Great
GGuest UserImpeccable Service From the moment we arrived, the hospitality at Takenokura Sansou was exceptional. The receptionist came out to the car park to welcome us personally and escorted us to the reception office. He and his colleague then helped unload our luggage and thoughtfully delivered everything to our room. The warmth extended well beyond the front desk. As we walked through the dining hall en route to our room, even the chef greeted us with a smile, which immediately made us feel genuinely welcomed. The staff took the time to explain all the room amenities in detail, including how to adjust the temperature of the private outdoor onsen. At the dining hall, the service team was consistently friendly and approachable, despite my limited Japanese. They served us with patience and sincerity—even when my son happily requested four servings of their heavenly dinner rolls. Upon checkout, the team came out again to bid us farewell. This was, without question, the best service we experienced throughout our 18-day journey across Kyushu. Facilities While some aspects of the room décor and appliances are dated, everything was immaculately clean. As someone particularly fussy about bedding, I can confidently say that Takenokura Sansou offers the best futon I have experienced since I began traveling to Japan in 1999. The quilt was fluffy and soft, while the futon was firm yet incredibly comfortable. I honestly wanted to stay longer just for the sleep. The private outdoor onsen was the highlight of our stay. The small garden was beautifully arranged, creating a serene and intimate atmosphere. The water temperature could be easily adjusted, and soaking while gazing up at the sky was pure enjoyment. The room layout was clearly well thought out, with the shower located just before the outdoor onsen and a door to keep out the cold—allowing you to warm up comfortably before stepping outside into the winter air. A small heater near the porch area by the toilet would be a welcome addition to make late-night visits more comfortable, but this is a very minor suggestion. Dining This was probably the best dinner we had during our time in Kyushu. Takenokura Sansou surprised us with a beautifully executed fusion-style, course-by-course kaiseki meal. Combined with cocktails and warm interactions with the charming and friendly oba-chan service staff, the entire dining experience embodied what I love most about Japan: excellent food, heartfelt service, and meticulous attention to detail. One moment stood out in particular. When my son asked—in English—whether he could have a fourth serving of the dinner roll, the chef unexpectedly emerged from the open kitchen and personally served him a freshly toasted roll with soft butter. We were genuinely delighted and deeply touched by this thoughtful gesture. Conclusion Everything about our stay at Takenokura Sansou was exceptional. My only regret is booking just one night. I will most certainly return if I visit the Mount Aso area again. Well done, Takenokura Sansou—you truly deserve this praise.

เปรี้ยวไปเรื่อยIt was actually pretty good, not as bad as some of the Google Maps reviews suggest! Our triple room was huge; we could easily open three suitcases and still had a sofa area to relax. The room was clean, even the AC vents in the bathroom were dust-free. All the toiletries were provided. They have a karaoke room, a common lounge for reading, a gym, a ping-pong table, a walking track, and massage chairs. After dinner, I even went to burn off some calories by playing ping-pong. There's an onsen with a public bath and six private onsen rooms, all free and available all night without booking! The front desk staff were polite and friendly, and they communicated well in English. Even though there were three tour buses full of Thai and Korean tourists, it wasn't chaotic at all. For dinner, the all-you-can-eat crab wasn't huge, but it certainly wasn't tiny and meatless. And there was a wide selection of free alcoholic drinks, so it's probably a drinker's paradise!

HHJHKPros- spacious villa, quality bedding and large private indoor onsen( see picture 13). We also like the public outdoor onsen in the sister ryokan nearby. There is a little cafe there you can buy drinks and coffee, run by an adorable old couple, very nice and polite. We spent a lot of time there just chilling and listening to the music. Cons- Living room: we were only able to book the western style villa as it’s a little last minute trip. The living room is basic, bland, with sofa, instead or tatami. Our room 512 is next to the car park. Parking lot in front of your main door is not very pleasant. Food : just soso. Nothing extraordinary. See picture. No horse sashimi, the presentation of the steak is really ordinary - disappointing. Perhaps because we had such an amazing meals in the previous ryokan this became a massive letdown. Dinner served in a large public dining room, lack of the privacy and intimacy ther ryokan provide ( we had private dining room in another ryokan 野之花during this trip). I got to see other couples but also feeling like we are being watched. Service- served by young people, not much attentiveness you would expect in traditional ryokan, lack of the warmth and ritual. Reception- 3 star at best. A basic room with uncomfortable chair while you wait to be checked in. We arrived around 2:30pm, and was told that check in can only start at 3pm, and please wait. So we sat at the hard chair and forced to watch the promotional video until 3pm. Conclusion - 3.5 star ryokan, not the most exciting or exclusive villa we have stayed. Maybe it would get better once the trees grow thicker and staff better trained. The sister Ryokan nearby has better feel of environment and feels more established.

GGuest UserReally nice place to stay in, exclusive experience, you don’t really need to do any onsen hoping if you stay here, one private onsen booking per day which means 2 booking for one night stay and you have got guest only public onsen which alternate each day. They were kind enough to accommodate our vegetarian diet even though they weren’t too happy about that because they had to change their whole menu, so I would suggest checking with them before making the booking. Overall, definitely worth it.

GGuest UserI finally realized my long-held dream of staying here, having booked the room over half a year in advance. Its location is indeed quite remote, nestled deep in the mountains. Upon arrival, a car picked us up directly from the hot spring bus stop, and the elderly driver was incredibly warm and friendly! The heavy rain on the day of our visit truly enhanced the ambiance. The room itself was incredibly spacious. Surprisingly, even in June and with the rain, it got so cold at night that we needed to turn on the air conditioning. The cuisine was also quite sophisticated. Dinner was exquisite, though the portions were a bit on the small side, leaving me not quite full... The private six-foot outdoor bath was absolutely unforgettable – a definite must-book! If I had to nitpick, for a price tag exceeding 3000 (currency unspecified), I expected the service to be a touch more enthusiastic and friendly. I couldn't shake the feeling of being treated slightly differently (compared to what I observed for local Japanese guests and Westerners). Having stayed at no fewer than 10-20 hot spring ryokans in this price range, I'd say claims of 'superb service' are a bit of an overstatement. Overall, I'd give it an 80/100, and despite the minor points, I still highly recommend it!

ぶんきっきI arrived a little early, but I was happy to check in. It was a very smiling response from the pick-up to the guide to the room. The meal also used plenty of local ingredients, and it was especially delicious that the vegetables picked at the home farm were impressed. The staff seemed to be foreign, but I thought Japanese was good and very smiling and wonderful.

SSphinxyAfter being on the sky and a layover in Tokyo for almost 12 hours, stepping into The Blossom room is truly a treat. Only like 10 meter away from the JR exit and the car rental shop, its convenience is definitely a bonus! The rooms were clean and modern, towels and amenities all prepared for the 2 nights we were there. The hotel also had a hot bath and laundry! The cool thing is that we would check the status of the laundry machines and how crowded the restaurant and hot baths were, which is super convenient. Food wise, the breakfast buffet was amazing featuring local dishes like the mustard renkon (lotus root) and the Ikinari Dango. I honestly wished I had one more night in Kumamoto, and especially staying in The Blosson.

GGuest UserProbably my favourite hotel ever. The riverside view was unbeatable, the food incredible and there was a variety of onsen baths that overlooked the river. I had a premium room and the standard still surpassed my expectations. There were nice touches like a choice of pillow types, lovely yakuta to wear and dimmable lighting design. The staff were very responsive and lovely - I left my Kindle behind and they forwarded it to my next hotel within 24 hours.

HHJHKI love almost everything about this ryokan - the facility, the room( it’s a massive suite with living room, Bedroom, private onsen and private bathroom etc. very spacious) the outdoor onsen, the private onsen… The highlight is the food! Absolutely amazing! It’s seasonal and high quality with horse sashimi, tuna toro, even the starter is delicate and delicious; and two types of local wagyu beef - melt in your mouth. We have been to many ryokans over the years, with some charging double the price than we paid here, and I would say this is one of our favourite. Our waiter was a lovely young man who can speak good Chinese and tell us about his recent trip to HK. We adore him. I used the massage chair a lot every time after the onsen bath. It’s heavenly. We went to another ryokan (深山山莊)afterwards in the same area and it can’t compare to this level of comfort or food quality. The only one slight con is that our room has no view as it’s surrounded by the walk path and buildings, and we have to keep it shut the whole time. Maybe because I booked last minute and can only have the last room. But the public outdoor onsen is looking into the stream, it’s beautiful. Another highlight is the massage chair in the suite.
