I really wanted to like this hotel. I really tried to like this hotel. Unfortunately, after our family’s 5-night stay, we were left disappointed and most likely will not return or recommend. We stayed in two rooms - a superior king (room 407) and a regular king (room 403). I will get into the details in a little bit. But here are the highlights and lowlights. Highlights - Great location. The hotel is right by Retiro park. It’s like the upper east side of nyc. We walked to all the museums, visited the park everyday and taking a cab to centro was easy. - the building is beautiful. Landmarked and recently renovated. There are so many fine details in the exterior of the building and the common areas. - the majority of the staff was friendly and helpful. Special shoutout to the porters and the housekeeping staff. They really go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. Lowlights - Rooms are subpar. Our rooms were on the 4th floor which is the top floor. The top floor in this type of buildings are designed to be servants quarters. So the ceiling is low and windows are small. You do feel like you are in the servants quarter and I personally do not like paying $500+ per night to not feel like the main character. - Superior King room feels smaller than regular King. We had two rooms - one superior king and one regular. The superior king feels smaller. If you plan to pay extra to get a bigger room, I would get the junior suites. The superior kings are not worth it. - the Bed in Room 403 (regular king) is supposed to be a king bed. However, it is two twin mattresses pushed together with a king mattress cover over it and they claimed it king. The front desk did offer us a different room but we had already unpacked and spent a night so my parents didn’t want to go through the hassle of switching rooms. The Supervisor there (Marcos) did comp us with free breakfast for that room but I don’t think he understands the inconvenience it caused us nor the disappointment we had. What bothers me the most was that they tried to justify it was normal and okay to have a king bed made up by two separate twin mattresses. Marcos and the lady at the front desk tried to say because there was a king mattress COVER over the two mattresses, it was okay, it made the bed a king. What a joke. They made me feel like my complaint was trivial and my experience was not valued. - Strong paint odor from the renovation. I am sensitive to smell and room 407 had very strong paint odor upon entering. We had to keep the windows open during our entire stay there. The front desk did offer us a different room when I brought the issue to them. However, the room they offered me (room 309) also had similarly strong paint smell so we didn’t end up taking it. Room 403 was fine. - The towels feel “tired” - it’s the feel that they are laundered so many times that they become stiff and thin. Again, not something you would expect at a 5 start hotel. - the bathtub didn’

Great property, great staff, and great location. First let me mention a few of the staff that were very helpful ( and I apologize for leaving out a few that I can’t remember) Guillermo Marcos, David, Elba, and Juanlu. The staff offers all the assistance you need. Being a small hotel these front desk people perform all the tasks for their customers. We had breakfast each day and the food was excellent as was the staff. Our room was very clean and quiet for sleeping. Being cross the street from a park (Retiro) helps with less noise. The location is convenient to many city highlights. The bar is nice in the. Lobby area.

This historic hotel nestled in the upmarket Retiro district is absolutely stunning. From our welcome at the desk - particular thanks to Rodrigo, who went out of his way to create a tailor made visit for us - to the beautiful, immaculately restored interiors, we shall definitely be back. The newly created bar area is a real bonus; they serve delicious tapas and a very extensive range of drinks. We enjoyed a flamenco evening and all the main sights and attractions are within walking distance. This is a luxury hotel that has mastered the art of making its guests feel at home.

My wife and I chose to stay here during our honeymoon in late September and it exceeded our expectations. The staff were some of the nicest hotel staff we've ever encountered. Shout out to JuanLu who was AMAZING. He gave us advice on where to go in the city and was just so lovely with it being our honeymoon. The decor in that building was amazing to see. The stained glass spiral staircase, the cute room decor, the views of Retiro Park. Located in a nice area, walkable to lots of sites, and again, the staff there was what made our stay so great. We will definitely be staying here the next time we're in Madrid. Highly recommend it for any couples looking for a romantic, relaxing, elegant place to stay in the city. Thank you for the hospitality!!! -Tony & Irma :)

Beautiful updated hotel across from excellent park. Modern rooms and comfortable bed. Bathrooms nicely appointed and newly renovated. Breakfast in common room was terrific . Property overall is great value.park across the street makes up for lack of outdoor space at the hotel.

This hotel is beautiful and located ver centrally for seeing sights and experiencing Madrid. It's a Marriott affiliated hotel which is nice if you are a loyal customer. The breakfast is lovely and the staff is fantastic. This is a historic property so the hotel has been worked into this building in a really seamless way. We had a small balcony that let us look over Retiro Park across the street. You are steps away from the Prado museum and wonderful restaurants. We loved our time at this hotel.

This is an exceptional hotel, with excellent staff. The rooms are beautiful, beautifully designed to highlight the historic architecture while providing every modern amenity, impeccably detailed, cleaned and maintained. Our room faced an inner courtyard (instead of the Retiro Park across the street) but we enjoyed that because we could view this lovely building’s architecture - the courtyard isn’t a back alley where garbage etc is held, it’s above the spa space. Wonderful food in the restaurant. BUT the highlight for our stay was the warmth and kindness of the staff. We were two friends traveling back from the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain, and were arriving separately - and my friend was arriving before me (I made the reservation). My friend was nervous arriving before me (we were scruffy, with backpacks) but the staff could not have been kinder or more welcoming - I asked if they could let my friend into the room before my arrival and they were able to do so. They were v kind to my nervous friend and he felt fully at home. Will return to Palacio de Retiro whenever possible and look forward to speaking with all the staff who take such pride in their beautiful hotel, and warm professional care of their guests.
