"Our room directly faced the ocean, and it was absolutely stunning! The hotel assigned us room A001, which was the closest to the front desk, saving my elderly parents the hassle of walking too far. You could go snorkeling and see fish right outside the door. Equipment rental was 15 MYR per day, so you didn't need to bring anything. We booked the 12 PM boat departure. After checking out at 11:30 AM, we went to the pier and saw sharks and lots of fish. The sea was incredibly beautiful! Next time, if I have more time, I'll definitely stay on the island for a few more days. Also, a big shout-out to the hotel's seafood restaurant – it was delicious and not expensive! Highly recommended!"

"The location is really beautiful and the owner very friendly. We stayed in the beachfront which is a nice lodge . Unfortunately the bedding was really dirty. We had to ask for different pillows as ours was full of stains, yellow and really gross. They should put an extra layer around them that they easily can wash. The bed sheets weren't very clean either. Beda were comfortable. They have an excellent cook for dinner. Though you can't really enjoy it that much as the noise in the restaurant from a exhaust fan or generator (not sure) was so extremely loud. A real pitty as the location is beautiful but the noise just spoils it. We therefore ended up eating elsewhere on the other nights even though the cook was great. Breakfast is simple and not much you can only choose between set breakfast and it was just not enough. We would recommend as the location is nice but there is definitely room for improvement"

"Great environment. Relaxing and doable. Great Sunrise except for occasional overcast. The beach is white. The size of the room is comfortable. Beds are big. The deluxe room has a small balcony which leads to the swimming pool and dining hall. The room is not the cleanest. Saw some baby cockroaches running around the bathroom. The pillows are way too soft. The Aircon power is very weak Occasional power trips. There are a few dive shops along the way. Good selection for divers who wants different experience diving around Juara. Food prices are average. There is a roti canai shop mia cafe. Which sells out out very quickly. Be on time at 7am if you want to try it."

"Juara Ocean chalets consists of one large beach front chalet with two smaller chalets above them and three large garden view chalets. We stayed initially in one of the first floor chalets and then one night in a garden view chalet. The chalets are as you expect wooden style structures but are clean with very comfortable beds and good bed linen. They have fans and aircon which works well, a small fridge, kettle and comfortable outside chairs. They have new TV’s with Netflix; the WiFi is also very good and works in all the chalets. The beach front chalets have a wonderful view and are literally on the beach. The two upstairs chalets also have a hammock so you can chill whilst looking at the view. They chalets are run by May who is a lovely lady, very friendly and helpful. May will help you with organising trips, on going travel and also local advice; she is very responsive to WhatsApp messages. The family also run Juara Ocean Restaurant and cafe which is situated at the other end of the beach, approximately 20minutes walk away. The restaurant is excellent. There are also other restaurants and a few small shops nearby. We enjoyed our time at Juara Ocean chalets so much that we extended our trip. We will definitely return."

"We stayed in the A-Frame chalet and I have to say, these chalets are in need of renovation. The first one we moved into was filthy upon arrival: mold, stains from smashed cockroaches on the wall, a very old mattress, an AC that hadn't been cleaned probably since it was installed. The room also had a ton of ants, which you might think is normal on an island, but wasn't a problem in any of the other 3 accommodations we stayed in during our time on Tioman. When we brought this up with the staff, they agreed, apologized and moved us to the another A-Frame chalet. They had no other rooms available so they couldn't upgrade us. The second chalet was marginally better but still pretty bad, full of insects, stuffy, noisy AC, dirty towels and sheets, etc. Now, the staff was understanding, friendly and accommodating and handled this very well. They offered us a full refund of unused nights if we found another accommodation, which we accepted after one night. This is not something that is common, and really stood out positively.  We also got to see the other room types and they look much more modern and clean, so this criticism  is really just of the A-frame chalet. The other services were also fine. Breakfast was OK, the service was superb, as was the location. Dinner was very good and they have pretty much the only bar in Genting. The friendly and helpful staff made a big difference. If you're staying in one of the other room types, I can recommend Dumba Bay, but the A-frames need to be renovated."

"Seriously, save yourselves the trouble and avoid this place! Japamala Resort on Tioman Island was an incredibly disappointing experience. First off, the facilities are ancient and rundown. The room lights were so dim it felt depressing, and the towels and amenities were all super old, not at all what you'd expect from a proper resort. The worst part was the ant infestation! The two Indonesian guys who cleaned our room were nice, but the hotel clearly doesn't do any pest control. At night, the bed was crawling with ants, I could feel them on my body and in my hair, it was so itchy I couldn't sleep. The hygiene here is just unbelievable. The guy at the front desk had a pretty bad attitude too, he barely bothered to answer our questions and had zero customer service awareness. To top it off, this place is on a secluded island, so you can only get around by boat. A single person round trip to the nearest spot costs 200, so for two people, you're looking at four or five hundred just for boat fares. You're basically trapped at the hotel. And dining is an even bigger rip-off. The only place to eat on the island is the hotel restaurant, a complete monopoly. We don't mind spending thousands on Michelin-starred meals, but their food was both expensive and terrible, so we ended up spending a lot for a miserable dining experience. Throughout our stay, no one told us what activities were available on the island or how to get around, absolutely no guidance whatsoever. We paid for a high-end resort experience, but got terrible accommodation, awful food, and felt ripped off on transportation. I absolutely do not recommend coming here."

"The location is in the quaint non touristy ABC village frequented exclusively by backpackers and French families. You will need to carry your baggage to the accommodation on a rough busy narrow pathway frequented by motorbike traffic upon arrival and for departure. It will cost you a minimum of 20 ringgit to go anywhere on the island by motorbike taxi or 40 ringgit to catch a water taxi so be prepared to eat the same poor quality sometimes fetid food in sweltering conditions at a limited number of restaurants in the village. Do not expect any induction at the resort unless you are not undertaking a dive course. The admin staff who checked me in didn’t even know that I had breakfast included in my rate which incidentally is served in a nearby restaurant. Don’t expect access to the pool which is the exclusive domain of the divers. You will not be allowed to join the dive resort boats if you wish to go snorkeling. Rather, you will be referred to one of two spurious snorkelling tour operators Restu Chalet and ABC chalet where the boats will be crammed full of people exceeding the licensed limits and where the boatmen will take zero safety steps to ensure your passenger safety or compliance with maritime regulations. In my case I received no support getting in and out of the boat in medium to heavy seas and was abandoned whilst snorkelling on a reef at the last stop when the captain moved the boat to the shore to party alongside a boat full of scantily clad backpackers. I ended up with heat stroke and spent the following day reporting regulatory breaches to the authorities."

"It is a really disappointed experience at the boathouse. Service is not professional in terms of house keeping. The staff left very dirty footprints in our shower room after his cleaning service, which is so disgusting. Service is not consistent in terms of standards as well. One day the waiter told us all soft drinks were free during the happy hour. Another day it changed to charge but nobody told us when we ordered. Moreover, the lady staff at front office arrogantly asked us to pay for a bill we never signed, she said it was their practice. So ridiculous! We will never be there again Btw, a lot of flyers in the restaurant of this hotel.."
