Loch Kinord Hotel

Loch Kinord Hotel

📍 Ballater Road, Aboyne
★★★ 8.4 (25 reviews)

"Andrew was very accommodating and friendly, upgraded us to a superior room and did a discount on the breakfast. We asked if we could swap to the twin room rather than the double bed after one night and it was no problems. The hotel is in a good location for activities such as cycling and hiking. Hotel is nice and clean, good breakfast."

Lys-Na-Greyne

Lys-Na-Greyne

📍 Rhu-Na-Haven Rd, Aboyne
★★★★★ 9.9 (17 reviews)

"Joyce and Garry are exceptionally friendly hosts. The lovely forest location of Lys na greane sits directly on the banks of the River Dee. Turns out it’s a wildlife haven with red squirrels and a pine martin by the feeder. Red kite flying across the fields on the opposite bank. We loved every minute of our stay in this very peaceful location. The house is beautifully furnished. Afternoon tea and cake by Garry, each cake delicious. Our room has a beautiful view overlooking the river with a very comfortable bed which allowed for a sound nights sleep. Tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfasts delicious especially recommend the porridge, made to order as was all the hot food. Very much looking to returning soon."

Douneside House

Douneside House

📍 Tarland, Aboyne
★★★★ 9.5 (50 reviews)

"We spent a couple of nights at Douneside and absolutely loved it. The staff are so helpful and friendly, giving us a great welcome. Our room was extremely comfortable with lovely touches such as real milk in a little fridge plus a complementary G&T in the room, and a dram of whiskey. The food was a real highlight too - the chef managed to deliver a tasting menu during Storm Amy when the electrics weren’t sure what they were doing! All credit to the entire team, they handled it with a smile and good humour. What a fantastic stay - we will definitely be back!"

The Commercial Hotel

The Commercial Hotel

📍 19 The Square, Aboyne, Tarland
★★★★ 9.1 (44 reviews)

"I’ve stayed in this hotel before and decided to go back. The staff is very friendly and helpful."

Aberdeen Arms Hotel Tarland

Aberdeen Arms Hotel Tarland

📍 31 The Square, Tarland
★★ 5.2 (4 reviews)

"The rooms stink like guiness inspired sh*te, they don’t change the bed sheets from the previous guests. There’s more meat floating about their pints than there is on the bar tender, if you’re feeling wild enough to stay, just drink their bottles drinks. They don’t serve food but they’ve got their own ecosystem of mushrooms growing in the rooms so you may aswell help yourself to that (they ain’t gonna clean it). Stay away!"

Lys-Na-Greyne ★★★★★
"We stayed 3 nights at Lys na Greyne hosted by Joyce and Garry. The room was beautifully furnished and comfortable. The house was well cared for in a tranquil garden setting overlooking the River Dee and surrounding fields. Meals were consistently excellent, made to order by Garry using the best local produce. Joyce runs things with military efficiency but always with a warm smile. We felt that this was the highlight stay in our trip to Scotland, surpassing other notable establishments where we stayed. I can 100% recommend a stay at Lys na Greyne."

"Fantastic birthday lunch in the Conservatory. Wonderful menu laden with local produce, beautifully prepared and served. The atmosphere in the Conservatory was extremely comfortable and relaxed and, as a music lover, the playlist was just right, a great selection of well known classic hits played at a perfect volume. For this standard of food and service I think the cost was very reasonable and look forward to returning soon. Highly recommended!"

Traveling with friends
Aberdeen Arms Hotel Tarland ★★
"Booked in for two nights with another couple and paid on arrival. Both rooms were filthy, carpets ill fitted, extension cables used to plug in appliances and a damp smell which was apparent throughout the hotel. We made the decision to cut our losses and instead stayed at the Commercial Inn just down the road. When we explained to the owner the reasons we couldn't stay she just took the keys with a shrug. We later learned from someone who used to work at the Aberdeen Arms that the good reviews are left by owners' family members and staff. Easily the worst hotel I have ever booked."
