The best preserved in Chinese caves, the Maiji Mountain Grottoes are known for their clay sculptures. They have been created since the Sixteen Kingdoms and the Qin Dynasty. They have passed through the Western Qin, Northern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. For more than 1,600 years, there have been uninterrupted chisels and repairs. The three large Buddhas on the mountainside are the most eye-catching, the lines of the statue are extremely clear, the face is round, and the Buddha looks down on it, watching the world. From the face, these three big Buddhas have different expressions. The big Buddha in the middle seems to be a little wrinkled, and it looks more dignified and solemn. The big Buddhas on both sides are relatively relaxed, that is, they can be separated from the expressions. Master-slave relationship. On the chest, waist and shoulders of the Buddha, a small part of the plastic skin peeled off. This may be the protective layer that was added when the future generations repaired the Buddha, and then fell off due to natural causes such as wind, frost, rain and snow.
