Best time to visit Greece

Planning a trip to Greece? For many, it's undoubtedly a paradise that boasts gorgeous beaches, ancient ruins, and mouthwatering cuisine. But when is the best time to go? That depends on what you’re looking for—perfect weather, cristal clear sea water, or a lively holiday vibe. Let’s dive deeper into everything you need to know about the palce, so we can make the most of your Greek adventure.

Best Weather to Visit Greece

Greece’s Mediterranean climate means there’s no bad time to visit! But certain seasons have their own distinctive charm. Let’s take a closer look at how each season presents itself:

Spring (April to June)

Spring in Greece feels like stepping into a postcard. The landscape bursts with vibrant wildflowers, the weather is mild, and the crowds are manageable. Temperatures hover between 60°F and 75°F, making it the ideal time to explore historical sites and enjoy outdoor activities without breaking a sweat.

If you’re in Athens, spring is the perfect season to explore the Acropolis and meander through the charming Plaka district. Stop for a coffee at a kafeneio, where you can soak in the atmosphere. Further afield, Delphi is surrounded by lush greenery, offering a serene backdrop for uncovering its mystical oracle site. In the Peloponnese region, vibrant fields of wildflowers add an extra layer of beauty to ancient wonders like Mycenae and Epidaurus.

Foodies will adore spring in Greece, too. Treat yourself to succulent spring lamb roasted with herbs, salads bursting with fresh artichokes and wild greens, and galaktoboureko, a luscious custard-filled dessert.

Summer (July to August)

Summer is Greece’s peak tourist season, and for good reason. With long sunny days and temperatures ranging from the 80s to 90s°F, it’s the ultimate beach season. That said, it’s also the busiest time of year, so early bookings are essential.

Head to Mykonos for its iconic party scene. Spend your days lounging on beaches like Psarou and Paradise Beach, and your nights dancing at some of the world’s top clubs. If relaxation is more your style, Santorini beckons with its breathtaking sunsets at Oia and its volcanic beaches like Red Beach. Don’t miss a wine-tasting tour at a local vineyard to savor unique volcanic wines.

Best time to visit Greece | Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach

Crete is another summer hotspot. Visit Balos Lagoon, where turquoise waters meet pink-hued sands, or Elafonissi Beach, a true paradise for sun-seekers. Adventurers will love hiking the dramatic Samaria Gorge, ending their trek with a refreshing swim in the Libyan Sea. Satisfy your taste buds with grilled octopus, dakos salad, and creamy frozen yogurt topped with honey and nuts.

Fall (September to October)

Fall might just be the best-kept secret of Greece. The weather remains warm, averaging between 70°F and 80°F, while the summer crowds have thinned out. It’s also grape harvest season, so wine lovers are in for a treat.

Rhodes shines in autumn. Wander through its medieval Old Town, explore the Palace of the Grand Master, or take a boat trip to nearby islands. Nafplio offers charming streets lined with bougainvillea, local tavernas serving hearty meals, and a hike up to Palamidi Fortress for sweeping views.

Milos, known for its surreal Sarakiniko Beach, is a photographer’s dream. Fall is also a great time to enjoy quiet beaches and delicious local cuisine. Sample freshly harvested grapes, figs, and spanakopita, a savory spinach pie that’s perfect for a quick snack.

Winter (November to March)

Think Greece isn’t a winter destination? Think again. While the islands quiet down, cities like Athens and Thessaloniki come alive with local charm. Daytime temperatures range from 40°F to 60°F, offering a cozy and authentic experience.

Athens in winter is perfect for museum hopping. Visit the National Archaeological Museum or the Benaki Museum to delve into Greece’s rich history. Kolonaki, a chic neighborhood, is great for boutique shopping and cozy cafés.

Best time to visit Greece | National Archaeological Museum
National Archaeological Museum: a must-see destination for anyone interested in ancient Greek art and history. The museum houses an extensive collection of archaeological finds, including stunning sculptures, pottery, and jewelry, as well as historical artifacts from the Bronze Age to the Ancient Roman period.

For a snowy escape, head to Zagorohoria in the Epirus region. These picturesque villages are perfect for hiking and enjoying the serene, snowy landscapes. Ski enthusiasts can hit the slopes at Kalavryta. Warm up with avgolemono soup, a comforting chicken and lemon dish, or stifado, a hearty beef and onion stew. Don’t forget to try loukoumades, syrupy Greek doughnuts that will sweeten any chilly day.

The Acropolis, Athens

Spring and fall are ideal for exploring the Acropolis without the crowds or scorching heat. The Parthenon, dedicated to Athena, is awe-inspiring, while the Erechtheion’s Caryatids captivate visitors with their elegance. For panoramic views of Athens, climb Areopagus Hill. After your visit, head to the Monastiraki Flea Market to browse for souvenirs or enjoy dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the illuminated Acropolis.

Monastiraki Flea Market: The original intention of a flea market is to set up stalls to sell daily necessities that you don't need, but the Monastiraki flea market is more for tourists. Entering from an alley in Monastiraki Square, the first thing you see is a variety of clothing and handicrafts. You will see some stalls selling mostly Greek daily necessities.

The location was excellent, could walk easily to Acropolis in less than 5 mins. The hotel room was really clean and decent sized but felt that there could be a bit more hooks to hang face towel and clothings for bathing. The design of the city view room tried to consolidate some common area at the entrance and bathroom, making it a little odd. No rooftop restaurants or swimming pool, was caught by surprise when the staff told me in an oddly upset way that it’ll be closed permanently for 1.5 years (not sure what that meant).

This hotel is in a great location, convenient for shopping and directly accessible by X95. The breakfast is short but high-quality, and includes complimentary Korres toiletries. However, there are a number of issues: 1. If you choose the cheapest room, there's almost no view, the window faces the hotel interior, and the room is noisy and musty. 2. The hotel's sheets are extremely dirty, perhaps due to the high customer traffic, which may have led to poor service. It's a bit underrated for a five-star rating. After our conversation, there was no apology, just a simple note – it's an option, but definitely not the best.

The 8th and 9th floors of the hotel, as well as the rooftop breakfast area (which is also the top floor), offer direct views of the Parthenon. Plus, the infinity pool on the rooftop is perfect for photos! Probably because there are so many guests (and many rooms), after calling the front desk, service takes a long time to arrive (sometimes I even had to directly ask a housekeeper in the hallway for what I needed). The room facilities are quite old. Around noon, the front desk gets swamped with guests checking out. On another note, the hotel offers a free shuttle service to the old town every hour on the dot.

Ayrıca personellerin hepsi güler yüzlü ve samimiyetle yaklaştı. En son gün otelden çok erken ayrılmamız gerekiyordu. Absolutely fantastic! The breakfast was amazing, especially the super sweet fruit – the kiwi and mango were already peeled, which was a nice touch. The desserts were delicious too. The bathroom counter was huge, perfect for women. My room had a small desk right by the window, from which I could watch the changing of the guard at Syntagma Square. I stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed sitting there and reading. Being so close to Syntagma Square, the X95 airport bus stop is just a 2-3 minute walk away, about 200 meters. The path is flat with no inclines or declines, making it easy to manage with luggage. All the major attractions are within walking distance. Across the street is the National Garden, and there's a metro station nearby – incredibly convenient! The rooftop cafe and balcony offer stunning views of the Acropolis, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Parliament building. I even spent New Year's Eve on the rooftop watching the fireworks. I highly recommend this hotel!

Booked this hotel for a friend, and they gave it excellent feedback. It's directly accessible from the airport by metro, and just a leisurely ten-minute walk from the subway station. There's a bus stop right downstairs, making it super convenient to get to all the attractions. The hotel has been recently renovated, and the rooms are fully equipped. Excellent in every way! The location is perfect - right next to the Acropolis Museum, 7mins from a subway, close to many great restaurants but still down a peaceful street not crowded with tour groups (though the busses do pass by). The breakfast is hearty and flavourful. It fueled us till well into the afternoon. The staff were all friendly and helpful. And the rooftop restaurant has a view that few can match. If you want to have a relaxed yet romantic dinner this would be a great option. (but book in advance unless you just want a drink) The jacuzzi on the 4th floor was a treat after a long day of walking. It's worth noting that the cheaper rooms only have a window into the courtyard, so upgrade if you want the balcony looking onto the Acropolis. That said, the room was still very comfy with enough space for our two large suitcases - and there are places to get the view as mentioned above. I'll happily book here again on the next trip.

Located in the heart of Athens between Akropolis and Syntagma Square it is in a perfect location to cultural explore, go for shopping as well as arrange business meetings. Many restaurants and coffee places, all in walking distance. Main reason to choose Elia Ermou was the room size as it is 20+ sqm, and it has a parking garage in the same building. Further to mention is the nice roof top restaurant in the 7th floor with terrace and Akropolis view. One minor issue to mention is if a little more silence is required a room on the higher floors and not on the Ermou side might be the better choice… Overall verdict, being a globally experienced traveler, 5 stars !

The staff in the hotel are extremely lovely and they try their best to make the trip as enjoyable as possible. Matina is wonderful and just brings a smile to my face everytime I enter and exit the hotel. Elina was so kind to extend my checkout time despite the hotel being fully booked. Last but not least, the breakfast staff were so patient and always polite and lovely. Otherwise of course the hotel requires maintenance and the area is too crowded as any populated city, so if you go with the right expectations you will enjoy your trip, otherwise if you have high expectations I recommend booking somewhere else.

The average price of this hotel is nearly 4k per night. I booked two nights and only got one free bottle of water. I really didn't expect that... The strange decoration and the noise on the street (many motorcycles on the street) and the service are really not worth the price of nearly 4k per night. It's like a normal four-star hotel. Nice hotel. We stayed for 4 days. It is a very professional four-star hotel that can help you solve everything you need. The location is also good in the city center, close to Constitution Square and convenient to go everywhere; the breakfast is also very good and the variety is rich. The rooms are relatively small, but the bathroom area is relatively large, and there is also a bathtub. The room is equipped with water heater, hair dryer and disposable slippers. The bathroom has hand sanitizer and shower gel. Other toiletries such as toothpaste and toothbrush are not available. You need to bring your own. Overall the stay was very satisfactory. It should be reminded that Ctrip is booked by the agent. If there is any problem, Ctrip's quality service cannot help, and the agent's efficiency and ability are extremely poor. The caldera is stunning year-round, but late spring and early fall offer the best balance of good weather and fewer tourists. Stroll through Oia’s iconic whitewashed alleys, snap photos of the blue-domed churches, and relax in Fira’s lively town center. Take a catamaran cruise around the caldera, visit the ancient site of Akrotiri, and indulge in a cliffside dinner at a taverna with views of the fiery sunset.

Others are more ordinary. The room at the time of check-in is very noisy near the road. I immediately changed the room away from the main road. The window is opposite another hotel. Sometimes there will be construction sounds in the morning. The most incredible thing about the hotel is the bathroom. There is no place to put toilet paper and bath liquid. When I arrived to check in at the scheduled time there was no-one around, and a cleaning lady I found attempted to check me in, until she told me they didn’t have my booking on file. Lucky they had one more room available. The room was dated, with a bed that felt like I was sleeping on a board. Got none. On the plus side, the owner is a nice old fella and the view is rad.

Great value! The hotel is located just a bit up the road, a couple of blocks away from the main area. It’s not a far walk, but up hill, could be challenging with large luggage. The hotel is in the deep alley of the town of Delphi, and the process of going to the hotel needs to pass a small hillside, and there is a small effort to carry too much luggage. This hotel seems to be a historical building, it is old European style, the proprietress is very enthusiastic, will not discriminate against you because you are Chinese. I will introduce you to the various customs and history of Delphi Town and the story of her running this wine hotel. The breakfast was very delicious. I had a variety of traditional Greek snacks next to the warm fireplace. I was very happy. The room was a little small. I took the child to give a free extra bed and liked it.

Outstanding mid-century design hotel, fabulous architecture that has withheld the test of time, it is a credit to the management. Front office is efficient and knowledgeable with checkin & out smooth. Swimming pool is great, very clean and large to happily cope with the many users. There where a lot of coach tours staying at the hotel so we avoided early breakfast and the dinner buffet, sadly their food is the only blot to a perfect stay - we ordered dinner from the limited menu….chicken (I think it was chicken loaf) pasta and carbonara spaghetti both meals were disappointing, cold, tasteless and obviously straight off the buffet. Our second night we opted for a great Greek dinner in a local taverna only 5 mins walk.

Double bedroom, one big bed, two small beds, two bathrooms, very convenient for a family of four. The public area of the hotel is also very beautiful, the service is great However, the spa pool outside the room is not closed, and there is a buzzing sound when it is heated at night, which is very painful for people with sensitive sleep. We were too tired, and the front desk was not able to solve it, so we just let it go, and it didn't affect our sleep too much.

Every day spent in Mykonos is more memorable because of the Paradise Hotel Hotel manager Thanos had some fascinating smiles and professional service awareness, because the booked room type for some reason before the tenant did not check out, so we upgraded our better room for free. The manager showed us three room types and let us choose for ourselves. The hotel's restaurants are some very professional products, not losing to other restaurants outside. There is a very large outdoor pool, where many people swim in the sun during the day. The hotel also offers free pick-up and drop-off service, no matter how you get to the island, they will pick you up. If I have the opportunity to come back to Miknos, I will definitely choose this hotel.

A very good hotel, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, especially Raymond, who is a driver or a porter, especially warm and busy, can't rest, drive, and take luggage. We booked 2 baht, but because the hotel was booked separately, the hotel could not give the same room. I was also very surprised. However, I was given a free upgrade to the Honeymoon Suite on the first night, which is very good! There is a Bluetooth stereo, the balcony has a jacuzzi, and it is the sea. Compared to the second one, it is not so high-end, but it will sleep for one night. The toiletries are Apitica, I brought it back, but I feel that they are not doing it in good health, so I will take it. The hotel has its own swimming pool and the breakfast buffet is very good. It can be eaten from 7 o'clock to 11 o'clock. Bring a child plus 40 Euros. The beach near the hotel is more upscale, and there are restaurants and bars. The other beach is a bit far away, but the hotel can pick you up in the free car to pick you up and see if the driver is free. The lounge chairs over there are free and there are good restaurants nearby. Finally, the traffic, of course, is not so convenient than the urban area, but the hotel is more secluded environment! The new terminal should be taken by bus or sea bus to the old pier, and then take the bus to the right hand ramp of the bus stop at the hotel entrance. This train is relatively small and must be optimistic. The hotel has a free shuttle to the city every day at 12 o'clock and 9 pm. Finally, you can make an appointment to go to the terminal and the airport shuttle bus. The car we ordered for the new terminal was 15 euros, and the price was also good, because there were too few bus shifts, and I was afraid of the boat.

Myself and a friend booked this hotel pretty last minute after seeing such great reviews. It certainly did not disappoint, every member of staff in this hotel is incredible!! They couldn’t be anymore helpful. Special thanks to the reception staff who are available 24/7 via what’s app to book taxis arrange items needed to be brought to the room nothing is a problem, Extra special thanks to Costas the F&B manager. Not enough words can be said about this man he sincerely can not do enough for you, we have never experimented service like it. We were so happy and enjoyed our stay that we extended by an extra night, the hotel gave us a cheaper rate than we could find online and also upgraded our room (our original room was incredible) to a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony!! Hotel service is very good, breakfast is a la carte, very rich taste is also good. But the location of the store is not very good and the view is average. Especially the swimming pool is very small, you can't swim, you can only go down for bubbles. In addition, every time you go to the old town you have to pay 20euro one way, and you have to pay 40euro to go to other beach clubs. The daily transportation fee is very expensive, it is better to live near the old city. The junior suite is in a basement-like place, the room has strange noises, don't book it.

When visiting Greece, indulging in its world-famous cuisine is a must. For American travelers, here are three Greek dishes that offer an authentic and delicious experience, along with the best time of year to enjoy them.

1. Moussaka

What It Is: A rich and flavorful baked casserole made with layers of eggplant, spiced minced meat (usually lamb or beef), and a creamy béchamel sauce.
Why It’s Perfect: It’s hearty, comforting, and reminiscent of lasagna, but with a Mediterranean twist.
Best Time to Try: Autumn (September–November): Moussaka is best enjoyed in the cooler months when you can savor its warm and satisfying flavors. Plus, eggplants are in peak season during early fall, ensuring the freshest taste.
