The history of the city gate is the same as that of the new city gate. The old city gate is also equipped with iron fences. It was also a military fortification facility and a heavily guarded place. On the outside of the door, there is an English coat of arms, while the three letters VOC inside the door stand for Verenig de Oostindische Compagnie (Dutch East India Company). The three letters were engraved on it in 1669, with two lions next to the letters and a rooster on top. 2. After the Black Fort crosses the gate is Zwart Bastion (Black Fort), which is said to be built by the Portuguese and is an ancient bunker in the fortress.
