Mizue “Mindy” was an amazing guide for Niigata. She carefully put together a very diverse tour that included: a panoramic view of the city, historic villa with traditional gardens, shopping at an open marketplace and a wonderful sushi lunch. The East Japan 10-Day Pass covers a wide area. From Tokyo to Aomori, the Shinkansen takes three to four hours, a long distance. Then, I traveled through Sendai, Matsushima, Fukushima, Omiya, Karuizawa, and Kawagoe Ichiban-gai. From Tokyo to the airport, it's very cost-effective. The JR buses in Aomori provide good connections between attractions, so I basically didn't need to buy additional bus tickets during my trip. Recommended.
