Travelodge Holyhead ★★★

"We’d been meaning to visit Holyhead for a while because of the lovely walks in the area. As we were only staying one night and travelling with our dog, Travelodge felt like the natural choice. We’ve stayed in a few of their hotels before (even prior to having a pet), and while they haven’t always been perfect, they’ve generally been decent enough. Unfortunately, this particular hotel felt quite different from our previous experiences. On arrival, there were people smoking right by the entrance, which didn’t create the most welcoming first impression. It also appeared that some may have been staff, as we later saw individuals entering through a staff door nearby. Check-in itself was pleasant, and the staff member we spoke to was friendly. However, the hotel overall feels like it could really benefit from some redecoration and updating. The bedroom was average at best and didn’t quite meet expectations. We didn’t have much further interaction with staff during our stay, so can’t comment beyond check-in. Sadly, based on this visit, it’s unlikely we would choose to stay at this particular hotel again."

"I am very grateful to this homestay because I missed the train, so it was already more than 9pm when I made the two transfers from Chester to Hollyhead, during which they emailed me and forgot to check on the train. The boss seems to be Indonesian, but very friendly, arranged a room for me, had to take a boat early in the morning, so it was not their breakfast time, he brought me milk, all kinds of cereals, juice, fruit. . . When the snacks, just put the keys in the room when you leave. For me, it is snow to send charcoal, if you want to spend the night in Hollyhead, you can go to their home, this town is not big, there are some small shops in the town center to solve the problem of food and clothing, the town house is quite distinctive."

"Easy check-in. Lots of parking spaces. Close to the beach. Good location. We had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. The mains were good value and delicious. The fried calamari was disappointing in size and not worth the price. Hotel room was clean with one single and one double bed. Our room was located on the second floor. There is no lift but it was fine for us. Good water pressure and shower was good. The fan/air oscillator in the room had to be used otherwise the room feels warm, but the sound is quite loud when it is in operation. Overall, pleasant stay for a short two nights."

The Bull Hotel ★★★

"A first time choosing from the “Italian” menu, launched recently. We’ve always enjoyed sitting in the beer garden as a lovely atmosphere and visited last week to find it busy and vibrant. The Bull has picked up The Valleys regulars due to a more inviting atmosphere, more relaxed . and you can easily find your way into the pub unlike The Valley pub where you have to navigate around the outside of the pub to find the entrance. The Valley bar staff are always welcoming and the stars of The Valley pub. We ordered a mezze of tapas as a light dinner. We have been to many Spanish restaurants, and enjoyed tapas in the UK and in Spain. Whether a Spanish restaurant, a UK pub/ restaurant, we have enjoyed a variety of tapas. The calamari sticks were fine, but as strips rather than in rings. The bruschetta should be: classic tomato bruschetta, dice 1.5 pounds of ripe tomatoes, remove the watery seeds, and toss them with 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil, 1 minced garlic clove, fresh basil ribbons, and salt. Let it marinate, then spoon it over grilled or toasted bread rubbed with raw garlic. The sautéed prawns lacked an oomph of garlic, and the fingers of bread should have been toasted. Plenty of bread, not toasted, in a basket and accompanying the tapas. No need for the salad decorating the tapas. Very friendly, polite staff and served our tapas with a smile and friendliness. Such a shame to see Pinocchios restaurant area empty and only two tables full in the bar area, eating from the Italian menu. I wish The Bull well and Pinocchios restaurant, as it has a lovely atmosphere and great staff and landlord."
