The Laxmi Niwas Palace
"I returned to Bikaner for the second time, this time opting to stay in the Laxmi Niwas Palace which is part of the same building (originally the same palace) as the Lallgarh Palace, where I had stayed in 2015. I chose to return to Bikaner to explore its wonderful fort for the second time. The fort is astonishingly well preserved, never having been badly attacked, and features some extraordinarily beautiful paintings and decorations that have survived the centuries. After booking, I had some difficulty in contacting the hotel to make arrangements - such as transport etc. Close to the time of arrival, however, the hotel manager arranged a car to collect me from the airport and all went smoothly The palace is seeped in history and adorned with the royal family's collection of trophies, antiques and fascinating photographs. Dinner was very good both nights and I enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the hotel's atmospheric trophy bar. The grounds are well maintained - I enjoyed wandering around the gardens and swimming in the outdoor pool. My room was very well sized, though a little rustic. A movie shoot took place one evening but did not distract. I found time to wander around the Lallgarh Palace too, and to see the havelis and gates of the historic city centre. After thoroughly enjoying the fort I explored its adjacent museum which contained items relating to the hotel in its original intact formation as the complete Lallgarh Palace. Overall this was a pleasant stay and I would recommend the hotel. The staff were helpful."
