Giant Lantern Festival | San Fernando

Giant Lantern Festival | San Fernando

Dec 13, 2025–Jan 15, 2026 (UTC+8)
San Fernando
Celebration
The Giant Lantern Festival dates back to 1908. The initial lanterns were simple, but over time and with technological advancements, their design and craftsmanship have become increasingly complex and spectacular. The festival involves eight to ten villages in San Fernando City, each creating its own unique designs, color combinations, and interactive light and sound effects, earning San Fernando City the title of "Lantern Capital." As December approaches, San Fernando City in Pampanga province, known as the "Christmas Capital of the Philippines," is preparing for the highly anticipated 2025 Giant Lantern Festival, when the city will be more dazzling than ever. This year's celebrations will take place on December 13, 2025, at 5 p.m., with a grand competition held at the San Fernando Robinson Mall. This festival is more than just a light show—it's a celebration of art, culture, and community pride. Dozens of villages (local communities) will display enormous lanterns—each ranging from 14 to 18 feet in diameter (or even larger)—illuminated by thousands of LED bulbs, changing into mesmerizing patterns in sync with music.

Join the upcoming 2023 Bataan Memorial Death March Qualifying Events in Hicks, Louisiana. This solemn event commemorates the brave soldiers who endured unimaginable hardships during World War II. On April 9, 1942, 75,000 US and Filipino soldiers were surrendered to Japanese forces after months of battling in extreme climates. Among them were members of the 200th Coast Artillery, New Mexico National Guard. During the Bataan Death March, these soldiers faced horrifying conditions, deprived of basic necessities and subjected to brutal treatment. Forced to march 65 miles through the scorching jungles of the Philippines, thousands lost their lives along the way. It wasn't until 1945 that the US-Filipino forces recaptured the lost territory and freed the prisoners of war. To honor their sacrifice and remember their courage, the Bataan Memorial Death March has become a significant event. Since its inception, participation has grown from about 100 to approximately 9,600 marchers, including both military personnel and civilians. Many march to challenge themselves, embrace competition, or foster unity within their units. Some also march in honor of family members or veterans who experienced the Bataan Death March or were taken as prisoners of war. The 2023 Bataan Memorial Death March Qualifying Events will take place on October 20 at the Alligator Lake Staging Area in Hicks. Remember to bring bottled water, bug spray, and a towel. Please refrain from bringing animals, weapons, or alcohol. Parking will be available in the Alligator Lake Staging Area, just across the street from Alligator Lake Recreation Park. Join us in paying tribute to the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice. Admission is free, so don't miss this opportunity to participate in a meaningful and challenging event.
