In the southern part of Yunnan lies Jingmai Mountain, home to the Bulang ethnic village of Mangjing

The World Cultural Heritage site of Jingmai Mountain, officially known as the 'Ancient Tea Plantation Cultural Landscape of Jingmai Mountain', encompasses not just the tea plantations but also 'culture', including nine traditional villages within the mountains. Previously, I have taken notes on the Dai villages of Nuogan and Jingmai, as well as the Bulang village of Wengji. Here is the Bulang village of Mangjing. Mangjing is divided into an upper and a lower village, separated by a large banyan tree known as the 'Princess Banyan' in the photo, which acts like a gate to the villages. Everyone, including vehicles, must pass under this tree, which is quite interesting. Legend has it that the 'Princess Banyan' was transformed from the hair of the seventh princess, the wife of a Bulang tribal chief. I have taken a photo of an explanatory signboard, so I'll save myself the trouble of explaining further.
