Just returned from our 3rd stay @ Hotel Akumal Caribe ~ had a wonderful time. Loved our ground floor (deluxe kitchenette) room (406) just steps away from the pool & beach. Nothing better than waking up to the birds singing & enjoying a cup of coffee on our patio. You know your day is going to be a good one, when Juan (goundskeeper) greets you with a ”Hola, Buenos Dias” as he starts his day. But, then ALL the people employed @ this property are super friendly & make you feel like family each & everyday. Our room was cleaned by a very nice gentleman (forgot to get his name) always with a smile & a ”hope you are having a nice visit.” We had all our meals down by the Lolha ~ excellent food/drinks/service!! Big ups to Oscar, Willy, Rafael, Alberto, Jordy & the rest of the crew. Again, always service with a smile. Hotel Akumal Caribe & The Lolha are a perfect example of how a property/restaurant should be run & I'm sure other properties could learn a valuable lesson from them. Stayed for a week in March in a Honeymoon Suite (room 7615) on the Seaside Suites side. The rooms are starting to show their age with missing sink drain covers, rust around the sliding door handle and balcony pool area and a closet door that wouldn't stay open and would wake the neighbors with it's squeak. The paper thin walls are shameful for a hotel. Concierge services were somewhat of a joke. It took almost 2 hours to schedule a massage, two dinner reservations and the beach dinner. All of which were included with the room and nothing out of the ordinary. You can tell staff do not know what they are doing and seem confused. We waited 2 and a half hours for dinner at Culinaroum the first night after getting the buzzer at 6pm. I had to fight to get a table after seeing numerous sitting empty. After talking with others & several more long waits for food, it became obvious that they held tables for the vacation club members in case they showed up and made others wait. We missed eating breakfast one morning after waiting over an hour and a half for the food to arrive bc of our spa reservation. That kind of a wait for breakfast food is unacceptable. The app is not helpful. Restaurants were closed during times it showed they were open and it never worked for room service. The pizza we got from room service was nothing more than a frozen box one that wasn't even cooked thoroughly. The lunch situation is horrible if you go near Guacamayas. We were there early and always had a wait of at least 45 minutes if we wanted a pizza or the Sandwicherie. They need more tables and servers. Do try the ice cream with Pecan pie. It was fabulous, yet we were only able to get vanilla once bc they didn't restock any. Odd. All buffets were left unstocked after food ran out. Go early if you want options or warm food. The whole place caters to their vacation club members or those willing to pay more for a Mexican dinner night or show on the beach. It's not AI for everything that is normally included at other AIs. The massages by the beach were nothing to rave about and the spa itself didn't have working showers to clean up after. The beach on the Palms side is lovely; as are the Bali beds, if you're willing to get up early to save one. All the pools are cold, including the balcony one on the top floor with no roof. No one was even in the lower floor balcony pools bc they were freezing. The sun was the saving grace on building 7, 6th floor. The food we ate was all good, minus the Italian restaurant. Be prepared to use salt / pepper or ask for more spices at all the restaurants, minus the Mexican, La Carreta. It had top notch flavors. Definitely go to Driftwood for lunch and their fresh seafood. I would prefer making reservations for every night to be able to eat when planned vs waiting for hours to be seated, unless you show up promptly at 530pm. Take a cab and go for a day trip in Playa del Carmen for shopping and skip the shops on property. The grounds are metic

Nice Hotel at the beach. Not a good beach, a lot of rocks. Quit place. Youtube have to take a taxi from the Hotel, fixed price 500 pesos to tulum. Its very expencive. A bottle of water in the restaurant was 200 pesos, crazy!! Nice service. Varm drinks in the minibar, ask for ice bucket.

First, some context. The author of this review had over 25 years of senior management experience in the resort industry, has stayed at hundreds of hotels in over 80 countries, and visited Mexico more than a dozen times. You drive around eight miles on a dirt road to get to O Tulum. This would not be a negative for us if the delightful description and pictures were real. They aren’t. The photos on the web site grossly misrepresent the units and pretty much everything else. The reserved unit (pool view) was so unacceptable we forfeited a nonrefundable night rather than stay in it. We did stay one night by paying extra for a honeymoon suite, which was pleasant but not a rave. The pool view unit on the second floor was a tiny, dark concrete box whose main view was a fence. The “honeymoon suite” was bright, overlooking the pool with ocean behind it. But it was run down in many areas and certainly not luxurious or worth the price. The beach in front of the property is rocky and not really swimmable or even very walkable. My only explanation for the many high reviews is that the staff, who were in fact quite nice, coached guests to rave. You can, I hope, do better.

This is quickly becoming our favorite resort! We went in October (you can read my review from then on here as well) and again in March and have already planned our third visit for this fall! We opted for a third story ocean view room this time (we had a private corner pool suite last time). We loved listening to the waves every night from our room and waking up to the sunrise every morning. The room was very similar to the last one we had. Very modern, marble bathroom etc but this room had a jetted soaking tub. We requested building 67 so we could be close to the infinity pool and Helios restaurant. From the moment you arrive you are treated like family. Israel, the bellboy captain, is always prepared with a warm welcome and Kevin at the front desk is always a wonderful familiar face to see! Alberto, Sergio and Romeo are amazing golf cart drivers! They always get you where you need to go with a smile and a warm greeting! They have become our friends and we look forward to seeing them again soon! All of the butlers are excellent as well. Rafael and Mariana took great care of us! If there is anything at all you need, don’t hesitate to ask your butler. The food and drinks here are excellent. There are top shelf options included such as crown royal, captain Morgan, grey goose etc. David, Jonathan and Mayra made sure our cups were never empty :) Daniel at La Jarra (trs only beach bar) was a treat! We enjoyed hanging out there with him. He works very hard keeping all the trs guests happy! Alfredo at La Terraza (the “quiet” pool) made us some special custom drinks that were amazing! We ate breakfast every day at Helios (capricho wasn’t open) and often times lunch as well. My husband even started making up breakfast sandwiches for himself lol and they made them for him every day! Martha and Wendy made breakfasts exceptional! They even brought us a sweet goodbye dessert plate :) Ivonne is an amazing hostess and has become someone that we feel is our friend and we look forward to seeing her again soon! Our favorite dinner spots are Tentazione and La Boheme. We like sitting in the special booth there! We tried Sumptuori (hibachi) this trip and enjoyed it as well. The evening entertainment here is the BEST that we’ve encountered since Covid restrictions affected the resorts. The chic show is running on a smaller scale and is in the terrace bar, full moon. The burlesque show is fabulous and should not be missed! We also enjoyed ****** night! Be prepared to make new friends here on a nightly basis! It’s so much fun! Make sure to check out Las Rocas, the salt water pool. Bring your snorkel gear and water shoes! We also enjoyed a round of putput golf at the activities center!
