Holiday Inn Express Cardiff Bay

Butetown|0.94km from city center
Reception: The ladies at reception are very nice and welcoming, especially Sabina. Room / facilities: Room number 311 is on the 3rd floor and is clean with a water view. Oddly, they don’t make up a room daily, unless requested. This service has no additional cost. The 2 single beds are jointed to make a king bed, there is a small clothes hanging area, little bathroom, chair and desk, with tea and coffee facilities. There is no fridge in the room, but reception will keep a small amount of items in the hotel fridge. Self control air conditioning with a window that opens about 5 cm. Parking: Is shared between the Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge hotels, and can fit about 35 cars. Parking is £10 per night, and registration must be provided. Wifi: Complementary and good speed. No validation or password required. Breakfast: This was part of our room package. The traditional English buffet breakfast is from 7.00am to 11.00am and consists of cereals, yogurt, breads (to toast) jams and spreads, fresh fruits, pastries, eggs, bacon, baked beans, sausages, juices, tea and coffee. It was noticed that even at 9:00 am refills of milk, and food was slow to come. Conclusion: Great location, nice staff, comfortable bed. Letdowns: No fridge in the room, possibility of not getting car parking upon your return to the hotel. Location / Nearby: Cardiff Waterfront is a 10 minute walk, Cardiff City is a 15 min walk. Both walks are on flat ground and easy to do. Beware: No matter where you drive to, payment for parking is required. Most parking meters accept coin and card “tap” facilities. Generally after 6.00pm or 8.00pm parking is free, in designated locations. Getting to hotel: Best use GPS

Premier Inn Cardiff Bay

Butetown|0.27km from city center
The main problem with this hotel is the staff their attitude if you have a complaint or problem is oh they're just out for a freebie. Everything was too much trouble, the rooms were not up to the usual Premier Inn standards, the pillows we poor quality and filthy, which they begrudgingly changed, in our friends room the bedsheets had about 5 or six thick repair seams in it. the breakfast was its usual good quality, although the floors were filthy, and hadn't been cleaned since the evening service as there were slices of pepperoni pizza etc on the floor. We ordered food on our first evening, as we arrived late in the day, and having eaten in the Thyme restaurants many times we know the food is good, one of the party ordered a plain burger, as they dont like sauces etc, the food came with everything, when we asked that they replace, all we got was oh you csn just take it off, and walked away, we had to get the manager to sort it.Our room tv was well playing up, very slow to start and change channel, but the funniest bit was as we left on Sunday we couldn't turn it off. We were in Cardiff for the rugby 🏉 and have a long weekend break to recharge batteries. And celebrate 30th anniversary and birthdays. Although the service was bad n cleanliness left a lot to be desired it hasn't put us off Premier Inns, and the location of this one is ideal with large carpark facilities next door. Would probably use the new one in the centre in future though.

Novotel Cardiff Centre

Stayed in Novotel over weekend for our daughter's wedding in East One suite and the Warehouse. From the moment we checked in until the time we left it was an absolutely fantastic experience. All the staff went above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly, they were so welcoming and friendly and always very polite and smiling :) Nothing was too much trouble for anyone and all were very helpful. Thanks to Justin, Lit, Lily and Sabina for making breakfast time so easy, the breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice. The wedding breakfast on the day was absolutely delicious and so well presented, and the evening buffet was delicious and plentiful. Again, all the bar staff were so friendly and pleasant; it really was a pleasure going to the bar! :) Our room was clean and tidy, and cleaned every day. Hotel is convenient for city centre. The staff are definitely a credit to this hotel and make it what it is. Thanks to all the team for making our stay such a pleasant one. Would definitely stay at the Novotel again.
Staybridge Suites Cardiff

Disastrous first booking with trip.com! Travelled with my Daughter and her friend, arrived only to be told there was only a king size bed, room too small for the 3 of us. On booking, the search engine was defaulted to 2 adults, so this was amended accordingly. Thankfully there was a spare room.to accommodate at an additional cost of £30, oh and parking was £10! Not the budget stay I originally thought it to be. Please be careful. Accommodation top class, clean, fresh, beautiful with attention to detail.

The Coal Exchange Hotel
4.1/5103 Reviews
It was disappointing that our room contained zero information about the history of the hotel, or any information about the hotel at all. In fact, there is no information about the hotel in the public areas. Very odd because a good number of guests, like us, must come because of the history of the building. The management could take a leaf from the Telegraph Hotel in Coventry. Worst however was that there was no hot water in our room (237). We were told by reception to let the water run for 15 minutes! This only produced warm water and is incredibly wasteful for the environment. Worst of all was the black mould all round the bath. Really unforgivable. The jacuzzi bath was a bit odd in the context of a Victorian hotel. A proper shower and hot water should be the priority. In summary, having been looking forward to our stay, the Coal Exchange was a big disappointment.
