"The hotel was very dated and needed some retouching and revamp. I booked a smoking room but the smell of the smoking room was unbearable and I ended up upgrading to a non-smoking room when it was only available after a 2 night stay. The hardware of the hotel was really a downside. But it compensated with their excellent service, the amenities and the good location. It was very close to the metro. Basically it was only 3 mins walk to the metro platform. The hotel provides bath salt, face wash, lotion, hair band, and all the toiletries that are needed. Although the rooms are dated, it was well maintained and very clean. I would like to highlight, from the front desk staff to the cleaner, they were all very very helpful and polite, although some may not smile. I didn't try their breakfast as the spread didn't suit my preference. It would be good if a more extensive selection of breakfast choices are added, eg, kaisen don, curry, etc. To conclude, it was a family oriented hotel, so if you're on a budget, this is the right choice. Unfortunately I didn't manage to take a picture of the hotel room with my tight itinerary..except the thoughtful note for my baggage after I checked out."

"The hotel's location is excellent, very close to both the subway and JR stations. There are also many convenience stores and shops nearby, and it's quite lively at night. The capsule room size was just right, and it was super convenient to store my suitcase under the bed! The only downside was the poor soundproofing; people were packing their luggage late at night or early in the morning. However, the hotel thoughtfully provides earplugs, which was a nice touch. 👍🏻"

"We loved almost everything about this hotel. The price, the location and the cleanliness. Toiletries, slippers and bath robes are also always readily available in front of the elevator so you wont forget to take what you need before you go to your room. Our only concern was you cant leave your luggage for free. We had to use the coin lockers (500yen per locker) at the lobby but other than that, the hotel is very good for couples and families who would like to stay at a quiet area."

"The location is great – close to Meguro Station with convenience stores and cafes nearby. They provided two towels, slippers, a toothbrush, and earplugs, which was really nice. The bed was also perfectly clean. However, the smell around the shoe rack right inside the room was terrible and made entering and exiting the room quite unpleasant every time (though I guess it depends on the previous guests, I wish they could put out an air freshener or something…)"

"The room was a bit small, but perfect for a solo traveler. The hotel was very quiet and soundproofed well. For the washing machine, you need to tell the front desk 'laundry' and they'll give you a key and a card. Washing costs 200 yen, and drying is 100 yen; only 100 yen coins are accepted. Laundry detergent can be bought from the front desk for 100 yen per packet. It's very close to the subway, making transportation convenient. There's a Lawson downstairs for food, and a Yoshinoya not too far away."

"Facilities: It's a hotel with some history, so the facilities aren't brand new, but the room was clean and odor-free. It's on a high floor, and on a clear day, you can see Mount Fuji 🗻. Service: Check-in isn't until 3 PM, but the hotel offers free luggage storage. You just scan a QR code to fill out your information, and the process is very quick. Location: The transportation is super convenient, right across from Shinagawa Station, and it only takes half an hour to get to Haneda Airport."

"Location is very convenient, get to harajuku / shibuya / Ginza station easy without any transfer, about 20mins, close to odeo line, walking distance to donki and you can walk and see Tokyo tower in 15 mins walk. Get to the bottom maybe 30-35mins walk? Room is so small and layout is not that good compared with other small budget hotel in Japan. If you are solo traveler with suitcase not over 22” is fine. The smell of the room is hard to describe, stayed in 10F, my friend stayed another room and we both can tell the unpleasant smells are really bad, although air puffier on in the room but still 0 help. We didn’t ask to switch the room cause we check in late and tired, so far the 3rd day we get use to the smell, was a little crazy, other than that is not bad."

"The Daiwa Roynet Hotel Nishi-Shinjuku PREMIER is a small yet charming and exceptionally clean hotel, perfect for travelers looking for comfort and convenience in Tokyo. While the rooms are compact—typical for the area—they are well-designed and thoughtfully maintained. The staff are courteous and attentive, offering flexible options for daily room cleaning, which adds a personalized touch. Located about a 15-minute walk from Shinjuku’s bustling center and just 9 minutes from the nearest train station, the hotel strikes a great balance between quiet retreat and urban access. A solid stay for the price. Not to mention the restaurant connected was amazing!"

Getting Around Tokyo

Tokyo, the capital of Japan, draws a myriad of international travelers each year. Most international flights touch down at Narita International Airport (NRT).

Narita International Airport (NRT)

Location: Situated in the eastern suburbs of Tokyo, roughly 66 kilometers (41 miles) from the city center.

Go to the city center: The airport is linked to downtown Tokyo via the Narita Express (NEX) train, which whisks you to Tokyo Station in just 53 minutes. Alternatively, you can take Airport Limousine Buses or Taxis directly into the city.

Tips: If you're arriving on a red-eye flight, consider staying at one of these nearby hotels that offer airport shuttle services for a more leisurely start to your trip.

Haneda Airport (HND)

Location: Nestled in the southern part of Tokyo, approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the city center.

Go to the city center: Haneda Airport is served by the Keikyu Line and Tokyo Monorail, which take around 30-45 minutes to reach central Tokyo stations like Shibuya or Hamamatsuchō. The airport is also accessible via Airport Limousine Buses and Taxis.

During your visit to Tokyo, you can also choose these ways to get around:

Metro: Runs from approximately 5:30 AM to just past midnight, with fares ranging from ¥180 (about $1.1) for short trips to ¥930 (about $6) for longer journeys. Tickets can be purchased using cash, Transportation IC Card, or mobile payment apps like Suica or Pasmo.

[ Tips: Suica is a transportation IC card designed for short-term foreign tourists to Japan, valid for 28 days. The price ranges from ¥1,000~¥10,000 (about $6.4~$64). If you download the Suica app, you can just use phone to pass through the ticket gate. ]

Taxis: Easily hailed on the street or through apps, with a base fare of ¥410 (about $2.6) for the first 1 kilometers. Rates increase per kilometer thereafter, and it costs about ¥600 (about $3.8) to travel 5 kilometers (excluding waiting time and nighttime extra charges).

Buses: A budget-friendly option, there is a single fare within the 23 wards of Tokyo:¥210 (about $1.35) for adults and ¥110 (about $0.7) for kids.

Must-Visit Attractions in Tokyo

Tokyo is packed with amazing attractions like Tokyo Disneyland, where your fairy tale dreams come true; Tokyo Tower, offering breathtaking views of the city; and Shibuya Sky, where you can soak in the bustling energy of Shibuya Crossing from above.

Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland – it's not just any Disney park! Here, you'll find exclusive attractions like "Space Mountain" with its breathtaking twists and turns, and "Cinderella Castle" that glows beautifully at night. The park's total of more than 2,000 characters all use electronic sound action devices developed by Japan, making visitors feel as if they are actually on the scene.

Where to Stay: If you're looking to maximize your playtime, we highly recommend staying at hotels located nearby these parks that offer convenient shuttle services, like Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel First Resort, Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel and Spa&Hotel Eurasia Maihama.

Tokyo Disneyland

Great
GGuest UserThe hotel stay is wonderful. The hotel is huge with an enormous lobby, looks sleek, and is classy with the dim light. The lobby is located at 20th floor, no comments on the bf as I only booked the room without bf. Check in and out are effortless. Staff is friendly and approachable. Amenities in room are plentiful and abundant. All shampoo, conditioner and bath lotion come in big bottles so it is more than sufficient for use. Inside bathroom, you can control the volume and listen to the TV you on outside so it is very useful. In room has the Alexa which you can easily communicate with it for anything of interest to you. Besides, the hotel is very conveniently located, near to Shinjuku station and the nearby shopping malls. The room is huge and comes with bathtub and it has a balcony area too. Highly recommended for staying here in Tokyo. You will not regret definitely!

ZZhengzhuoxiahuashuoyanjingThe hotel is conveniently located just a few hundred meters from Akihabara Station, a short walk from the JR exit. The front desk has English-speaking staff to assist with check-in. If you sign up as a member during check-in, you can choose between a gashapon or a 1-hour late check-out. Japanese hotel rooms are generally small, but they are impeccably clean. Most hotels in Tokyo don't offer complimentary bottled water, but the front desk gave us two bottles upon arrival, and the tap water is potable. Each floor also has vending machines and microwaves, though the hotel's vending machines only accept cash, no card payments. Breakfast is served next to the front desk, but it's not very appealing to a Chinese palate. However, there are plenty of Starbucks and convenience stores nearby where you can grab a bite. The hotel's soundproofing is excellent; despite being right next to the railway, it's not noisy at all.

Ssulee17Dormy Inn Ueno-Okachimachi boasts an excellent location, being just the shortest walk from Ueno Station. On our way, we even spotted a Torikizoku sign, and we ended up dining there one evening. Of course, with so many restaurants right across from the hotel and in the surrounding area, my 'choice paralysis' definitely kicked in! The main reason we chose Dormy Inn was for its large public bath, complete with complimentary popsicles and Yakult after a relaxing soak. Breakfast was also fantastic; the fried shrimp in the morning was absolutely divine. The breakfast was so substantial that we stayed full throughout our two-day stay, meaning we even skipped their complimentary Yonaki Soba (late-night ramen) in the evenings. The hotel only has one elevator, so there was a bit of a wait during peak hours. From our room, we had a view of the Tokyo Skytree. Despite being right next to the Shuto Expressway, there was absolutely no traffic noise, which speaks volumes about their excellent soundproofing.

HHuajuangcyI almost overlooked this hotel after reading so many reviews. The room is indeed quite small, especially for the price of over 1000 yen, but that's pretty normal for Ginza, Tokyo. However, it boasts a natural hot spring. While not huge, it's still comfortable for a soak. The highlight, though, is definitely the small bar in the evening. I saw a sign that says non-guests can use the hot spring and bar for 5000 yen, so it's a really good deal for those staying there. It's completely self-service, but the breakfast, a single pastry and a bowl of soup, is a bit disappointing for the price. On the first floor, you can choose your pillow and there are many toiletries available. The transportation is also very convenient; a single bus from the airport takes you to Ginza, and then it's just an 800-meter walk to the hotel. The front desk also offers facial masks, and the staff were lovely.

YYuehaihongdieThe hotel is a convenient 6-7 minute walk from Ikebukuro Station's underground exit A20. However, coming from the airport bus stop, it took us about 15 minutes. Dining and shopping options are plentiful and convenient near the hotel; it's also very close to some specialty shops. There are many hotels of similar scale in the vicinity, most of them advertising their own hot spring baths (onsen). After comparing several options, this hotel stood out for its value for money, primarily because it offers triple rooms, which are quite rare in Japan. However, upon checking in, we felt that this type of triple room is really only suitable for families with children under 10. With my 15-year-old son, we were effectively three adults, and the room was so narrow that only one person could pass at a time. The window couldn't be opened, making it feel quite cramped and stuffy. The room layout was minimalist, but it came with plenty of power outlets and even a multi-head charging cable. Since there's a hot spring bath (onsen), most guests hardly used the in-room bathroom. Given the space constraints, walls in budget hotels are typically thin, leading to potential soundproofing issues. However, during our stay, everyone was very considerate, and we didn't notice any disruptive noise. Compared to other hotels, the onsen here has extended opening hours, so you can still enjoy a relaxing soak even if you return late. The bath uses carbonated water. While the pool isn't large, the water quality was impeccably clean. Many of the hotel's thoughtful details are truly commendable. For instance, women checking in receive a complimentary, exquisite beauty and skincare amenity kit daily, with two options to choose from. There's welcome juice at the front desk. Additionally, every day from approximately 4 PM to 8 PM, a complimentary self-service drink bar is available on the 2nd floor, which is wonderfully refreshing after a bath. Furthermore, each floor features a 'pillow bar' where guests can select their preferred pillow, put on a fresh pillowcase, and return it after use. Regarding room cleaning services: For consecutive stays, guests have the option to forgo daily cleaning, in which case they receive two complimentary bottles of water and fresh towels. If cleaning is desired, the 'Please Clean' sign must be displayed on the door before 10 AM, and service can only be performed after guests have vacated the room. The hotel policy strictly states that cleaning cannot be carried out while guests are present in the room. Moving on to breakfast: it's primarily Japanese style. While the variety isn't extensive, it's very comprehensive and sufficient to cater to most palates, with the small pastries/breads being particularly delicious. We had read previous reviews mentioning less-than-friendly front desk staff, but we personally didn't experience that at all during our entire stay. While they weren't overly enthusiastic, they were unfailingly polite and professional, always answering our questions thoroughly. In summary: this hotel truly stands out among similar budget-friendly establishments. A plaque in the lobby proudly displays its recognition as a 'Most Popular Hotel' for several consecutive years, a title it genuinely deserves. Aside from the triple room being excessively small and feeling rather cramped, all other details and facilities were excellent. For a stay of two people or fewer, who plan to be out exploring during the day and simply need a comfortable place to sleep at night, this hotel comes highly recommended.

GGuest UserI had a pleasant stay at the 9h nine hours Akasaka. The pods were comfortable and clean and the location was very convenient. However, the common space for eating was really small. The locker space was very crammed. They also won’t store your luggage after you check out so if you’re planning to do something on between the check-out and your flight/train you need to take your luggage outside.

GGuest UserThe location is great, the metro is maybe 1 min walk. By metro your only a few stops away from any big attractions. And after a long day in the city you can come back to enjoy the onsen. The only bad thing I can say about my stay was the someone in the capsule across from mine snored so loud it was nearly impossible to sleep.
