"Beautiful hotel inside and out with great gardens and pool. Drawbacks were repetitive breakfast with same cake 5 days in a row had to ask for normal things like butter and jam, indifferent service, no cereal. Too many rules with restrictive dinner hours only from 8 to 9 pm."

"I was genuinely sad to leave Solar Madariaga today, after a wonderful week-long stay. My husband and I are in the midst of a North American summer vacation trip to Chile, and we knew we wanted to spend time in Valle de Elqui. We originally reserved our room for 5 nights and quickly realized we needed longer in this amazing valley and extended our stay. The hotel is FAMILY OWNED and COMMUNITY MINDED. They care about their guests, their community, and their environment. No matter the request, everyone here went above and beyond to ensure we had what we needed-from transportation from La Serena (thank you Rubén!) to clean laundry; from a personal tour of the valley to the best bicycle tours; and everything in between. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious; meals (at Alóe Restorán) worth every penny. You MUST order the empanadas. Wow!! We like to hike, and the advice we got on hikes was spot-on. We enjoyed every one. Fernanda, Jonathan, Juan and Diego (owner) were just the best. We really can't say enough to describe how wonderful our stay was. As I said to start, I was genuinely sad to leave and continue our Chilean adventure elsewhere! I am an anxious traveler and here I felt safe. In Vicuña, at Solar Madariaga, with their advice. We miss everyone already! If we are to ever return to the Elqui Valley, we would definitely come back to Solar Madariaga. This should be your first choice when coming to Valle de Elqui. "I stayed at this "hotel" for a week at the beginning of December. It really wasn't what I expected to be honest. The owner Daniela was kind enough to actually reimburse me for part of the stay. Otherwise, for the price, it's really not worth what it is. I later looked at the other negative comments that I hadn't seen before and most of the time, unfortunately, I completely agree with what they say. The advantages: - The rooms are clean. - small but pleasant pool - you can cook in the barbecue at least: - the cubes are very small, there is no place to take clothes out of your suitcase (there is not much room for the suitcase either - Water treatment plant right next door, noisy ( 50% of the time), so if you expect to hear the sound of nature, it will be somewhere else - The kite/windsurf/WIngfoil place is only accessible by 4x4 and is less than 15 minutes away - No one at the hotel. most of the time (reception) - Photos are not up to date: the reservoir has been greatly reduced and is no longer under the hotel The view is very different today - the food truck does not operate all the time (in my case. in principle since the beginning of January) and there is no solution to order food - the change of sheets and so on was done 4 days after my arrival and at my request - there is no ventilation in the cubes - the curtain of the cubes that "separates you.
