KAMENOI HOTEL TAZAWAKO
8.4 (234 reviews)

KAMENOI HOTEL TAZAWAKO ★★★★

📍 Komagatake-2-32 Tazawako Obonai, Semboku

"Couldn't sleep on a futon, so I opted for a Japanese-Western style room. It was quite spacious. There's no central air conditioning, so they use oil heaters. Initially, the smell of lamp oil was really strong and I found it quite off-putting, but after a couple of nights, I gradually got used to it. The breakfast and dinner buffet was a bit simple, but the food tasted pretty good. They even had late-night noodles! The snow view was absolutely stunning and very impressive. The hotel offers a convenient shuttle service to and from JR Tazawako Station."

Magorokuonsen Rokuan
9.6 (32 reviews)

Magorokuonsen Rokuan ★★

📍 3051, Lake Tazawa, Sendatsuzawa, National Forest, Semboku

"Highly recommended! The hotel's service begins before check-in, with a detailed check-in process email. In winter, they even arrange luggage cart service, making it convenient whether you're driving or using public transportation. Both meals during my stay were amazing. The hotel was renovated in 2025, and its facilities and services are top-notch in the area."

Kashintei Shirahama
9.3 (42 reviews)

Kashintei Shirahama ★★★★

📍 Haruyama-145-15 Tazawako Tazawa, Semboku

"Amazing stay. The staff service is immaculate, took the stay with food option (includes breakfast + dinner). It's right in front of Lake Tazawako. There's both a public and private onsen (first come first serve, usage for 40 mins)."

Komagatake Onsen
9.2 (35 reviews)

Komagatake Onsen ★★★

📍 Shimotakano-80-68 Tazawako Obonai, Semboku

"The owner is very nice, and the food is very light and healthy, authentic Japanese cuisine. However, the location is quite deep in the mountains, so I recommend driving or taking a bus to a nearby stop and walking there. There's a free shuttle bus to Tsurunoyu in the evening, making for a very pleasant experience."

📍 Shimotakano-73-14 Tazawako Obonai, Semboku

"The location would be the best if going during the ski season you can see the ski filed from the room."

📍 61-10 Osaka, Tazawakoobonai, Semboku

"Thank you very much for your kind assistance."

Shintamagawa Onsen

Shintamagawa Onsen ★★★

📍 Tazawako Tamagawa, 渋黒沢, Semboku

"There's a bus that goes directly from Tazawako Station to the hotel entrance, which is very convenient. The rooms aren't very big, but they're clean and tidy. Breakfast and dinner are both buffet style, with a wide variety of choices. The onsen (hot spring) is a unique feature and definitely worth a stay."

Katakuri No Hana

Katakuri No Hana ★★

📍 Haruyama-197 Tazawako Tazawa, Semboku

"Near to the lake with access to the lake for a nice evening stroll. Walkable from bus terminal."

Tazawa Kogen Hotel
8.9 (21 reviews)

Tazawa Kogen Hotel ★★★

📍 Komagatake-2 Tazawako Obonai, Semboku

"The hotel is very reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area. The hot springs were also very pleasant. The facilities are old, but it's a nice hotel."

Café & Inn That Sounds Good Hotels in Semboku

Café & Inn That Sounds Good

"The reception service is friendly, but the bathroom and toilet are shared, which is relatively inconvenient. The sound insulation effect is not good, you can clearly hear the sounds from next door or outside the room door, and the room is next to the bar on the first floor. It is not recommended for people who want to go to bed early or are afraid of noise."

Hotel B4T Kakunodate Hotels in Semboku

Hotel B4T Kakunodate

"Apologies for the rather low score on service but as this is an unmanned hotel, and I had no direct experience of utilising the help line, I could not rate any higher; I did bump into the cleaning ladies, who are doing an excellent job, on my early morning departure, and they were most kind. The hotel is right next to the train station and has its own storage lockers as well as a beautifully maintained lobby with excellent amenities, including vending machines and freely available teas and coffee. The room was well appointed and clean and there was no noise, as expected in a more rural area. The day before check-in, one will receive an email and will be asked to fill out a pre-check in procedure which will produce a QR code necessary when actually checking in at the machines upon arrival-there are no staff on site. This proved seamless for myself, but may be somewhat perplexing or frustrating for older folks or those, like myself, who are not so technologically literate. There is a help button for those who may need it. I was delighted to find that there are coin operated washing/drying machines available. Nearby, there are cafes and bakeries and everything worth seeing is within manageable walking distance. Walking a little further will bring one to some lovely shrines at the end of the town and on the opposite end a beautiful view overlooking the town and the cherry blossom lined river. Having missed cherry blossom season by a few weeks, the view at both sunrise and sunset was worn the extra steps. Do try the local udon, the set pictured was from Machiya Hall and was most delicious."

Natsuse Onsen Miyakowasure Hotels in Semboku

Natsuse Onsen Miyakowasure

"Natsuse Onsen Miyakowasure is truly remote. Although technically situated in Semboku — home to both Lake Tazawa and the historic town of Kakunodate with its award-winning luxury ryokan, Wabizakura — it feels far removed from civilization. The drive from Kakunodate takes over 30 minutes, and Lake Tazawa is about 45 minutes away. A key factor is the 4km gravel road leading to the ryokan: narrow, winding, and flanked by steep embankments. As tempting as it is to admire the hypnotic beauty of the Kamishirochosei Reservoir and its surrounding landscape, keep your eyes on the road — there’s little margin for error. Miyakowasure's seclusion is absolute: the gravel road is a dead-end, beyond which lies only a dam and power station another 2km away. The sense of serenity is immediate. Upon arrival, we stepped out of the car and were struck by the absence of buildings, power lines, or traffic noise. Just nature. Just peace. For those less inclined to adventurous driving, Miyakowasure offers a shuttle service from both Kakunodate Station and Mori no Eki (which also provides free parking). This is highly recommended during winter, as the drive could be downright perilous — even with chains. The name "Miyakowasure" draws from two inspirations: first, it's a reference to the purple tea flowers blooming in the central garden; second, it evokes the phrase "forget the capital," a nod to leaving behind the pace and politics of Kyoto in favor of deep tranquility. The 10-room property is charming, with vibrant hydrangeas (in full bloom during our visit), sakura trees, and onsen fountains dotting the grounds. A short walking trail invites guests to explore the lush surroundings. The inner courtyard features a dry rock garden and additional sakura. I can only imagine the seasonal transformations — especially during cherry blossom and autumn foliage. Indoors, however, things become a bit discordant. The combination of traditional Japanese architecture with flamboyant Edwardian furnishings is jarring. Sadly, this theme extends to the guest rooms. We stayed in the Kihinshitsu (VIP Room) "Kusabue," the ryokan’s top accommodation. The layout included a carpeted Western-style living room, a tatami room, and a wash area with a single sink. The futon setup — where tables and chairs are pushed aside during dinner — is something we've never warmed to. A dedicated bedroom would be ideal. The living room, meanwhile, featured a chandelier, a glittery multi-colored lamp, and furniture that has clearly aged. It's evident the rooms haven't been renovated since the ryokan opened in 2005, and they're certainly showing it. Fortunately, the onsen experience is where Miyakowasure shines. Each room boasts a gensen kakenagashi rotenburo — an open-air bath fed directly and continuously from the source. Nine rooms overlook the Tama River, while one offers only a mountain view. Kusabue is the sole room with both indoor and outdoor baths, a valuable amenity in colder months. The outdoor "

Tamachi Bukeyashiki Hotel

"From the moment we walked in the door to the morning we left we were made to feel completely at home and welcomed like old friends. Everything was so beautifully presented and we slept so well. Receiving tickets to the local Onsen was a lovely surprise. If you decide to only do the breakfast plan we highly recommend making reservations for dinner in local restaurants asap after you arrive as they fill up very quickly. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was attention to detail in presentation and completely delicious 😋. Highly recommended and would definitely love to stay again in a different season to see everything in a different light."

Komagatake Onsen ★★★
"After getting off at Tazawako Station, take the Nyuto Line bus to the rest stop, the fare is 500 yen. After getting off the bus, I couldn't get through to the hotel pick-up phone number, but the reliable Ctrip customer service helped me contact the hotel. This kind of heavy snow is the embodiment of Ctrip's value. The open-air hot spring on a snowy day is so beautiful. The room is large, the food is standard, the outdoor private bath is free, the large bath is also good, and I was sent to Tsuru no Yu to soak for an hour at night. It's worth it. It's really a treasure hotel."

Shintamagawa Onsen ★★★
"This was my second time staying at Shin-Tamagawa on the mountain. The first time was last autumn; the mountain scenery was stunning, with vibrant colors. This year, I visited in spring. The temperature was lower, the snow hadn't completely melted, and the weather was quite unpredictable. If it rained all day, the temperature dropped even further, and I didn't want to go outside. This time, I went to Tamagawa and enjoyed natural rock bathing outdoors or under shelters. I hope my health will continue to improve!"

Tazawa Kogen Hotel ★★★
"The hotel is located near the bus station and has convenient transportation. It is clean and the food is delicious. The boss is very hospitable. Because I don’t speak Japanese, the boss patiently used his mobile phone to translate Japanese into Chinese to communicate with me because I had to catch a flight and the kitchen was ready early. I prepared breakfast. After checking out, the boss told me in translated words that the road outside was slippery in the snow and I had to be careful. It made me feel warm."
