I chose this hotel for my trip to Takayama. It used to be the Wing Hotel Hida Takayama, but now it's called Koko.
**Cleanliness:** The hotel has high-legged beds, and there was dust underneath, which personally bothered me.
**Facilities:** The hotel parking requires advance reservation and has two areas: one directly under the hotel and another 500m away at a different establishment. The price is 500 yen per night. There aren't enough spaces at the hotel, so if you reserve late, you have to walk a long way to get your car, which is quite inconvenient. Additionally, the washing machines and dryers are located inside the communal hot spring bathhouse, and on the men's side, there's only one washer and one dryer, which is really too few. You often have to wait in line.
**Environment:** The location is quite peaceful, about 1km from Takayama Station.
**Service:** Overall good, but not outstanding.
Stayed for two nights. The hotel is a bit of a distance from Shirakawa-go, but they offer a free shuttle service, though the schedule isn't very frequent.
I stayed in a twin room with two 1-meter beds. The room looked decent, even better than the photos. There was enough space to open two 20-inch suitcases. As expected for Japan, the hotel was impeccably clean.
Check-in is after 3 PM, but you can store your luggage and go out to explore if you arrive early.
Check-out is at 11 AM. The onsen (hot spring) was excellent, especially the open-air bath – it was really good!
The hotel is a bit out of the way, about a 2000 JPY taxi ride from Gifu city center.
The rooms are spacious, with large bathrooms, walk-in closets, and big beds. Although a bit old, it's clean and suitable for families.
Service was just okay; we had to go to the front desk ourselves to get an extra bottle of water.
Since we were just transiting through Gifu, we only stayed for one night. I wouldn't recommend it for travelers looking for convenient access to explore Gifu.
The hotel room is spacious, cleanliness is good. Though the staff are young, they are very cheerful and helpful. First time experience to leave the shoes in the lobby locker, quite happy that the whole area is free from dust as no one can wear shoes inside. There has 3 free car parks around the hotel area for you to choose. Good location for visiting Magome-juku. Has a bundle of restaurants nearby with a nice cafe eating traditional toast. All toiletries are available at the lobby area. Worth to stay again.
Highly recommend! The entire service was excellent. As soon as we got off the bus, there's an iCafe right under the JR station where you can drop off your luggage. They then send it directly to the hotel for you. So by the time you're done exploring and ready to check in, your bags are already in your room. Plus, there's a shuttle bus every hour from 6:30 AM to 9:15 PM that picks you up and drops you off at the JR station, making the whole experience very thoughtful. The hot springs are also a highlight – there are many outdoor baths, all super relaxing. Breakfast is very substantial too; you absolutely have to try the fish and natto. The front desk staff were incredibly accommodating as well. They proactively added an extra bed for us. We're two adults and one child, and our room originally only had two standard beds, but they added another one next to them even before we checked in.
The view is awesome. So peaceful and earthy. Located on the hill, so it would be hard to walk to the ryokan with luggage, I guess. The public bath was spacious, which was great. Kaiseki dinner was so good! I've had them before at different ryokans, but this one is the best. And the server lady explained everything in English which was also a plus. It was very tasty. Breakfast was good, too. It got a bit loud from other rooms, which I expected as staying in an old building. Also, pretty cold at night (in early December), only the main room with a heater was warm. Still, it was a memorable stay in a good way.
Excellent location, right by the Takayama train station. Hotel was new with clean facilities, breakfast was really yummy. Room was reasonably sized and clean with a washer dryer. While there was no gym, the onsen facilities at the hotel were spacious and new. Outdoor onsen experience was amazing while looking at the snow outside.
Our first stop on our Nagoya trip was a bit tricky to find; the hotel signs weren't very clear, and we drove around twice before spotting it. If you're coming by JR, it's quite convenient, less than a 10-minute walk. The room was spacious with three single beds lined up, and the layout was well-designed, tidy, and clean. The hotel feels relatively new, and the facilities have a unique, designer feel. The service was standard and efficient. Breakfast is a customized set menu that you book the day before. I chose the Japanese-style one, and it was a nice experience.
Affordable, comfortable and clean This hotel is located in the city center, affordable, comfortable and clean. The room is small but warmly decorated, making people feel at home. The service staff is friendly and enthusiastic to answer guests' questions. There are many special snacks and attractions around.
The hotel was perfect with complimentary freeflow liquor including a variety of sake served every evening.
The bathing pool could be cleaner though. Otherwise, everything is good.

GGuest UserHotel and Spa Gift Takayama provided an unforgettable stay in the Japanese Alps. The location is perfect—just a short walk from the train station and the beautiful old town . Our room was spacious and immaculate, blending modern comfort with traditional touches . The highlight was absolutely the stunning rooftop onsen with incredible mountain views; it was pure bliss after a day of exploring . The staff went above and beyond, and the included breakfast featuring local Hida beef was a delicious treat . Having a relaxing spa experience right in the hotel made our visit to Takayama truly special. We cannot wait to return!

AAnonymous Userenjoyed our stay in takayama ouan with my family! the rooms are spacious for japan standards and i like how the hotel is full tatami so we can comfortably walk around barefoot or with just socks! free socks provided and unlimited pillows. the open air bath was great and there’s sauna and cold bath too. free ramen at night was delicious, breakfast was great too. won’t hesitate to book this hotel again next time!
Hhwee yin LeeA wonderful experience staying in a studio apartment with the kitchenette. You may visit the near by Boss supermarket or the other opposite supermarket to purchase hida beef and grill them in the apartment instead of eating in the grill shop. Save lots of money. So close to train station and Nohi bus terminal, less than 3 minutes walking. Easy to get around for 1 day trip like Shirakawago, Ropeway, Gero, Hirayu onsen. Staff do not speak fluent English but they do understand English. Coffee, tea are all provided in the front desk. For me, only thing that I dislike is the hard pillow. Overall excellent stay 👍.

Ppeony wooquite far from jr station
but walkable and have bus transfer service
dinner and breakfast are unexpectedly great
both enjoyed the hida wagyu so much, very tender and juicy
hotspring environment is authentic, traditional and family friendly
nearby attractions are reachable
雲雲尼王A small hot spring hotel. I really feel the hotel's care. Compared to more prosperous areas, I prefer this kind of remote small hotel. I feel that the hotel wants to do every place carefully. Although the price is cheap, there are many details. Everything is well done. For example, there is a self-service snack and drink area in the lobby, which is available 24 hours a day. Yukata for children is also provided. The hotel rooms are very clean. I wonder if they have been renovated, so the rooms are very new and clean.
11360260****My friends and I were looking for an affordable onsen hotel, which is why we chose Gero Yamagataya Onsen Hotel. First, let's talk about the pros: the price is quite reasonable for an onsen hotel, and the rooms are clean and tidy. Now for the cons: the service is a far cry from what you'd expect at a traditional Japanese onsen hotel. When we arrived at Gero Station, we saw staff from Suimeikan and Yunoshimakan holding signs to pick up guests, but after searching everywhere, there was no one from Yamagataya. We ended up waiting for 10-20 minutes and had to take a taxi to the hotel. Although it wasn't far, we didn't have to pay the taxi fare as the hotel covered it upon arrival. However, no one at the hotel entrance offered to help us with our luggage. Furthermore, the breakfast and dinner were the worst I've ever had at an onsen hotel in Japan. Breakfast felt like a staff cafeteria, with no milk or coffee even. I really regret not choosing Suimeikan or Yunoshimakan Onsen Hotel instead.
