The 73rd Sapporo Summer Festival 2026, a traditional summer event in Sapporo, will be held from July 23 to August 18. A variety of events will be held throughout Sapporo to make summer even more vibrant! Major events such as the Odori Park Beer Garden, the Bon Festival, the Susukino Festival, and the Tanuki Festival are some of the largest events where you can fully enjoy a Sapporo summer. Enjoy a beer, the evening breeze, and the Hokkaido summer. On the evening of August 2, 2025, a vibrant fireworks feast is about to unfold at the Sapporo Bankei Ski Resort in Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido. From 19:45 to 20:30, the 16th Bankei Summer Festival Large Fireworks Festival will bring visitors a fantastic experience. This conference is not only a visual feast, but also an auditory enjoyment. Visitors can feel the shock of fireworks blooming overhead up close, and experience the thunderous roar and brilliant light. At the same time, the conference also incorporates musical elements, allowing fireworks and musical notes to interweave in the night sky, creating an audio-visual feast. On the day of the event, there will be a variety of food stalls and kitchen carts in the venue, and visitors can enjoy the gorgeous fireworks show while tasting local specialties.

The Susukino Festival, which adds color to the summer in Susukino, attracts many tourists every year. Traditional events include a portable shrine procession and taiko drum performances. Various performances such as Yosakoi Soran Odori and stage dances are held. During the event, the roadside is transformed into a pedestrian zone every night, with about 100 food stalls selling yakitori, fried noodles and other dishes.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of this historic fireworks festival. From 8:45 PM to 9:05 PM, a large-scale fireworks display will take place over Lake Toya for 20 minutes (this may be cancelled if wind direction and speed are unstable).

The Sapporo Autumn Festival is a culinary event themed "Hokkaido and Sapporo's Gourmet Food," which began in 2008. It offers seasonal ingredients and local delicacies from all over Hokkaido, including specialties from various cities, alcoholic beverages, and dishes prepared by chefs from renowned Sapporo restaurants. Held across seven areas in Odori Park in central Sapporo, the festival stretches approximately 1 kilometer and features 300 shops, attracting over 2 million visitors annually.

The Lake Toya Fireworks Display is a popular long-run fireworks display in Japan. During the display, each night there will be hundreds of fireworks exploding over the Lake Toya. It lasts for nearly half a year and is widely liked by tourists. Since the fireworks are placed on the boat that rides on the lake, they can be seen throughout the entire hot spring street hotel and in the open air, which is very romantic.

More than 200,000 tourists visit Hokuryu-cho's "Sunflower Village" every year. From mid-July to late August, about 2 million sunflowers bloom across the vast 23-hectare site (about the size of five Tokyo Domes), a feast for the eyes. The entire rolling hills are dyed a vivid yellow, which is breathtaking, and the yellow of the sunflowers shines brightly against the blue sky, especially on sunny days. There is also an observation deck overlooking the sunflower fields within the venue, and the view from the two-story observation deck near the parking lot is outstanding. A mini observation deck a little further away is accessible to wheelchair users. The Mie Waterwheel in one corner is also one of the popular spots for commemorative photos. The sight of water splashing everywhere is refreshing on a hot summer day, and the pleasant sound of water echoes. The "Sunflower Soft Ice Cream" mixed with sunflower seeds is also a must-try dessert. During the Sunflower Festival, you can enjoy the "World Sunflower Corner" with about 30 varieties of sunflowers planted by local junior high school students, the giant "Sunflower Maze", rental bicycles and the Ferris wheel "Sunflower", and there are also fireworks displays and special events on weekends.

Kyowa Scarecrow Festival | Kyowa

The Kyowa Scarecrow Festival is a large-scale event held annually in Kyowa-cho, a town renowned as the "Scarecrow Capital." During the scarecrow competition, approximately 100 unique scarecrows are displayed throughout the area, bringing joy to visitors. Besides the scarecrow competition, there are many family-friendly stage performances, including cartoon character shows! There are also tasting and sales events for Kyowa-cho agricultural products, such as the local specialty "Thunder Melon"; a potato self-packing activity; and finally, approximately 1,000 fireworks are set off to bring the festival to a perfect close! A dance performance by the Sapporo International Information High School Brass Band (SIT Band) will be held at another venue—the Kyowa-cho Lifelong Learning Center Gymnasium.
