"Upon arrival, the staff insisted that I paid for a twin bedroom, which is not correct as the amount reflected on the proof of payment corresponds a double bed room. I was then told that no double bed is available, after ten minutes it was suddenly available. It is disappointing that I had to verbally exchange with the staff so that I can get a room that I paid for. The staff attitude thereafter was also not nice, we stayed because we paid and there’s no refund policy but in all honest truth, the stay was unpleasant."

"This beautiful hotel deserves its 5 star rating from the initial greeting to the farewell. We were two couples who arrived in the evening for a one night stop over stay before going onto a safari. We were welcomed on arrival and the staff did everything they could to ensure our stay was a pleasant one. The food for dinner and breakfast was amazing. The rooms were fantastic with lovely balconies and spacious bedrooms and bathrooms with everything you needed including an iron and ironing board which you don't get elsewhere. What they could improve on was the time it took to serve meals especially the breakfast but when it did come it was quality."

Kievits Kroon Gauteng Wine Estate
"We decided on Kievets Kroon for a mid-week couples break. Neither of us had been before but it fitted our requirement of being close to Jhb. All the buildings are Cape Dutch style, painted white, with thatch roofs providing an imposing backdrop to beautifully manicured gardens notwithstanding the middle of winter weather. We were welcomed warmly from the entrance gate to our room. The rooms are in various clusters around the property and provide a variety of options to suit different requirements. We had upgraded to an executive room situated in the new block which was close to all amenities. The room was what one would expect from a 4* hotel - it was comfortable and reasonably spacious but no WOW factor. The buffet breakfast with hot egg counter was well presented and there was no shortage of food. A variety of specialty coffees was also available. We only ate dinner at the Kingsley restaurant which was very pleasant. We had the signature his / her treatment in a well-appointed Spa. The spa facilities are impressive but somewhat spoilt by a crowd of ladies that dominated the hot tub to the exclusion of anyone else. The actual treatment we would rate as average. We had a picnic lunch on the one day which was very well presented under the shade of a beautiful tree. On top of a hearty breakfast, the picnic was too much, and we could have easily gotten by on one basket for both of us. There is no gym or decent walking trail on the property, so we took a morning off to go to Wolwespruit - about 25 minutes away - which offers running / walking trails in a clean, safe environment. We had one gripe which was that housekeeping did not remove the room service tray which was outside our room for +24 hours and only removed once we had pointed this out to reception. The winter chills prevented the external pol from being used and thus it was too cold to laze round the pool. I would think that the main revenue stream of Kievets Kroon is its conferencing capacity which is substantial. All in all, a pleasant enough stay but if we went again, we would stick to summer."

"Small establishment. Very obliging staff. In protected Waterkloof compounds. A bit labyrinthical and with slightly fatigued installations. Lots of stairs. Nine rooms in toto. No eating facilities, that is dinner, but a decent bar and excellent pricing for the sumptuous habitat. Decent breakfast and garden views and greenery in a slopy landscape. Fine vista across to the hills. Private garage at no extra price"

"The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The linen was nice and the bed comfortable. However, many, many things were broken. The phone didn’t work, the wifi was weak and kept dropping, the shower rose was extremely faulty, paint and plaster was bubbling and peeling off the walls in several places in the bathroom and bedroom. The toilet roll holder was broken, and the room in general was very dated, dark and felt dingy. At no point was I told about the condition of the room or all the things wrong with it. I was walked to the door and that was that. I don’t know if nobody has checked the room, or if perhaps they think that the quality of the room is perfectly fine, or if they don’t care. I’m not sure, but just the peeling and bubbling paint was so bad that there is no way they didn’t know the room and bathroom were looking they way they were, because hat degree of water damage takes months to get to that degree."

"We were treated very well from day one, until we departed 5 days later. The staff at reception and the dining room gave us a good service and ensured my daughter was happy. Room with 2 double beds were bit tight but livable if you kept things tidy and in place. The hotel was conveniently located near the Pretoria Urology Hospital where I had an appointment and hotel offered a free shuttle. UBERS are easy to get and safe pick up and drop off point. Breakfast was ok with noir selection of food, fruits and veggies."
