fragrant wood and fully gilded, its presence is overwhelmingly powerful.
The Thousand Buddha Gate, a bronze gate over 20 meters tall, features 999 carved images of Guanyin arranged into the giant Chinese character “佛” (Buddha). It’s absolutely breathtaking.
The golden statue in the middle of the pond (which rotates 360°) stands on a lotus in the water.
When the sunlight hits it, it sparkles beautifully, and it looks amazing in photos. This place isn’t just “beautiful” — it has a calm, still atmosphere that feels like it gently pulls you back to yourself. If you’re into spiritual places or looking for somewhere that truly heals the heart, I highly recommend it.
World-class highlights: this place holds several world records, such as
🥇 the tallest indoor Thousand-Hand Guanyin statue in the world
🥇 the largest bronze gate in the world
🥇 giant-scale cloisonné artwork
Location📍 Donglin Temple (东林寺), Shanghai
The best time to visit is in the morning or from 3–5 PM, when the light is beautiful and the crowds are still thin. The vibe is incredibly peaceful. A hidden temple with world-class grandeur, a calming atmosphere, soul-healing energy, and stunning photo spots — this is a place you “have to save.”

Exploring the "Abandoned City in the Heart of Shanghai" — Himalayas Center.
Who would have thought that right near downtown Shanghai,
there's a hidden spot combining the vibes of an abandoned city + sci-fi art + creepy dreamcore?
This is the Shanghai Himalayas Center.
Walking inside genuinely feels like stepping into an alternate dimension.
The main highlight is the array of giant, twisted pillars filling the space.
It gives off the illusion of
a portal / a force field / an abandoned futuristic city.
Currently, many areas are quite deserted with lots of closed shops.
This only amplifies the atmosphere of being
beautiful, bizarre, desolate, and incredibly photogenic.
📍 Location
Shanghai Himalayas Center / 上海喜玛拉雅中心
869 Yinghua Rd, Pudong, Shanghai
(Search in Chinese: 喜玛拉雅中心)
🚇 How to Get There
Take Metro Line 7, get off at Huamu Road Station (花木路站),
and use Exit 3.
Free entry
🕒 Best Time to Visit
Late afternoon to evening is the best for stunning photos.
If you're aiming for a spooky, dark aesthetic, go around dusk.
📸 Photography Tips
Use a wide-angle lens or 0.5x mode.
Shooting upwards creates a "giant man-eating pillar" effect.
Capturing a small figure standing in the vast space = pure sci-fi movie vibes.
If you're shooting portraits, bringing a small portable light or flash is highly recommended, as some corners get pretty dark.
⚠️ Good to Know
This place isn't bustling like a typical shopping mall.
Certain areas are very quiet and dimly lit.
It's perfect for photography enthusiasts / city walkers / lovers of eccentric spots.
If you're looking for a "lively" vibe, this might not be for you.
But if you want to experience an "abandoned dream city," this is absolutely the spot.

🇫🇷 Shanghai, through the backstreets of Shikumen 🏮🇫🇷
#shanghai
If you're looking for the heart of old Shanghai, hidden behind a kaleidoscope of skyscrapers, head to the winding alleys of Shikumen. This unique place blends Eastern aesthetics with European chic. Here, Chinese-style stone gates open onto cozy courtyards reminiscent of Parisian neighborhoods.
Walking under the shade of plane trees and bright red lanterns, you'll catch that early 20th-century vibe. The ancient brickwork, antique shops, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee are the perfect contrast to the bustling metropolis.
Why you should visit:
Architecture: A stunning mix of Western gables and traditional Chinese "Lilong" elements.
Ambience: In the evening, when the lanterns are lit, the street transforms into a living movie set.
Photo: Every detail—from the signage to the greenery—is designed for aesthetic content.
This isn't just a stroll, but a journey through time, where every step reveals a new facet of Shanghai. Be sure to stop by for inspiration and a dose of peace in the heart of the city.

Recommended Shanghai Travel Itinerary
🌟 Recommended 3-Day Shanghai Itinerary
⸻
🗓 Day 1: RT-Mart & Nanjing East Road
On the first day, after checking into the hotel, we started with one of Shanghai’s lively shopping streets.
At RT-Mart, we browsed a wide variety of ingredients and soaked up the local supermarket vibe, which gave us a feel for Shanghai’s trendy side. The place was full of cute little products, so it was also fun to take photos.
In the evening, we headed straight to nearby Nanjing East Road.
Walking through the bustling streets filled with dazzling neon signs and crowds made Shanghai’s night feel even more special. We also tried some street food and found adorable snacks like rabbit candy.
⸻
🗓 Day 2: Panlong Tiandi Water Town
On the second day, we visited the charming Panlong Tiandi Water Town on the outskirts of Shanghai.
Thanks to the clear weather, the picturesque canals and tranquil bridges looked even more beautiful. We strolled between small bridges and traditional houses, took our time snapping photos, and sampled some local snacks.
Panlong Tiandi also has many stylish Shanghai-style cafes and boutiques, so we enjoyed exploring and shopping there as well.
It was a perfect day to soak in the relaxed and abundant spirit of travel.
⸻
🗓 Day 3: Yu Garden & Shanghai Circus & Huangpu River Cruise
For the last day, we planned an itinerary where we could enjoy both the classic and modern sides of Shanghai at once.
In the morning, we visited Yu Garden, strolling through its serene grounds and admiring the beautiful architecture and garden scenery. We also took a short break at a cafe and enjoyed a relaxing cup of coffee.
In the afternoon, we watched a spectacular performance at the Shanghai Circus. The show, blending acrobatics and circus acts, was absolutely mesmerizing.
In the evening, we took a Huangpu River cruise, and the view of Shanghai’s skyline from the river before sunset was truly breathtaking. The colors of the river and the city just before the sky turned fully golden were absolutely magical.

Shanghai has a "giant" exhibition that's free to see. It'll make your neck stiff from looking at it! 😆
Anyone who loves large objects will love this! This exhibition is a full-on showcase of "the beauty of grandeur."
After seeing it, I felt like my neck pain disappeared (just kidding).
Last week I went to see a new exhibition at... Shanghai Art Museum: The moment you step inside, you'll be "caught in the eye."
This is one of the "most worthwhile" exhibitions I've seen in 2026.
Title: 天地间 (Between Heaven and Earth)
– An exhibition of sculptures by 曾成钢 (Zeng Chengcheng)
📍 Location: Shanghai Art Museum
Zhonghua Art Palace (former Expo Chinese building)
🚇 Getting there: MRT Line 8, Zhonghua Art Palace Station, Exit 3
⏰ Hours: 10:00–18:00 (Closed Mondays / Last entry at 17:00)
📅 Until: April 7, 2026
🎟️ Admission: Free (No reservation required)
⏳ Duration: 1.5–2 hours
👤 Suitable for: People who appreciate large-scale works of art, sculptures, fairy tales, photography enthusiasts, and those with "stiff necks." 😆
1️⃣ “Beautiful Mountains and Rivers” Zone
Upon entering, you'll find: Pillars of deities, dragons, and giant statues lined up.
Recommended to take photos from a “low angle” to make people look small compared to the statues.
2️⃣ “Life and Nature” Zone
This zone is a bit softer.
There's a “lotus and water” sculpture where you can stand and take photos, giving you the feeling of being inside a lotus leaf.
There are many animal sculptures, with very detailed work.
3️⃣ “Echoes of History” Zone
The most impressive zone!
Bronze warrior statues arranged like an army.
There are “Chinese deities” carved into the walls, showing muscles so clearly it's amazing!
If you're in Shanghai, I highly recommend checking this out. It's truly WOW!!!

• You’ll find both mall locations and standalone street shops
→ They’re also easy to spot near major tourist attractions, so they’re very convenient to visit.

Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai
Yuyuan Garden (the Garden of Joy) in Shanghai is a classic Chinese garden located right in the heart of Nanshi Old Town. It is one of the city's main historical attractions.
• The garden was built during the Ming Dynasty and was founded in 1559.
• You can get here by taxi or by metro 🚇
Metro Line 10, get off at Yuyuan Garden Station
• The garden is open from 8:30 AM to 4:45 PM
• Admission to the garden is 40 yuan
• To find the garden, you need to walk through the lanes of Nanshi Old Town. You will see the entrance near the lake, which is located right in the center of Nanshi Old Town.
• I recommend coming here in the morning, during the first half of the day, or after 3:00 PM to avoid large crowds. And don’t come here on weekends or public holidays, because you won’t be able to fully enjoy the beauty of the garden due to the crowds.
• The garden is very beautiful and green, and the atmosphere here is very peaceful. It makes you want to stop time and admire all the beauty around you. There are beautiful ponds with fish, rockeries, bridges, winding paths, and interesting buildings. There is also a very beautiful jade rock here. It is definitely worth seeing 😍

How much does a week cost in Shanghai?
Planning a trip to Shanghai but not sure what budget to expect? Here's my rough estimate for a week for two.
I'll say right away that the price is very average and approximate. My mom and I weren't big on restaurants; we ate breakfast at the hotel, ate lunch at bakeries or 7/11, and had dinner at the most ordinary cafes.
Accommodation in Shanghai can also be found to suit any budget. We wanted a comfortable, new hotel in a good area, so we chose an option that wasn't the most budget-friendly, but also not expensive.
And, of course, I'll give you a separate breakdown of all our expenses.
🏨Accommodation (for two)
Hotel — $380 for 7 nights, or $190 per person per week
Activities (per person)
🎢 Shanghai Disneyland — $59🍽 XuYan Shanghai — $94🚇 Bund Sightseeing Tunnel — $7🌿 GreenHouse Garden — $14🎪 Shanghai Circus World — $57🧖♀️ Qushui Lanting — $176
Total activities: ~$407 per person
🍕Food and transportation (per week per person)
Food — ~$70–$75
Transportation — ~$20
Total: ~$90–$100
Total budget per person per week:
Hotel: ~$190
Activities: ~$407
Food + Transportation: ~$100
Total: ~$700
Total cost per week:
👉 ~$1,400 for two for a week (including hotel, food, transportation, and entertainment)
💛My conclusion:
Shanghai may seem pricey. But I must say that coffee shops and bakeries are comparable to Moscow, and the cultural program is absolutely worth it for the experience.
Shanghai isn't about "cheap"; it's about how much you can see and experience in one week.

✈️🇨🇳 10 HOURS in Shanghai — my layover plan (open for your recommendations!)
We will have 10 hours in Shanghai…
and instead of waiting at the airport —
👉 we built a mini-trip
And honestly?
It might become one of the highlights of the whole journey ✨
Here’s exactly what we plan to do 👇
⸻
🚄 Step 1: Airport → City in 30 minutes
📍 From Beijing Daxing International Airport → Shanghai Pudong International Airport
👉 then straight to the city using:
Shanghai Maglev
⏱ 7–8 minutes
💸 ~$7–8
🚀 speed: 430 km/h
👉 yes, it’s one of the fastest trains in the world
Then:
🚕 DIDI / metro → People’s Square (15–20 min)
👉 total time airport → center: ~1 hour
⸻
🏛 Step 2: Culture in fast mode
📍 Shanghai Museum
✔ FREE entry
✔ one of the best museums in China
✔ perfect quick stop
What to see:
• ancient bronzes (famous “meme lion”)
• ceramics & jade
• calligraphy
⏱ 1–1.5 hours is enough
⸻
🌆 Step 3: The Shanghai moment
📍 The Bund
This is THE view
👉 skyline that feels unreal
You’ll see:
• Oriental Pearl Tower
• Shanghai Tower
• Shanghai World Financial Center
⏱ 40–60 min
💡 Tip: just walk, don’t rush — this is the moment
⸻
🥟 Optional but worth it
📍 Din Tai Fung
👉 famous for xiaolongbao
✔ fast
✔ reliable
✔ perfect for layover timing
⏱ 45–60 min
⸻
☕ Step 4: Coffee with a VIEW
📍 Park Hyatt Shanghai
👉 90+ floor skyline view
Perfect for:
• coffee
• tea
• dessert
• THAT photo
⏱ 30–40 min
⸻
⏳ Step 5: Don’t mess this up
👉 Leave the city by 17:00 MAX
Route:
DIDI / metro → Maglev → airport
⏱ ~1 hour
✈️ Flight:
Shanghai Pudong International Airport → Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport
⸻
💡 Real tips (this is what matters)
✔ DO NOT try to do too much
✔ Choose 2–3 highlights
✔ Always leave buffer time
✔ Use DIDI (faster than metro sometimes)
✔ Screenshot everything (internet can be tricky)
⸻
✨ My takeaway
Layovers don’t have to be wasted time
👉 they can become mini-adventures
And Shanghai is one of the BEST cities for that
⸻
💭 What would YOU add to this route?

A fairytale castle in the middle of Shanghai.
Who would have thought there was a hidden European castle right in the heart of the city?
📍 Moller Villa
Located on Shaanxi South Road in Jing’an District, this building was constructed between 1927 and 1936 by a British millionaire named Moller. His daughter once dreamed of a fairytale castle, so he had it built based on the castle from her dream. The architecture is in a Norwegian-Scandinavian style.
It has pointed towers, steep roofs, arched windows, and colorful tiles, just like a European castle from a storybook. Every corner of the building is full of beautiful details, from the brick patterns to the windows and roof, making it feel like a small palace in Northern Europe.
Today, the building has been turned into the Moller Villa hotel.
You usually can’t go inside just for sightseeing, but you can book afternoon tea, have a meal, or stay overnight to access the interior.
Best time for photos
Around 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, when the sunlight is softer and the castle’s shadows look especially beautiful. The front garden is free to enter for a walk and photos.

OLD TOWN IN SHANGHAI 🇨🇳⛩️
• The Old Town in Shanghai (Nanshi District) is a must-see 👍
• Among the modern skyscrapers of Shanghai, the Yuyuan Old City (Nanshi) area will transport you back in time. Here you'll experience the atmosphere of real China: red lanterns, ancient Chinese buildings, and bridges.
• It's especially beautiful in the evening, so I recommend arriving after dark.
• You can get here by taxi or metro. We took metro lines 10 or 14. Take the metro to Yuyuan Garden station. As soon as you get off, you'll see the entrance to the Old Town.
Address: China, Shanghai, Huangpu, 四牌楼 邮政编码: 200000
• The Old Town is located around Yu Garden.
Yuyuan Garden is a very beautiful and atmospheric place, but it's best to visit in the morning. It closes around 4:00 PM.
• Therefore, we planned our itinerary so that we arrived one evening and strolled through the old city, and the next morning we arrived at Yuyuan Garden and strolled there.
• The incredibly beautiful illumination of all the buildings gives this place a special atmosphere.
• Here you'll find numerous shops selling souvenirs, tea, coffee, and other goods. There are also many cafes and restaurants where you can grab a bite. Incidentally, the prices here are the best in the city. So if you're looking for gifts, do it here. I was surprised myself that such a tourist destination had the best prices.
• Here we found an interesting chocolate shop, where at the entrance you'll see huge chocolate figures and the incredibly delicious smell of chocolate. I've included photos of this place with this story. You'll see this shop while strolling through the old town; be sure to stop in.
• We ate delicious squid 🦑 on a stick.
• We tried Turkish ice cream 🍦, which, by the way, is sold by a Turk himself, and he makes it so funny, using all sorts of tricks; the kids were thrilled. The ice cream costs 28 yuan. It's delicious, I recommend trying it; it was fun.
• We drank delicious coconuts 🥥
• We bought souvenirs to take home, which now bring us joy and remind us of our trip to Shanghai ❤️ #Shanghai #OldTown #Nanshi #yuyuangarden

Ji hotel shanghai people's square No.500
Ji Hotel Shanghai People's Square has many branches in Shanghai, but I recommend this one. Look for building number 500 to find the location I reviewed.
Atmosphere/Location - The place is clean, with a slight but minimal cigarette smell.
Highlights - ✅ Excellent location near Nanjing Road. If you walk down from the building and turn left, you'll enter the front of Nanjing Road. If you turn right past the 7-Eleven, it's a shortcut to Nanjing Road. Don't follow the map, it will take you the long way around.
✅ Near No. 1 Department Store Shanghai
✅ Near recommended restaurants: New Sukiyaki / Long Time Aged, located in No. 1 Department Store
✅ Not far from The Bund, a short and relaxing stroll away.
✅ BBQ / 7-Eleven on the ground floor, very convenient.
Average price per person - 1,800 THB per person
Rating - 10/10, no deductions.
Address - Near Fengyang Road, No. 500, Xizang Middle Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai, China
