Patriote de la Zone Presents: Building Blocks of Hope Since 2002 Patriote de la Zone’s mission has been to promote a brighter, sustainable future for Haitian children and their families through education and community involvement. Our preK – 9th grade school, with an enrollment of over 550 students, provides the opportunity for children to learn how to read and write so that they might play an active role in Haiti’s future. About this event On Saturday, April 25, our evening of live musical entertainment, pop-up fashion shows, delicious food and inspirational stories is a special opportunity for you to play a vital role in the launch of our new Vocational Training Center. The center will be a place with the space and resources to offer classes focused on teaching valuable vocational skills that provide tangible opportunities for the Haitian community we work with to improve their economic lives through self-reliance and personal effort. Help us clean-up our community and then celebrate with a tasty pint at Grey Sail Brewing Company of RI. This year, The Westerly Land Trust and The Greater North End Community Development Corporation are teaming up to expand our Earth Day–inspired community trash pick-up. Volunteers will help clean up areas in and around Westerly Land Trust properties, as well as the historic North End. After the clean-up, everyone will gather back at the Canal Street parking lot to consolidate trash, which will be transported to the dump the following day, weighed, and reported back to all participants. As a thank-you for your efforts, participants will receive a token to enjoy a complimentary beverage of your choice at Grey Sail Brewing Company of Rhode Island . Please note, token must be used on day of the cleanup. Many thanks to Grey Sail Brewing Company of Rhode Island for hosting our clean-up crews! Vetrano's Wood Fired Pizza will be open for purchase. Things to Know Registration is required to help us determine how many preserves we will be able to tackle with our crews! We will all meet in the parking lot at 14 Canal Street , then disperse into our cleanup crews from there. We recommend comfy shoes, and you may consider wearing long sleeves. Please bring gloves, buckets, and trash pickers if you have them– we’ll share what we have. From tiny songbirds to soaring hawks, learn how to spot, identify, and understand the feathered wildlife that calls our preserve home. All students will be bused to Wahaneeta Preserve from school , and transportation home is available. Learn to knit a chunky blanket without needles! No experience required. Chunky Knit Blanket Party - Narragansett 4/28 Chunky knit blankets are all the rage lately and you'll be surprised how easy they are to make! The hand knitting technique is a life long skill that is therapeutic, meditative and fun. Tickets include materials (112 yards of yarn) + the two hour knitting experience. Table space diminishes as blankets get larger. You are welcome to bring a small pillow or yoga mat to sit on, should you choose to move to the floor for more space as your blanket gets taller. Bags will not be provided. If you don't wish carry your project, we encourage you to bring a large tote to carry your blanket and any working yarn home in. Participants may choose from a variety of seasonal colors, including neutrals such as ivory and gray, on a first come, first served basis. CANCELLATION POLICY: Due to inventory and limited spacing, we are unable to issue full refunds. Join us for an intimate artist conversation exploring the creative process behind Ballet RI’s world-premiere production of Machinal! This special evening invites community members into the artistic journey from script to stage through a live talkback with members of the creative team, including theater director Rachel Walshe and dancer Yury Yanowsky. Machinal by Sophie Treadwell tells the story of a woman driven to violence while trapped within the rigid expectations of a patriarchal society, inspired by the real-life case of Ruth Snyder, a woman executed in Sing Sing Prison for the 1927 murder of her husband. Treadwell uses the word Machinal  as the title of this play to refer to a woman caught in the mechanics of a woman's expected life path and the disastrous results. This story exposes the enduring impact of societal pressure on women’s autonomy and challenges us to confront how systems can still silence women. Together, we will explore how written stories are translated into movement, how choreography can deepen emotional storytelling, and how collaboration shapes a new work. This program offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with the artists and gain deeper context ahead of Ballet RI’s Providence performances. Following a conversation with members of the artistic team, participants will be able to engage in a Q+A session and learn more about the upcoming show, which will run May 7-10 at the Ballet RI Black Box Theatre and May 14-17 at the University of Rhode Island J Studio.
