"The resort was our first stop while island hopping around Koh Chang. The complex was beautifully laid out, but the management unfortunately did not manage to keep the complex in good condition, neither in the bungalows nor in the restaurant/bar area nor in the entrance area, which looked more like a junkyard. Only the garden looked well maintained. Everyone can then judge this in detail for themselves. Another no-go in our opinion was that the beach towels were also given out as shower towels (smelled really musty). The staff were friendly, the receptionist organized our transfer to Ko Kood. We were able to come to terms with the circumstances for the four nights. The speedboat from the mainland (Krum Luang Pier, departure 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) stops at the hotel's own pier, so there are no further transfers on the island. Many good restaurants are within walking distance. The stay was fine for us, if we visit the island again we will choose another resort. This review is not based on a lack of knowledge of Asia and/or false expectations of the hotel. We also looked at the reviews in advance. Of course you can/have to turn a blind eye here and there in Asia, but you don't have to look at everything through rose-colored Asian glasses, after all, you have to pay for your stay. Note: We had already heard about the sand flies on the beaches in advance, and the hotel had also pointed this out, so we used the loungers on the lawn in the garden, which was also very nice, unfortunately, like almost all of the hotel guests, we were also stabbed there by the beasts. We had already brought various ointments with us from Germany, and a friendly local pharmacist helped us with an ointment (Fucidin H and an anti-allergic Loratadine)."

"We came here during the day to grab a drink and relax by the pool. The great thing about this place is that you can join the clubs and hotels, and even if you just have a drink, you can use the pool and its amenities all day. The infinity pool is beautiful, and the facilities are very nice and refined. A classy place, highly recommended."

"WARNING THIS IS A FULLMOON PARTY PLACE AND BEACH, This is probably the most difficult review I ever written, because Koh Mak resort is worth at least three stars. Why do I just rate it one? We spent five night after Christmas here. Three nights and days was totally destroyed because of Full moon party’s with really really strong music on the beach until 06,00 in the morning. Those were held at our hotel and neighbourhood resorts. In my opinion the hotel owners choose easy and fast cash when agreed to let them have the party at their places before taken care of guests like family’s and elderly that can afford this hotels in the long run. Our hotel solved it by giving us back money for three nights. But still my vacation was ruined and me and along several more guest will never go back. JUNKIE ISLAND All over the island we meet stoned people, junkies and drunken youth that visited full moon party night time. On the beach there were so mutch litter and even needels. So I think Koh Maak hotel owners are up to desied what kind of destination they would like to be. SO THIS IS A WARNING, ask before you make a reservation at Koh Mak resort and other resorts. Koh Mak resort it self is in many ways good. It’s located beautiful and the staff especially front desk manager and the two men there were great. Hotels restaurant ain’t that good, messy and not any cosy at all. Chose others. The small cafe is nice! The same family runs the neighbourhood resort Sevana. It’s fantastic!!! Cool restaurant, super friendly staff and great food. Thanks for a fantastic new year’s dinner."

"The hotel is very isolated, with no restaurants or shops nearby, forcing you to eat all your meals at the hotel restaurant, unless you rent a scooter for the duration of your stay. The staff is attentive and quite helpful. The beach is dirty, the sand is earthy, with lots of rubbish and debris strewn across the ground. The sea is not pleasant, with numerous banks of land, rubbish, and very little depth making swimming very unpleasant. The rooms are spacious, but there is no furniture or storage cupboard, not even a rod or rack to hang hangers on. There is just a coat rack. So you are forced to leave your clothes in your suitcase or backpack. This is a really big problem when you stay there, like we did for a week, and of course there is no safe in the room. The sink area of the bathroom is not lit, and there is just a small mirror placed behind the sink, forcing you to do gymnastics to see your face. On the other hand, there is a large bathtub in the entrance which is completely useless. In the bedroom there is no curtain to hide the upper windows, as a result you are woken up by the daylight every morning from 6 a.m. The restaurant offers dishes at quite high prices. The dishes are quite generous, but rather greasy and salty and are really nothing exceptional. Breakfast is served at the table and must be ordered the day before, it is quite generous, but pastries and espresso are extra. The island of Koh Mak is very small (about 5 km x 7 km). There are only two sandy beaches where you can swim about 6 km from the hotel, it is around one of them that shops, hotels and restaurants are grouped. Unfortunately, there's almost no dry sand due to rising water levels. Despite regular cleaning of these two beaches by an association, there's still a lot of trash washed in by the tides. Trusting the positive reviews of the hotel and the island of Koh Mak, we wasted a week in a hotel and an island that had absolutely no interest."

Mira Montra Resort Koh Mak ★★★★
"We had a room in the furthest bungalow, on the second floor, with an amazing sea view. The room itself was very cozy. The view was "a million-dollar view"! High ceilings. In the room, there were large umbrellas (which perfectly protected us even from the scorching sun), flip-flops, and comfortable kimono-style robes. The bed had a soft mattress, pillows, and a duvet. It was very comfortable to sleep. The air conditioning was modern, cooled excellently, and without interruptions. We were surprised by the absence of glass cups. At first glance, the breakfasts seemed meager, but in reality, everything and even a little bit more was plentiful. And from 3 PM to 5 PM, there was "tea time" with free tea, coffee, sweet snacks, and egg sandwiches. The entrance to the sea is very shallow. During low tide, you have to walk quite a distance. It's advisable to wear appropriate footwear, as there are often sharp corals or shell rock on the seabed. A little further out, there are also a large number of sea urchins. Overall, we liked everything. Thanks to the friendly staff and the magical island for my vivid impressions!"

"The hotel is new, but the rooms are very small. We had one with a balcony facing the road, which wasn't great – even though the island isn't heavily populated, sleeping with the window open was impossible. The beach is right across from the hotel, literally 50 meters to the water. However, the beach is all rocky, and there are hardly any good swimming spots. I definitely don't recommend coming to this island for the water and sand. If you're looking for peace and quiet, then yes, but everything else is below par."

"We spent a week at a delightful hotel on a magical island! The charming sea-view bungalows are arranged on terraces, and the hotel grounds exude comfort and care for guests. They are clean, beautiful, and very comfortable, with picturesque paths and staircases between the terrace levels. We were greeted very warmly at the hotel (sweet and cheerful Vee, thank you so much!), and were shown around and told about the hotel, then they were attentive and helpful in resolving any questions we had. And most importantly (!) were the thoughtful and varied breakfasts, which lifted our spirits in the morning 😁, and the fresh, aromatic, hot dishes for lunch and dinner. Incredibly delicious, prepared with love. We even received special requests for items not on the menu! Dear, magical Jane, the restaurant owner, I am so grateful for your approach to guests and for every dinner we had! I will miss you and will definitely be back!"

The Mak Trat ★★★★
"The resort has a stunning outlook onto the sea, great, but small pool, great rooms, some with roof terraces & is very relaxed. The restaurant's food is superbly presented, however unfortunately, the service is poor and let it down. Both times we dined there we had to go and find our own menus, noone brought them to us. The food took a long time to come and, though it was well-presented, some of it was cold. They forgot my wife's main dish and despite enquiring about it twice with a waitress who didn't seem to speak English and just giggled and walked off, it never arrived. This was really disappointing and marred our stay which would have otherwise been very relaxing. After we complain they did eventually apologise and discounted out bill by one dish but it wasn't great. The resort can arrange golf buggy hire for you to tour the island for 800 THB for 5 hours (that and 10 hours only options - no shorter time) which is worth doing. Also nice to walk out on the sand when the tide goes all the way out"

"“Beautiful beach” Ideal location on the most beautiful beach on the island. Breakfast was nothing special. We had a family bungalow; the beds were extremely uncomfortable, and there was a strong musty smell. The water bottles were never cold because the fridge shuts off when the room's electricity is turned off…"

Little Moon Villa ★★
"We were really looking forward to Little Moon Villas based on its online presence, but the reality on site was disappointing. For a price of almost $200 USD per night, one expects a certain level of quality and hospitality – both of which were sorely lacking here. The accommodation: Poor design and maintenance issues. The villas are marketed as "beachfront," which is simply misleading. The beach is over 100 meters away. The bungalows themselves are large, but completely illogical in their design: No weather protection: The terrace has no roof, so you have to flee indoors immediately in the strong Thai sun or at the slightest rain shower. Air conditioning: It hangs in the bedroom directly above the bed (unpleasant draft), while the bathroom isn't air-conditioned at all. Condition: The complex appears neglected. The paint is peeling in many places, and ants are coming out of the drainpipes. Cleanliness and service: The hygiene left much to be desired. Clumps of hair were left in the shower for days. Even more disappointing was the service: The staff (with the exception of one young Cambodian woman) are extremely taciturn. A simple "Good morning" seems to be too much to ask. The owners spend almost all their time behind the counter and avoid contact with the guests. Anyone working in the hotel industry should master the most basic customs of hospitality. Location and surroundings: The location is anything but attractive. The beach here is not nice. To get around, you have to rent a scooter. The return trip at night is in complete darkness on unlit roads. Particularly bothersome: The neighbor's aggressive dogs, which sometimes keep you awake for hours with their howling. The only positive: The restaurant's cuisine is commendable. The selection is good and the food is good, even if you have to be a bit patient (slow food?). Conclusion: In this price range, there are significantly better options on Ko Mak that impress with both location and service. The Little Moon Villas offer disproportionate value for money. Not recommended."
