"I stayed here for an overnight stop on a drive to Austria. I wanted somewhere in Germany but not as far as the Rhineland which is where I have generally stopped in previous years. And a hotel in an old castle sounded good. My sat-nav initially took me to the wrong hotel (my fault for not checking I had entered the correct name!) but because the castle dominates Wassenberg being on a hill in the centre, it wasn't difficult to find the correct way there. I received a very warm welcome at the reception desk and was offered an alternative room, a better one, that would avoid having to use stairs. But there seemed to have been a breakdown in communications from the booking engine as the hotel had no record of my request for half-board. However, it was not a problem for them to include it. The room was excellent and, for me, had one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. (That of course is a very subjective opinion as what to me is very comfortable might well be too hard for one person or yet too soft for another.) The hotel is partly in old castle buildings and some newer additions. I had asked to have dinner on the terrace as it was very hot but that message didn't seem to have reached the dining room from reception, but the meal was fine. I did have time for a walk around the town - I had hoped to do more but it was so hot that it was too uncomfortable to move around a lot. So there is a lot more for me still to explore. If you are feeling energetic you can ask in the hotel for the key to the old keep and climb to the top of it. My regular summing up question is "Would I choose to stay there again?" and in the case of the Burg Hotel Wassenberg the answer is a most definite yes!"

"Entire hotel was booked for our group. Hotel is not designed for folks with mobility problems as the rooms are only accessible by stairs. Pros- very quiet room, extremely clean, comfortable beds, mini-fridge with soft drinks and beer. Cons- we only saw the manager twice, both times on the day of check in. I needed some assistance but she was not there either in the morning or evening with no visible way of reaching her posted. There also were no posted fire escape signs, which seemed to indicate only one way in and out. This would be a real issue if a person was on the top floor, as we were. For us, the pros and cons carried about the same weight, so don’t know if we would come back if the hotel decision was ours to make."
