Quinta da Regaleira

Quinta da Regaleira is located near the historic center of Sintra in Portugal. As part of the cultural landscape of Sintra, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the main tourist attractions in Sintra. Quinta da Regaleira includes the romanticist Regaleira Palace, Regaleira Chapel, and a park featuring lakes, grottoes, wells, benches, fountains, and numerous exquisite structures. This estate is also known as "The palace of Monteiro the Millionaire." In the center of the manor stands a small curved city wall adorned with carvings of divine creatures. Passing through the wall and traversing a 10 m-long cave leads to an inverted tower-style deep well called the "Well of revelation." This well was not built for drawing water but for ceremonial purposes: its approx. 27 m-deep walls contain nine spiral stone steps—some say representing the nine founders of the Knights Templar, while others associate them with the nine circles of hell in Dante's Divine Comedy. The well's floor also bears a compass pattern with the Templar cross. Initiates were reportedly blindfolded and armed with swords as they descended the spiral staircase to the well's bottom, then groped through dark tunnels toward light. Both the upper and lower sections of the well connect to an underground tunnel network leading to the Labyrinth cave, Chapel cave, and waterfall lake. Entering through the Guardian's Gate, explorers eventually emerge from the well's midsection—the entire experience resembling a labyrinthine adventure. The garden also houses an "Unfinished well," featuring straight ladders linking circular platforms, contrasting sharply with the spiral staircase design of the Well of revelation.

Carmo Archaeological Museum

Carmo Archaeological Museum is located in the quiet Carmo Square in the Chiado district of Lisbon, right next to the Santa Justa Lift, and stands opposite the hill where São Jorge Castle is located. The stone roof of this Gothic convent collapsed during the 1755 Lisbon earthquake and was never rebuilt, leaving only the towering pointed arches, columns, and the remains of the rose window standing open to the sky. The weathered arches meet the sky, making it one of the few remaining visible relics of the great earthquake in the old town. The nave and the old chapels in the apse now serve as exhibition halls for the Carmo Archaeological Museum: the hall displays the Gothic sarcophagus of King Ferdinand I, the Roman-era "Muse Sarcophagus," Christian stone fragments from the Moorish period, and alabaster reliefs depicting the Passion of Christ from a workshop in Nottingham, United Kingdom. Hidden deep in the exhibition hall are pre-Columbian mummies from the Chancay culture of Peru, making this one of the few museums in Portugal that permanently exhibits South American mummies, which often leaves a deep impression on visitors. Returning to the square, a footbridge on one side leads directly to the top level of the Santa Justa Lift. Standing there, you can overlook the red-tiled roofs of the lower town and Praça Dom Pedro IV. The 1974 Carnation Revolution also left its mark here—the old regime that had ruled Portugal for decades announced its surrender at the Carmo headquarters next to the convent, adding a footnote of modern history to the ruins.

Carmo Convent (Portuguese: Convento da Ordem do Carmo) is a historic building in Lisbon, Portugal. Its medieval buildings were reduced to ruins in the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, and the ruins of its Gothic church are the main traces of the earthquake still visible in the city.

If you are a football fan, you should actually watch a game when you come to Lisbon. There are two famous stadiums in Lisbon. The Stadium of Light has more games and more complete facilities, which feels pretty good.

Santa Justa Elevator is the best place to view the street view. It is the oldest giant elevator in Europe. Looking down at the old town from the Santa Justa Elevator is another feeling. This is a good place to enjoy the street view of Lisbon city.

Absolutely recommended! As you walk through the period settings, you will soak up something of the realities of the people who once resided here and the times they lived in.

The Belém Tower Garden is a large green space next to the Belém Tower, a world cultural heritage site. The garden is shaded by trees and covered with green grass, and is crowded with citizens strolling and tourists resting. The most eye-catching thing in the garden is an airplane-shaped monument, commemorating the first time a Portuguese pilot flew across the Atlantic Ocean from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1922.

I don't understand why Lisbon has so many truly worthwhile places to see, but I don't really recommend tourist spots like the Grand Monastery or Belém Tower. Those places are indeed worth seeing, perhaps because they're relatively concentrated. But many great places are hidden away and unknown to most. This Royal Palace is one such example. It has dozens of exhibition halls and many exquisite artifacts from the original palace, far more beautiful than the Grand Monastery. Definitely worth a visit.
