I booked this hotel as I have not stayed here previously and wanted to try it out. The GM Jeff checked us in and noted that we have been upgraded in our room, though it appeared to be in the room I booked online. He told us that to get to our room, we should go outside to the parking garage elevators, go to the fourth floor, cross over to other elevators to get to the sixth floor where our room was located. We were surprised by this, and soon realized that if we just take the elevator right by our room straight down, we were at the elevators right next to the lobby, where we were checked in. Why we were given these bizarre directions, we have no idea. When going to bed, we noticed that there was dried blood on one of the pillowcases, along with an old stain on the comforter. We got rid of those and called the front desk to let them know about this. In their embarrassment, they comped us one night. The concierge service was OK but on the day of discharge after texting in the morning about extending the checkout time, I texted about getting help for getting our bags to our car and never got a response, so I contacted the front desk myself. A disappointing and gross experience and not really sure this hotel is worth the value that is placed on it. No idea why the GM gave these odd directions; is it so we don’t come back again?

Westin is yet another business masking a massive decrease in service behind “pandemic safety.” The hotel itself is nice. Beds are new and comfortable, rooms are spacious, and the fitness room is well appointed. It’s the only hotel I’ve stayed in recently that had a comfortable HVAC system. The fan can be set to stay on, so the air remains fresh when heating/cooling aren’t running which helped me sleep. Rooms have a mini-fridge and a lovely big TV. However, I stayed six nights and my room was only visited by housekeeping once. They didn’t even bother to restock the in-room coffee, provide more shampoo, or refresh towels. I had to stop at the front desk. This was ostensibly for pandemic safety but I wasn’t in my room so any risk from simply replenishing supplies was purely imaginary. The hotel restaurant is only open for breakfast and the rest of the day service is only in the bar. The bar was somewhat understaffed and waits for drinks got lengthy in the evening. Coffee was only available in the morning. All of this is fine at AirBnB rates, but Westin is still charging as if they are a four-star hotel. What am I paying for if there is so little service? I also can’t recommend anyone book a conference here. I was attending a hobby conference where we were paying out of pocket. Westin didn’t provide any signage and allowed a ravenous horde of people from a professional conference to descend on our limited snacks. They messed up an expensive Friday dessert event by running out of food. Rooms were shifted around on short notice and some of our classes were crammed into a tiny, stuffy, room for six hours. To add insult to injury on Saturday night the hotel hosted a frat party and drunk kids roamed the halls singing loudly, laughing, and banging on doors until 3 AM. Westin didn’t have enough staff to keep these unruly guests under control. I am unlikely to stay here again without asking a LOT of questions in advance and frankly Marriott should be ashamed.

Kansas City has some crazy weather. One day it’s Sunnyside up next day it’s raining cats and dogs. All in all it was a great weekend. There are many many bars and restaurants in walking distance or the tram in the back of the hotel is free, which is a big plus. Didn’t really like that valet parking wasn’t included or that there is no option for self parking. So the only choice you have is to valet park unless you want your car unattended. I will say, the valet is worth it 100%. Those people are rockstars at their job. Shaleua was the one to help us out. This young lady so kindhearted and patient with us she explained to us that valet parking was the best option. (Even though we didn’t want to pay $32.

The check in was very good, an agent with a spontaneous smile assigned us a very quiet room with a beautiful view. An Art Deco masterpiece in the heart of downtown, the Hotel Phillips is a popular choice with guests who appreciate the charm and character of a grand and historic hotel. The hotel's address was once occupied by a haberdashery operated by President Harry S. Truman and his brother. Today, the hotel's top floor suite is named in his honor. Built in the 1930's, this 20-story luxury hotel, a national landmark, continues to exude all the elegance of the period with modern amenities. Many of the original details remain, including the walnut paneling, intricate metalwork, 20-story mail chute, Art Deco light fixtures and a gilded winged statue of the goddess Dawn. The 216 rooms are cozy, characteristic of a historic hotel, and comfortable, with modern amenities such as complimentary WiFi, multiple charging outlets, flat screen TVs, plump duvets, high-end linens, C.O Bigelow bath products and Keurig coffee. The hotel's highly celebrated restaurant, Tavernonna Italian Kitchen, serves chef driven breakfast and dinner menus and happy hour, Sneak down to the 1930's inspired speakeasy bar, P.S., through the hidden entrance near the front desk for craft cocktails and small bites. Additional amenities include a business center, room service, a 24-hour gym, massages available by appointment, and event space rental available by reservation with the sales team. Valet parking is available for a fee. Right in the middle of downtown, Hotel Phillips is one block from the Power & Light District, eight lively blocks of restaurants, nightclubs and theaters, one block from the city's streetcar, and six blocks from the Sprint Center, ranked third in the US among sports arenas. The airport is 19 miles away. More than just a hotel, the Hotel Phillips is an experience, a step back in time to a more gracious era. Everyone deserves that experience, if only for a night.

I was close to changing hotels prior to staying based on poor reviews, but decided because of the location we could deal with any issues that may have been unsatisfactory. Good thing we kept our reservations here as their wasn't anything unsatisfactory about the trip. The front desk team was very nice and quick to get more towels or anything needed. The Shower was amazing which consistently stayed hot and high water pressure for 4 of us to use back to back. The location is very convenient to all of the downtown activities. They have a shuffleboard table in the lobby that we played often. We went to the PS Speakeasy in the basement of the hotel that was nice. The Restaurant located on site was easy to get drinks at. Valet parking is $30-$35, but we self parked at the garage next door for $18 and easy to get to. The only comment I would make is I wish they had a pantry as we had $30 F&B credit per day, but did not get to use a days worth based on our flight schedule, it would have been nice to use it.

Parking in the underground parking lot is very convenient. Talk to the front desk when you check out. There is no charge when you leave the garage. The hotel lobby is not bad, the rooms are relatively old, but the hotels in the central cities of the United States are almost not old. The room was quite large, the air conditioning was very noisy, and when it didn't stop, the cold wind was blown for a while and the hot wind was blown for a while. I booked a room with breakfast, but at the end of the day breakfast was still charged separately, and I was drunk. The quality of reception staff at the reception varies, and there are a few female receptionists who come here for a while, business operations are unskilled, and their attitudes are very general.

Pros: New property, friendly staff, comfortable and quiet guest rooms, no problems to speak of. Cons: Immediate area doesn't have much to offer in the way of shopping and restaurants. In any year I spend upwards of 120 nights in hotels so for me to find one that doesn't stress me in any way is difficult. I am happy to say my stay at this new Holiday inn property didn't cause me any headaches or stress. It was easy and effortless from check-in to check-out. My room was spacious and included both a work desk and chair/table so I didn't have to watch TV while lying in bed in a weird position. The shower had decent water pressure, I didn't hear any guests in adjacent rooms, and I didn't have to hack the thermostat to get the room to a comfortably cool temperature. There was always parking available not too far from the door, every front desk employee was friendly, and the ice water in the lobby was always full- and welcome because of the warm weather. Although no fault of the hotel, the immediate area doesn't have much to offer aside from the Worlds of Fun theme park. There is a Wendy's, Burger King, Waffle House, Taco Bell, and QuikTrip convenience store/gas station, but nothing in the way of sit-down restaurants, grocery stores, and other kinds of retail. For that, a short drive is required in either direction. This is one of the rare hotels for which I would not hesitate returning to for another stay. There is definite value in stress-less experiences.

GGuest UserWe were so surprised! Very nice hotel, nicer than higher class brands we have stayed at lately! CLEAN, updated, good breakfast. CLOSE to Arena, convenience wins it out. Rooms were dark, bed not the most comfortable (but clean is what matters!), not much for seating. One desk chair, otherwise just the beds, small window but overall highly recommend! Staff very nice. I would recommend to the company, a luggage holder for the room. Yes there was a large closet, and a long counter/bench to set your luggage on, however there was nothing by the bathroom. We were traveling with our kids, so I had to keep my bag in the middle of the room, after getting out of the shower I had to walk into the room to get all my stuff. I thought if only I had something to put my luggage on right outside the bathroom. None of these ”complaints” would warrant losing a start though.

GGuest UserVery satisfied with the stay, the hotel has just been renovated, about 5-10 minutes walk from the union station, turn left from the station gate and turn left, you can see it from afar, very conspicuous. The front desk is on the 2nd floor. If the night arrives too late, you need to press the intercom outside the main entrance of the 1st floor to let the front desk open. A few front desks are very welcoming, not a super metropolis hotel is not the same. Breakfast is similar to other hotels, that is, many things need to be heated by themselves, which is very interesting. There is also a canteen at the front desk, and snacks are big. My room is equipped with a microwave and a large fridge. The windows in the room need to be opened before the main power switch of the door is opened. When I left, let the front desk help me find the rental, and the rental fee was reasonable, very good.

GGuest UserThis hotel is not high on the traveler ranked list in Kansas City, but I was hoping that since it is a Hampton that we would find good accommodations. They weren't terrible, mind you, but so many things could be better! We didn't meet a single pleasant person working at the front desk and as is typical of most hotels today, they need to clean better. The breakfast provisions ran out fairly quickly and many things were not replenished. What was there early on was a typical Hampton breakfast, but adequate. Parking is $18/day and while the lot seems ok, you have to walk down the alley and across the street to get to it from the hotel. The best part of the hotel, in my opinion, is its location on the streetcar. It's a short trip to Union Station and Crown Center.

GGuest UserI’ve now stayed at almost every 21C hotel (I haven’t been to Iowa). Gets an overall five stars with some stronger points and some weaker points. Strong: the artwork this time around was poignant, the thought provoking, and cohesive. The restaurant and restaurant staff were outstanding (The Savoy, reviewed separately). Their room service was awesome too. The beds at 21C have always been comfy and I like their toiletry products. Weaker: The front desk staff was a mixed bag. Generally helpful and nice, but I was received more coolly here than some other places. Housekeeping. I 1000% understand we are still struggling with COVID and the economy and labor issues. And I don’t know who had my room previously, but there were several small shards of glass in the seating area, there was a pair of underwear behind the couch (which I didn’t touch and left there), and I somehow found a pair of dried up old contact lenses on the bedspread. Please note, the room was generally clean and well appointed, but the three things I mentioned were pretty big things. Also, if we aren’t going to go back to having minibars (which I’m fine with), can we have mini fridges in the rooms? I get you’re trying to up-sell room service, but I would just like to be able to chill my water or have something cool to drink without asking for a (too small) bucket of ice. Would stay again. The positive far outweighs the negative. Tip: no valet parking, but there is a garage across the street that charges 10 bucks a night.

GGuest UserOverall the experience at the hotel was very good, however, check in was lengthy and I had another issue at checkout I'll explain later. There was only one lady at the front managing to check in a long line of people. I can only imagine that they are still short staffed after Covid times. I had checked in 24 hours prior and chosen a room on my phone app, but our room was not ready and was given another. No problem..just glad to get one after the wait. The lady was pleasant checking us in but never apologized for the wait or welcomed us as Diamond members. Room was small but overall clean. Would have liked to have a comfortable chair to sit in but not one in the room. Breakfast was a buffet and overall average/good. Now the part not so good...apparently Hilton is now giving credits for breakfasts for (Gold & Diamond levels). It's put into your account to be used to offset the amount you spent. The amount can be different depending on the hotel. In most cases you will end of paying more due to taxes. I find this offensive and in my case the bookkeeping got messed up and it ended up being added in rather than taken out. I had to end up calling the hotel on two occasions to get it worked out...but it did happen. I appreciated the help of JoAnn and Robert and the bookkeeping department. In addition when checking out, I received my statement, it only showed parking that was owed. I was assured that the breakfast & credits were already sorted out. That was not the case as I found out a day later. Because Hilton President did handle my situation quickly I gave a very good rating!

GGuest UserStayed here recently for a conference; requested and received Suite Night Upgrade to the Presidental Suite! WOW! Now, the hotel and surrounding area had been without power for the previous 22 hr and just regained it a few hours before I arrived. Suite was def warm- and I thought it was because of the power outage. Tried to turn up the fan which didn't change a thing. (in fact, I turned all 3 thermostats I found in there down to 60 and high fan and it never changed over 4 days! So- this suite is on the 38th floor and spans the width of the building so different views of the city from LR/DR and BR. Large 4 poster bed-- but there is a 4 inch ”ledge” around the mattress which is waist high to me (at 5-6”) making it extremely difficult to get into! Then discovered the bedside table and lamp was too far away to reach from bed...3 of the 4 pillows were incredibly lumpy- glad I only needed one pillow! Flat sheet on the bottom which wasn't long enough to be tucked in on top or side so it looked like a war had occurred in the morning (oh- and 2 comforters on the bed but don't know if it ever got cooler than 75 or so!). HUGE bathroom- big double size tub (but the row of lights over it had 3/4 of bulbs out), big steam shower with fabulous water pressure (but mildew on ceiling and amongst the marble tile), large bottles of fancy products in the shower (that could not be opened for those of you worried about that-I'm not, but see lots of angst about this). Several spots in teh BR had mildew, and lightening wasn't great for makeup. LR has 2 love seat sized couches (found some sort of canisters in between the seat cushions- ew!) large desk, table for 8 on the DR side plus a full kitchen (but a dirty black plastic serving spoon was on the stovetop!). Lots of nice artwork throughout. Carpet was stained in many areas. Never saw a TV remote though TVs were in the bedroom, bathroom and LR (didn't look real hard in LR, wasn't watching TV anyway, but thought it was odd). Housekeeping did come in after 2nd night, remade the bed with the same (wrinkled) sheets. Conference rooms were pretty darn cold. Oh, and did tell front desk that the AC wasn't working, but nothing changed. (Heard someone else on 38th floor complaining too). Lounge hours are limited- never made it there. Did have a bite to eat in the restaurant bar one evening- def not worth the calories or $. Unfortunately not much around open after 5 or 6, esp on a Sunday evening. Lobby is gorgeous, lots of seating in many areas incl tables with outlets for working.

GGuest UserThis was indeed a Comfort Inn. It gave me some comfort, and the carpet had an interesting low-budget business-traveler vibe. Reader, it was a Comfort Inn.
