"Facilities: There are many leisure and entertainment facilities, and the projection equipment and screens in the room are very good. It would be perfect if there was a refrigerator in the room! Hygiene: This is my first time staying here. The environment and rooms are very clean and hygienic. Environment: A large green lawn, a beautiful and large garden, and a swimming pool. Highly recommended! If you order takeout, you need to go downstairs and out the door to get it. The service was excellent."

"There were many B&Bs to choose from when booking, and I chose this one with a score of 5. It was really good! First of all, the house is clean and not far from Disney. It is more interesting to stay in a B&B with children than in a hotel. Second, the boss's service attitude is very good. He drove us to Disney. Although breakfast was not included in the reservation, he also provided free breakfast. It is very humane. When we left the store, the boss had a cold and could not drive us to the subway station. He also took the initiative to send us a red envelope to take a taxi. Where can you find such a good boss! In short, I am very satisfied and will choose this place again when I come to Disney in the future! A little suggestion: It is better to hang a curtain in the bathroom, otherwise it will be inconvenient to take a bath if you take older children out."

"I found this homestay on Ctrip. Seeing that everyone had good reviews, I wanted to try it. The homestay is very unique, the public space is also large, and the shade of trees is very comfortable. I booked a cycling package. The original room was a basic room. After arriving at the store, it was upgraded to a suite. The room was large and there was a beautiful yard. The big projection also replayed Nezha 2. The dinner on the day of booking tasted good. It tasted like local farm dishes. The breakfast on the second day was delicious, and the set meal was very appetizing. In short, it was a very pleasant short trip. There was only one thing, the water volume of the shower head was too small, and it was uncomfortable to wash 😭"

"Stayed here for a couple of months, few times a year for business trip. Location is good as it’s close by to shops, restaurants and automotive companies. Breakfast was OK mostly local cuisine not much international/western options. This hotel provide free self service laundry (washer & dryer). Furnitures seem outdated but for the price its OK I guess? The carpets are the biggest let down as they look dirty and worn down. The aircond are not that good took some time to cool the room."

"The landlord was very good and bold. He started to communicate the reservation a long time in advance. During the period, he communicated with the proprietress a lot of details. Thank you for your patient reply. Because we are a team building of the company department, everyone has different requirements, difficult to adjust, and pay special attention to details. Entertainment facilities are also complete, there are table tennis tables, billiard tables, mahjong tables, can make the company those with different hobbies, choose more space. The homestay is very new, very bright colors, and very clean. I have asked some homestays before that they can’t have meetings. This one can have meetings, and the projector is also very clear. It is especially suitable for departmental team building. Although Chongming Island is incomparable to Shanghai, there are some inconveniences, but the landlord can help to purchase, Thank you so much, breakfast is also provided, very rich breakfast, I can see that I am very careful, this stay experience is very good, I have an appointment with the proprietress, next time I bring my family here for a holiday."

"I had a fantastic stay at Citadines Songhong Shanghai and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city. One of the standout features for me was the exceptional cleanliness of the entire property—from the lobby to the room, everything was spotless and well-maintained. It gave me real peace of mind and made the stay all the more comfortable. The location is also super convenient, with easy access to public transport, restaurants, and shops. Whether you’re in Shanghai for business or leisure, this location puts you in a great spot to get around the city with ease. Another major plus was the in-room washing machine. It made a huge difference, especially for a longer stay. Being able to do laundry right in the room was so convenient and really elevated the experience—it’s these thoughtful amenities that set Citadines apart. All in all, Citadines Songhong exceeded my expectations. Clean, convenient, and comfortable—I’ll definitely be coming back!"

Shanghai Travel Guide

Getting Around Shanghai

Shanghai is a city with a huge flow of overseas tourists. If you’re flying, there are two main airports: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). But most international flights land at Pudong Airport.

Pudong Airport is about 45 kilometers from downtown and handles most international flights. You can get to the city by metro, an airport bus, or if you’re feeling fancy, the Maglev Train—it’s fast and kinda cool!

On the other hand, Shanghai Hongqiao airport is just 15 kilometers from the city center and mostly deals with domestic flights. You’ve got metro lines 2 and 10 to zip you straight to city.

Tips: If you're catching a red-eye flight, consider staying at one of these hotels that offer airport shuttle services to make your trip a breeze.

Best Districts to Stay in Shanghai

If you’re not sure where to stay, areas like Nanjing Road, or Jing’an District are popular options for visitors.

As you're visiting Shanghai for the first time, do yourself a favor and stay near Nanjing Road. I've had countless friends visit, and this area never disappoints! You'll be right next to The Bund, surrounded by amazing food spots, and the subway can zip you anywhere in the city.

Additionally, Jing'an is lovely with its temples and fancy malls, Changning District is also really chill with beautiful parks like Shanghai Zoo and the beautiful Zhongshan Park.

Top Attractions in Shanghai

Shanghai is filled with a blend of traditional and modern attractions. From magical theme parks to iconic skyscrapers and historic gardens, there's something for everyone.

Shanghai Disneyland

Enter a world of enchantment where fairy tales come to life. Marvel at the lifelike animals in Zootopia, the first-ever thrilling zone inspired by the Disney·Pixar film "Zootopia." The park's magical atmosphere make it a perfect family getaway.

The Bund

Take a leisurely stroll along the Bund, Shanghai's famous riverside promenade. Lined with historic European-style buildings and modern skyscrapers, it offers a striking contrast between the city's past and present. Enjoy a river cruise to see Shanghai's skyline from a different perspective or simply people-watch as you marvel at the architecture.

Yu Garden

Step into the serene world of Yu Garden, a classic Chinese garden dating back to the Ming Dynasty. This picturesque sanctuary features intricate landscapes, ancient bridges, and tranquil ponds. Wander through the lush greenery and admire the delicate pagodas and rock formations. Don't miss the market nearby, where you can buy traditional souvenirs and snacks.

SSlingerlandI had to move out of my Appartment for construction purposes. The hotel is around the corner of my Appartment.  The room is super small and obviously a little bit bigger space would be welcome.  The scent is nice, but caused allergies around my eyes. KKhosIt was very worth the for 4 night stay. Breakfast was very excellent, tasty and delicious deserts, you can have any food type, drinks you could get. Service were excellent, such as receptions, they are easy to communicate in English compared to how difficult it can be to understand people at China. The location itself is very perfect. There is a nearby mall only 1 crossroad ahead you can get anything you like at there such as Starbucks, Subway, Pizza hut, KFC, Supermarket, Mcdonalds, and the metro is only few walks away which is SUPER convenient for us to transport. Also if you're visiting the Shanghai Disneyland they will transport you there without any charge. When we arrive in Shanghai again, we will definitely come back next time. Thanks to the staff members for excellent service.

RRx_travelsLocation was perfect (one crossing away from metro entrance) to get to The Bund and other iconic sites located on line 1 and 2. Service was excellent. As a foreigner I had many friends use Taobao to deliver before I had even arrived and the lady at the reception was able to confirm some of my deliveries had arrived before I even arrived at the hotel. They explained clearly where all the amenities were located and were very patient with all enquiries. Obviously the bunk room single room is cramped, however for the cost and other aspects I would definitely book again. For context two large check in luggage inside room will be cramped. I had to flip the chair upside down onto the table to make space for one of my bags while I used the other.

จารุวรรณDisappointing Experience at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai I stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai for two nights, and unfortunately, my experience was far from the luxury service I expected. 1. Discrimination at Flair Rooftop Restaurant On my first night, I visited Flair, the hotel's rooftop restaurant. Before going, I was told at the lobby that the restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations. However, when I arrived at around 5:50 PM, the restaurant was only 20% occupied, yet the host told me it was ”fully booked.” Then, the host questioned my intent, asking whether I was there for drinks or dinner. When I said ”dinner,” he suddenly mentioned a 1,600-yuan minimum spending requirement. I agreed without hesitation and ended up spending over 2,200 yuan. But what truly bothered me was the initial rejection and the selective enforcement of the minimum charge, implying that I was being judged based on my appearance or nationality. If the restaurant was truly full, why was I offered a table once I confirmed I would spend a significant amount? 2. Misleading Room Upgrade Offer & Hidden Promotions When I checked in, I had already booked a suite with a city view for around 4,000 yuan. However, the receptionist tried to upsell me a Pearl Tower view for an additional 3,300 yuan, which is an unreasonable price just for a different view. What’s worse is that she failed to inform me about an existing hotel promotion: (cant remember the amount exactly) If I pre-purchased 1,000 yuan, I could use 1,400 yuan at Flair rooftop restaurant. I only found out about this the next day and when I asked whether I could retroactively apply this promotion to my bill (which was charged to my room), I was told it was not possible because I had to buy the package in advance. Had I known about this offer beforehand, I would have gladly used it. Instead, the staff prioritized upselling me a more expensive view rather than informing me of real benefits available to hotel guests. 3. Concierge Service & Taxi Nightmare The service at the concierge was another major disappointment. I had a reservation at a Chinese restaurant across the river and asked the concierge to arrange a taxi for me. Knowing that taxis in Shanghai can be unreliable and tricky (as I had experienced the night before with an airport taxi taking me to three wrong hotels and turning off the meter), I was relieved when the concierge used Didi (a ride-hailing app) to book a ride. However, when the car arrived, the concierge instructed a bellboy to walk me to the car, but he never confirmed whether it was actually mine. Just as the door was closing, a woman with luggage rushed in, claiming it was her ride to the airport. It turned out the car was not for me but for an entirely different passenger! At this point, I was already late for my dinner reservation. When I walked back to the concierge to ask what happened, he seemed irritated and dismissively said, ”Don’t worry” before reluctantly walking me to the correct car. This lack of professionalism and carelessness was incredibly frustrating. If you’re arranging a ride for a guest, ensure they get into the correct car. Final Thoughts This all happened in just one night—I can't imagine what else could go wrong during my stay. I sincerely hope no other guests have to go through such an experience. The Ritz-Carlton brand is known for its luxury and top-tier hospitality, but what I encountered was discriminatory treatment, misleading sales tactics, and poor service coordination. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves their service, ensuring all guests receive fair and professional treatment, regardless of their appearance or nationality. Ps: nice swimming pool by the way!!

GGuest UserI like this hotel. It is next to the Huangpu River, suitable for morning and night jogging. From the window, you can see the ships passing by the Huangpu River and a cafe in front. The front desk staff is smiling and enthusiastic, and the room service is also good. The room layout is practical and the area is suitable for a family of two. The breakfast is complete and nutritious. It is not far from the West Bund Art Center, a new landmark in Xuhui, and it is smooth to the north along the river. I will consider coming again.

GGuest UserWe booked a Parent-Kid Suite, which was advertised to accommodate four adults, but throughout our stay, only three towels were provided. Additionally, the only bathroom is located right next to one of the bedrooms, with no door and a fully transparent shower space. This setup is extremely awkward and inconvenient unless you’re traveling with very young children. The noise from the bathroom also inevitably disturbs whoever is sleeping in that bedroom. Another disappointment was the check-in process. We arrived at the hotel around 4 PM, but the front desk informed us that our room was still not ready due to a late check-out from the previous guests. This was frustrating, especially after a long flight, as we had expected to check in on time and freshen up immediately. That said, aside from the strange room layout, the hotel does have its positives. The location is great, with a partial view of The Bund, and the price is reasonable for this area. Overall, while the hotel has potential, the room design and service need improvement.
