Best Hotels in Roussillon

We had a excellent stay in this hotel. We stayed in an attic room with terrace - being an attic room this obviously had challenges in terms of room height. This was more than made up for by the fabulous views from the terrace. The air conditioning was efficient, the bed was comfortable and there was a kettle, mugs and glasses. Parking is free in the next door public car park. There is a relaxing pool area with plenty of shade and sun loungers. The hotel is a short walk from the village. The owner was welcoming.

We stayed here two nights in early July of 2019. The room was very well appointed. It had a nice patio that gave us a peaceful spot to sit at the end of the day as well as a place for coffee and croissants in the morning. Two features were quite appreciated, as it was a very hot stretch of days. One is that the room was air conditioned and the other is that there was a very nice swimming pool. At the end of the day of traveling the area we could sit near the pool and unwind with some wine and periodically swim for cooling comfort. This was a very well-located small hotel within minutes of Roussillon, where we ate most evening meals. The proprietor provided a card that allowed us to park in local resident parking lots at no additional expense. This is very much a benefit as parking is hard to fine in and around Roussillon. In addition, the location made it easy for us to see the area, including the lavender fields, the market in Sault, touring up and over Mont Ventoux, and other beautiful villages. The breakfast was also nice and included the standard fare found in hotels and B&B's in France. The proprietor/manager was very helpful.

This was quite simply put ... the highlight of our trip to Provence. I labored and labored over the research to figure out how to maximize our 4 day stay in Provence and there were several luxury hotels we were considering. Our first choice was Arielles Gordes but that was simply ridiculous pricing ... we also looked at a few others until we read an article in a travel magazine proclaiming Coquillade France's best resort. After staying there (and visiting Arielles for lunch) we would agree that Coquillade is the best. The staff could not have been nicer and after 4 days, we found ourselves on a first name basis with most of them. There was only one not so great staff member we encountered who was either very aloof or very shy but she was totally out of place with the rest who were wonderful. The valets, waiters, front desk staff and concierge were all first class. Our room was upgraded to a wonderful semi-suite ... full of space. It had a jacuzzi and a steam shower. There was a sitting area, a sleeping area and an outdoor patio. Sadly, it rained two of our for nights and I will say that the resort and room is remarkably better in the sun with miles of walking trails, biking roads and a wonderful (yet crowded) pool. We loved waking up for the complimentary full breakfast and everything was fresh and many ingredients such as honey, vegetables, fruit and herbs came from the hotel's own private garden. At night there were some mosquitos, so we were unable to sleep with the patio door opened ... but during the day, this was so great as there is Jasmine everywhere which perfumes the air. Our favorite moments were spent on the balcony sharing a bottle of wine. The mini bar in the room was restocked daily with local beer, spring water and candy and snacks. There are these amazing oranges in syrup in the rooms ... the staff told us where to buy them in a nearby town and we took a big jar home with us. Housekeeping was great and our room was spotless and clean. The resort is near many great towns ... of course there is the supposedly most picturesque town in France, Gordes. 30 minutes away by car we liked it but not as much as Rousillion which was our favorite town. Only 20 minutes away. The hotel gave us a few other towns to visit as well. While the hotel is really in the middle of nowhere ... and there are few restaurants less than a 20 minute drive, you truly feel lost in Provence here. If you want to be more in a traditional village, Gordes or some of the other villages may be more to your liking. However, unlike Spain, everything closes early in Provence and finding even a bar open past 10 p.m. on a weeknight, much less a restaurant, is quite a feat. The only so-so part of our trip was the hotel's restaurants. The most fancy one was closed our entire trip ... the pizza near the pool was great ... the main restaurant and room service we didn't really care for. We really enjoyed Le Phébus & Spa -- it is a very relaxing place that has outstanding food and service. All of the staff that we interacted with were friendly and helpful, and they understood and addressed any of our questions/concerns. Our room was very spacious and comfortable (with great AC!!). We had the prestige suite and we highly recommend this room. It has a private patio with a pool and sun beds, which we really enjoyed. We ate all our breakfasts on the terrace. The room is quite comfortable and well serviced twice daily - fresh water provided each day. Plenty of towels, including towels for the pool! Comfortable bed and bedding. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, although most days we did not get exactly what we ordered it was always tasty! The SPA was great - I had a manicure and pedicure, which were wonderful. I wish I would have had enough time for a massage as well ..... Our meals were exceptional. We had a real surprise on our first night when the Cafe has such outstanding food and what a great value! On our second night we dined at the their one-starred -- La Table de Xavier Mathieu -- and it was fabulous. Each course was exceptionally creative - we had the discovery menu and especially liked the Sha-bu-Sha-bu and the veal with Tuna sauce, But all courses were delicious and creative reinventions on meals from around the world. Dessert also excellent. We loved Provence - especially the Luberon towns of Saignon, Rousillon, and Lourmanin (we had an outstanding lunch in Lourmanin!). On our second touring day, we visited Chateneuf de Pope for wine tasting had a fabulous lunch, and then the visited Avignon --- which is a lovely and lively town!! - and we had a fabulous dinner there. So we ate well throughout Provence! Overall, Le Phébus & Spa is an outstanding place and a great base to explore Provence, and we highly recommend!!!

We stayed here for 3 nights,and we received Cambre del Maestro at first floor. This Mas is part of Les Collectionneurs and entering here seems like you are home or in your very good friend’s home. Everything is authentic and well positioned, in a peacefull place, just over the street there is a meadow where there were two white horses( like a story…). We also had a elegant bathroom with all amenities, very clean. The single minus was that there was not a little fridge in the room - the weather was so hot-but Mara helped us by keeping some beer and water in them fridge. This Mas has a wonderful yard with a large swimming pool, with and amazing view of Falaise de la Madeleine, pool beds, umbrellas. Breakfast is so “french” : different kind of bread, croissants, different kind of confiture, butter, fruits, cakes, yogurt and -the most important- a very good coffee. We also had the possibility to make tea, coffee all day long, we found limonade at swimming pool, water, etc. Everything was excellent , the owners Mara and Jerome are very kind and helpful. We mad enew friends : Jango and Shippy - the dog and the cat - the real owners of Mas aux Cedre. I recommand staying here and for sure we’ll come back.

Hotel just outside Joucas is in a beautiful, quiet location and commanding amazing views across the Luberon valley. Perfect location to visit Gordes, Bonnieux, Menerbes and other stunning hilltop villages in this region. Staff were extremely friendly on check-in and in general throughout our 7 night stay. Our room was Superior Room but certainly not close to 5 star standard. Firstly many dings on the walls and scrapes from luggage. Easily fixed with a coat of paint but not done on our arrival. Also mould on bathroom tiling and grout where fixture had been removed. Pump soap and amenity dispensers found in the bathroom, rather than individual toiletries, always look cheap and appear to be counting pennies and trying to economize which I don’t expect in a true 5 star hotel. One 330ml of water per day during service also suggests same and another guest was seen complaining about this and comparing to other 5 star hotels. There appeared to be many helpful and friendly staff during our stay but service just did not seem great and somewhat unrefined, especially at breakfast, which seemed chaotic. On our last day, a Friday and likely busiest day, one poor guy was trying to service the whole of the breakfast terrace on his own. No pool service really either, so again, seemingly plenty of staff just not attending to 5 star expectations. Beautiful area, views and buildings at the hotel but just needs some refining, attention to detail and taking care of some key expectations to become truly 5 star.
