Troutbeck

Troutbeck

📍 515 Leedsville Road, Amenia
★★★ 8.5 (30 reviews)

"Troutbeck has a high-end feel absent any pretension. If you like to be in a luxurious resort, but don’t want to feel the need to be anyone other than yourself- Troutbeck is your place with your people. My only hesitation in coming back again is the sharing of the amenities with Troutbeck Members. During our stay the pool area was full with day visiting members including many young children. It is a bit difficult to accept that you need to compete for space and sense of quiet with people not even staying at the resort. But, the property is so special, that it is likely still worth dealing with this shortcoming."

"One of the worst hotel experiences of my life. Very old rooms, air conditioner that is as loud as a rocket ship, dingy. We stayed in the Countryside building at the inn, maybe the other buildings are better, but our building was terrible. Also, there was a wedding going on at hotel with music blasting till 10 pm (hotel never notified this was happening us when we booked). We have little kids and this kept them up. Even worse though, what felt like 50 wedding guests were hanging out loudly in the parking lot in front of rooms till 2:30 am. We were up all night. It was terrible. The people working there are very nice, but the hotel is really bad. Horrible experience."

"We are locals and invited some friends out to experience this relatively new place; 4 of us who’ve been around the block a fair bit. We’ve been here for drinks before and wanted to experience dining. All four, however, were very unimpressed with the entire experience. Admittedly, we were 15 mins late, and called to let them know. The restaurant was not full but upon sitting, and shuffling between three different waiters, the final one told me we only had the table for an hour and a half. This seems to be more common these days among many US restaurants, and far from the French experience of having your table for evening. So, fine, we were on the clock for an expensive but supposedly relaxing experience. The food was fine, the wine overly priced. After feeling rushed to finish, we later went to the roof for a drink. One only wanted a warm tea but was told that that was only available on the second floor restaurant but not on the third floor roof top area. After the waiter took our collective order, the roof top head honcho comes by to inform us that no tea would be forthcoming; apparently the three workers standing around doing nothing were too busy to travel the one floor to obtain a non-alcoholic beverage. All in all, I would say the service was lacking much, the prices too high, and the attitude juvenile. Luckily, there is no shortage of dinning opportunities in the area."

Troutbeck ★★★
"I had such a wonderful experience atTroutbeck. The atmosphere is incredibly relaxed, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful—it’s the kind of place where you can truly unwind and enjoy the surroundings. The food was delicious from start to finish, but what really made the evening stand out was the service. Erica was amazing—so attentive without being overbearing, and perfectly timed with checking in on us. She really elevated the whole experience. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal in a peaceful, scenic setting."

The White Hart ★★★★
"We've stayed in the White Hart before, and have always loved the ambiance, rooms, and food. However this time was so disappointing. We stayed in room 32, which was a lower level King bed suite in the separate cottage. The room itself was lovely. However, I would never stay here again. Starting in the early evening, and then again first thing in the morning, every single footstep in the upstairs room could be heard as though it was a herd of elephants. We finally called the front desk, who tried to help, and when the upstairs guests did not answer their phone, the staff member came over to knock on their door. They did have children who must have been constantly in motion, although the guests denied it. They may not have realized that in such an old buidling, every step can be heard below, and even when told, did not think it appropriate to try and restrain their children. While the hotel staff expressed their apologies (in the evening, and again when I mentioned it at checkout), nothing was done. Recognizing that guest behavior is out of the control of management, these upper floor rooms should not allow young children (unless some sort of sound proofing is added). These rooms are not inexpensive, and for a special evening away, we were sorely disappointed."

"Great little addition to Litchfield. Once a courthouse and now a boutique hotel. You can walk right outside of the hotel and you are in the main town with cute boutiques and restaurants. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the parking is easy. On a negative note, there is a lack of shower pressure. We have stayed here 3 times and every room we have stayed in, the shower pressure is very weak. Hopefully, they can fix the issue as it has been addressed several times. They have 2 restaurants. One is the Courthouse which is open year round. Both the food and service was terrific. They also have a rooftop bar with small plates called the Verdict, which is open during the summer months, just be aware if you have family members under 21 they will be asked to leave. Our 14 year old son was asked to leave."
