Best time to visit Greece

Planning a trip to Greece? For many, it's undoubtedly a paradise that boasts gorgeous beaches, ancient ruins, and mouthwatering cuisine. But when is the best time to go? That depends on what you’re looking for—perfect weather, cristal clear sea water, or a lively holiday vibe. Let’s dive deeper into everything you need to know about the palce, so we can make the most of your Greek adventure.

Best Weather to Visit Greece

Greece’s Mediterranean climate means there’s no bad time to visit! But certain seasons have their own distinctive charm. Let’s take a closer look at how each season presents itself:

Spring (April to June)

Spring in Greece feels like stepping into a postcard. The landscape bursts with vibrant wildflowers, the weather is mild, and the crowds are manageable. Temperatures hover between 60°F and 75°F, making it the ideal time to explore historical sites and enjoy outdoor activities without breaking a sweat.

If you’re in Athens, spring is the perfect season to explore the Acropolis and meander through the charming Plaka district. Stop for a coffee at a kafeneio, where you can soak in the atmosphere. Further afield, Delphi is surrounded by lush greenery, offering a serene backdrop for uncovering its mystical oracle site. In the Peloponnese region, vibrant fields of wildflowers add an extra layer of beauty to ancient wonders like Mycenae and Epidaurus.

Foodies will adore spring in Greece, too. Treat yourself to succulent spring lamb roasted with herbs, salads bursting with fresh artichokes and wild greens, and galaktoboureko, a luscious custard-filled dessert.

Summer (July to August)

Summer is Greece’s peak tourist season, and for good reason. With long sunny days and temperatures ranging from the 80s to 90s°F, it’s the ultimate beach season. That said, it’s also the busiest time of year, so early bookings are essential.

Head to Mykonos for its iconic party scene. Spend your days lounging on beaches like Psarou and Paradise Beach, and your nights dancing at some of the world’s top clubs. If relaxation is more your style, Santorini beckons with its breathtaking sunsets at Oia and its volcanic beaches like Red Beach. Don’t miss a wine-tasting tour at a local vineyard to savor unique volcanic wines.

Best time to visit Greece | Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach

Crete is another summer hotspot. Visit Balos Lagoon, where turquoise waters meet pink-hued sands, or Elafonissi Beach, a true paradise for sun-seekers. Adventurers will love hiking the dramatic Samaria Gorge, ending their trek with a refreshing swim in the Libyan Sea. Satisfy your taste buds with grilled octopus, dakos salad, and creamy frozen yogurt topped with honey and nuts.

Fall (September to October)

Fall might just be the best-kept secret of Greece. The weather remains warm, averaging between 70°F and 80°F, while the summer crowds have thinned out. It’s also grape harvest season, so wine lovers are in for a treat.

Rhodes shines in autumn. Wander through its medieval Old Town, explore the Palace of the Grand Master, or take a boat trip to nearby islands. Nafplio offers charming streets lined with bougainvillea, local tavernas serving hearty meals, and a hike up to Palamidi Fortress for sweeping views.

Milos, known for its surreal Sarakiniko Beach, is a photographer’s dream. Fall is also a great time to enjoy quiet beaches and delicious local cuisine. Sample freshly harvested grapes, figs, and spanakopita, a savory spinach pie that’s perfect for a quick snack.

Winter (November to March)

Think Greece isn’t a winter destination? Think again. While the islands quiet down, cities like Athens and Thessaloniki come alive with local charm. Daytime temperatures range from 40°F to 60°F, offering a cozy and authentic experience.

Athens in winter is perfect for museum hopping. Visit the National Archaeological Museum or the Benaki Museum to delve into Greece’s rich history. Kolonaki, a chic neighborhood, is great for boutique shopping and cozy cafés.

Best time to visit Greece | National Archaeological Museum
National Archaeological Museum: a must-see destination for anyone interested in ancient Greek art and history. The museum houses an extensive collection of archaeological finds, including stunning sculptures, pottery, and jewelry, as well as historical artifacts from the Bronze Age to the Ancient Roman period.

For a snowy escape, head to Zagorohoria in the Epirus region. These picturesque villages are perfect for hiking and enjoying the serene, snowy landscapes. Ski enthusiasts can hit the slopes at Kalavryta. Warm up with avgolemono soup, a comforting chicken and lemon dish, or stifado, a hearty beef and onion stew. Don’t forget to try loukoumades, syrupy Greek doughnuts that will sweeten any chilly day.

Best Time to Visit Popular Attractions in Greece

The Acropolis, Athens

Spring and fall are ideal for exploring the Acropolis without the crowds or scorching heat. The Parthenon, dedicated to Athena, is awe-inspiring, while the Erechtheion’s Caryatids captivate visitors with their elegance. For panoramic views of Athens, climb Areopagus Hill. After your visit, head to the Monastiraki Flea Market to browse for souvenirs or enjoy dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the illuminated Acropolis.

Best time to visit Greece | Monastiraki Flea Market
Monastiraki Flea Market: The original intention of a flea market is to set up stalls to sell daily necessities that you don't need, but the Monastiraki flea market is more for tourists. Entering from an alley in Monastiraki Square, the first thing you see is a variety of clothing and handicrafts. You will see some stalls selling mostly Greek daily necessities.

The 8th and 9th floors of the hotel, as well as the rooftop breakfast area (which is also the top floor), offer direct views of the Parthenon. Plus, the infinity pool on the rooftop is perfect for photos! Probably because there are so many guests (and many rooms), after calling the front desk, service takes a long time to arrive (sometimes I even had to directly ask a housekeeper in the hallway for what I needed). The room facilities are quite old. Around noon, the front desk gets swamped with guests checking out. On another note, the hotel offers a free shuttle service to the old town every hour on the dot.

We got the junior suite for our family of 4. The room was quite spacious and the kids loved the jacuzzi bathtub. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Service was excellent. Location was also great with the subway just outside. The view of Athens from the rooftop was also awesome… a great way to end our stay at Athens being able to see all the places we visited. The only issue I had was with the parking. While the hotel has parking, lots are limited and was full when we arrived. I had to find street parking. The first night, I was lucky and found one quite quickly and only about 6mins walk from the hotel. The second night, I took close to an hour to find parking. There was paid 24hr parking across the street but they couldn’t accommodate our larger car. The only other slight problem with our room was that the wind would hit against the door early in the morning when other people where checking out… as ours was a corner unit. It sounded like someone was slamming on our door and it woke me up. Took me awhile to figure out the rapping on the door was caused by the wind and not some prankster.

🌟 Outstanding Stay at Amalia Hotel Athens 🌟 The Amalia Hotel Athens is in an excellent location—right in the center, with easy access to major sightseeing spots and many great food options. It is definitely the best choice in Athens, offering comfort at a very reasonable price. What made our stay truly memorable was the outstanding staff: Mrs. Kalliopi (Front Desk Receptionist) – She warmly upgraded our room, recommended some of the best dining experiences in Athens, and even made reservations for us. Her professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care made us feel so welcome. Ms. Irini Pasalidou (Housekeeping) – She kept our room spotless, replaced towels and toiletries promptly, and greeted us every morning with a smile. Her dedication, efficiency, and kindness made us feel right at home. Breakfast Team: Stavros & Marilena – Their smiles and attentive service brightened each morning. Stavros always served fresh orange juice as soon as we sat down, while Marilena ensured the buffet was well stocked and the tables were clean. Their dedication and hard work made breakfast a delightful experience. Because of these wonderful team members, our visit to Athens was exceptionally enjoyable and comfortable. We will gladly recommend Amalia Hotel Athens to our friends and look forward to returning soon. Joyce Yeung

It’s a very basic economic hotel. I booked the premium room with a balcony for city view, but everything (the room, the breakfast, the vibe, the staff) is still very basic. Also, there isn’t any window in the toilet so it always smells bad. The location is very good tho, close to everything. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it. Living here makes me feel Athens isn’t that good. I lived in another hotel after 2 days and it made me feel Athens much better.

Excellent location... honestly, I picked the hotel for the excellent review on the breakfast...didn't disappoint!! Google, and you see why! I checked out at 6.30 a.m., and the buffet was not open yet. The front desk staff actually packed some breakfast sandwiches, water, egg, and juice for me!! I'm so grateful for that!! Highly recommend...I'm definitely returning!! Also the location is at the downtown centre and near the Acropolis...so for tourists it's a breeze !! Excellent in every way! The location is perfect - right next to the Acropolis Museum, 7mins from a subway, close to many great restaurants but still down a peaceful street not crowded with tour groups (though the busses do pass by). The breakfast is hearty and flavourful. It fueled us till well into the afternoon. The staff were all friendly and helpful. And the rooftop restaurant has a view that few can match. If you want to have a relaxed yet romantic dinner this would be a great option. (but book in advance unless you just want a drink) The jacuzzi on the 4th floor was a treat after a long day of walking. It's worth noting that the cheaper rooms only have a window into the courtyard, so upgrade if you want the balcony looking onto the Acropolis. That said, the room was still very comfy with enough space for our two large suitcases - and there are places to get the view as mentioned above. I'll happily book here again on the next trip.

Located in the heart of Athens between Akropolis and Syntagma Square it is in a perfect location to cultural explore, go for shopping as well as arrange business meetings. Many restaurants and coffee places, all in walking distance. Main reason to choose Elia Ermou was the room size as it is 20+ sqm, and it has a parking garage in the same building. Further to mention is the nice roof top restaurant in the 7th floor with terrace and Akropolis view. One minor issue to mention is if a little more silence is required a room on the higher floors and not on the Ermou side might be the better choice… Overall verdict, being a globally experienced traveler, 5 stars !

The staff in the hotel are extremely lovely and they try their best to make the trip as enjoyable as possible. Matina is wonderful and just brings a smile to my face everytime I enter and exit the hotel. Elina was so kind to extend my checkout time despite the hotel being fully booked. Last but not least, the breakfast staff were so patient and always polite and lovely. Otherwise of course the hotel requires maintenance and the area is too crowded as any populated city, so if you go with the right expectations you will enjoy your trip, otherwise if you have high expectations I recommend booking somewhere else.

The average price of this hotel is nearly 4k per night. I booked two nights and only got one free bottle of water. I really didn't expect that... The strange decoration and the noise on the street (many motorcycles on the street) and the service are really not worth the price of nearly 4k per night. It's like a normal four-star hotel. If you just want a hotel close to the Acropolis or other attractions, you can look at other hotels. This one is really not very cost-effective.

Nice hotel. We stayed for 4 days. It is a very professional four-star hotel that can help you solve everything you need. The location is also good in the city center, close to Constitution Square and convenient to go everywhere; the breakfast is also very good and the variety is rich. The rooms are relatively small, but the bathroom area is relatively large, and there is also a bathtub. The room is equipped with water heater, hair dryer and disposable slippers. The bathroom has hand sanitizer and shower gel. Other toiletries such as toothpaste and toothbrush are not available. You need to bring your own. Overall the stay was very satisfactory. It should be reminded that Ctrip is booked by the agent. If there is any problem, Ctrip's quality service cannot help, and the agent's efficiency and ability are extremely poor. The result of the discussion is not as good as contacting himself. The wine list said The ordering party needs to send an e-mail, and after telling the agent, he will refuse to do so.

Santorini’s Caldera Views

The caldera is stunning year-round, but late spring and early fall offer the best balance of good weather and fewer tourists. Stroll through Oia’s iconic whitewashed alleys, snap photos of the blue-domed churches, and relax in Fira’s lively town center. Take a catamaran cruise around the caldera, visit the ancient site of Akrotiri, and indulge in a cliffside dinner at a taverna with views of the fiery sunset.

Very nice hotel. There are several swimming pools, a bar-restaurant and a restaurant for breakfast. It is close to the city, but you have to walk to it along the road for a few minutes. In general, this is not a problem, but if you want to rent in the center, you should look for another option. Instead of a double bed, there were two single beds, which is very inconvenient. The biggest advantage of this hotel is that it is in a good location, very close to the Ferra station, and there is a big supermarket opposite, the price is cheap, you can replenish mineral water and snacks at any time. Others are more ordinary. The room at the time of check-in is very noisy near the road. I immediately changed the room away from the main road. The window is opposite another hotel. Sometimes there will be construction sounds in the morning. The most incredible thing about the hotel is the bathroom. There is no place to put toilet paper and bath liquid. The toilet paper is placed on the sink outside the door and the toilet can be opened. The hygiene will be cleaned every day. We stayed for four days. When I arrived to check in at the scheduled time there was no-one around, and a cleaning lady I found attempted to check me in, until she told me they didn’t have my booking on file. Lucky they had one more room available. The room was dated, with a bed that felt like I was sleeping on a board. Got none. On the plus side, the owner is a nice old fella and the view is rad.

Great value! The hotel is located just a bit up the road, a couple of blocks away from the main area. It’s not a far walk, but up hill, could be challenging with large luggage. The plus of this location is the great view! (See the photo for the view from the balcony in the room) Very helpful staff, very clean, basic breakfast but tasty with a few options. Recommend.

Outstanding mid-century design hotel, fabulous architecture that has withheld the test of time, it is a credit to the management. Front office is efficient and knowledgeable with checkin & out smooth. Swimming pool is great, very clean and large to happily cope with the many users. There where a lot of coach tours staying at the hotel so we avoided early breakfast and the dinner buffet, sadly their food is the only blot to a perfect stay - we ordered dinner from the limited menu….chicken (I think it was chicken loaf) pasta and carbonara spaghetti both meals were disappointing, cold, tasteless and obviously straight off the buffet. Our second night we opted for a great Greek dinner in a local taverna only 5 mins walk.

Double bedroom, one big bed, two small beds, two bathrooms, very convenient for a family of four. The public area of the hotel is also very beautiful, the service is great However, the spa pool outside the room is not closed, and there is a buzzing sound when it is heated at night, which is very painful for people with sensitive sleep. We were too tired, and the front desk was not able to solve it, so we just let it go, and it didn't affect our sleep too much.

Every day spent in Mykonos is more memorable because of the Paradise Hotel Hotel manager Thanos had some fascinating smiles and professional service awareness, because the booked room type for some reason before the tenant did not check out, so we upgraded our better room for free. The manager showed us three room types and let us choose for ourselves. The hotel's restaurants are some very professional products, not losing to other restaurants outside. There is a very large outdoor pool, where many people swim in the sun during the day. The hotel also offers free pick-up and drop-off service, no matter how you get to the island, they will pick you up. If I have the opportunity to come back to Miknos, I will definitely choose this hotel.

A very good hotel, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, especially Raymond, who is a driver or a porter, especially warm and busy, can't rest, drive, and take luggage. We booked 2 baht, but because the hotel was booked separately, the hotel could not give the same room. I was also very surprised. However, I was given a free upgrade to the Honeymoon Suite on the first night, which is very good! There is a Bluetooth stereo, the balcony has a jacuzzi, and it is the sea. Compared to the second one, it is not so high-end, but it will sleep for one night. The toiletries are Apitica, I brought it back, but I feel that they are not doing it in good health, so I will take it. The hotel has its own swimming pool and the breakfast buffet is very good. It can be eaten from 7 o'clock to 11 o'clock. Bring a child plus 40 Euros. The beach near the hotel is more upscale, and there are restaurants and bars. The other beach is a bit far away, but the hotel can pick you up in the free car to pick you up and see if the driver is free. The lounge chairs over there are free and there are good restaurants nearby. Finally, the traffic, of course, is not so convenient than the urban area, but the hotel is more secluded environment! The new terminal should be taken by bus or sea bus to the old pier, and then take the bus to the right hand ramp of the bus stop at the hotel entrance. This train is relatively small and must be optimistic. The hotel has a free shuttle to the city every day at 12 o'clock and 9 pm. Finally, you can make an appointment to go to the terminal and the airport shuttle bus. The car we ordered for the new terminal was 15 euros, and the price was also good, because there were too few bus shifts, and I was afraid of the boat.

Myself and a friend booked this hotel pretty last minute after seeing such great reviews. It certainly did not disappoint, every member of staff in this hotel is incredible!! They couldn’t be anymore helpful. Special thanks to the reception staff who are available 24/7 via what’s app to book taxis arrange items needed to be brought to the room nothing is a problem, Extra special thanks to Costas the F&B manager. Not enough words can be said about this man he sincerely can not do enough for you, we have never experimented service like it. We were so happy and enjoyed our stay that we extended by an extra night, the hotel gave us a cheaper rate than we could find online and also upgraded our room (our original room was incredible) to a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony!! Hotel service is very good, breakfast is a la carte, very rich taste is also good. But the location of the store is not very good and the view is average. Especially the swimming pool is very small, you can't swim, you can only go down for bubbles. In addition, every time you go to the old town you have to pay 20euro one way, and you have to pay 40euro to go to other beach clubs. The daily transportation fee is very expensive, it is better to live near the old city. The junior suite is in a basement-like place, the room has strange noises, don't book it.
