OPOA BEACH HOTEL ★★★

"We loved our 1-week stay at Opoa Beach Hotel during the holidays in December 2025 and New Year's Eve. Our bungalow was simple in terms of furnishings but very spacious, with an oceanfront deck, large bathroom, and a sitting area in the living room. The room perfectly matched the photos. All of the staff at Opoa Beach Hotel are absolutely wonderful and always greeted us with a smile. Service was prompt and attentive. Breakfast was served either in the main restaurant or on the beach, weather permitting. The food quality was amazing (we had booked half board), and the set menu varied every day so that there was no repetitiveness. On New Year's Eve, the hotel provided an extra festive 5-course menu with a live Tahitian band and dancers - absolutely wonderful and one of our best New Year's Eve parties ever. The hotel is also able to assist with excursions or providing a rental car if you are so inclined; massages are available as well, which were of a very high quality and very relaxing. Opoa Beach Hotel is located on the Southern end of Raiatea, which is close to the Botanical Garden and historical sites but farther away from the main town on the island, so expect an approximate 45 min drive into town/transfer from the airport. If you opt to participate in some of the excursions organized through the hotel, pickup was by boat directly at the hotel's dock (we did not have a rental car except for one day where we rented a car from the hotel to explore the island on our own)."

"I can't comment on the price, as we had this place booked via a travel agent as part of a package. The place was quite basic. No aircon. It is 7km from the township, with nowhere nearby to get food - although you do have the option of ordering dinner from a menu, which the hosts will then go and pick up. There are bicycles available to use for no extra cost. My main beef with this place was that I had emailed them before arrival to ask about mosquito nets - they advised that all of the room had mosquito nets fitted, then our room turned out to not have any. The windows has screens, but with fairly big gaps around the screen, where bugs could easily get in. The communal kitchen was good, the washing machine was very much appreciated."
