Had a great time and enjoyed some truly stunning views 😍 The staff were lovely and friendly but at times had to request or remind them about certain things, perhaps because we’re South Asians as most guests seemed to be Western. Some amenities listed such as toothpaste, toothbrush, slippers and a razor were not provided which was a little disappointing considering the price paid. Also noticed a few stains on the toilet floor and white curtains though it wasn’t a major issue. The breakfast buffet was good but wish there had been more variety. Overall had a lovely and memorable stay and really enjoyed the trip with my best friend.
We had a truly wonderful stay at Heritance Ahungalla, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations from start to finish.
The check-in process was smooth and welcoming, and the fresh juices served upon arrival were very refreshing after the journey. The room was spotlessly clean, tidy, spacious, and well equipped with all the luxury amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The atmosphere throughout the resort had a relaxing beachside vibe, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
We also used the gym, which was properly equipped with a good range of equipment. The resort has two swimming pools, and we spent most of our time at the main pool, which was absolutely massive and perfect for relaxing.
The highlight of the stay was definitely the food experience. The dinner buffet was exceptional with an incredible variety of dishes. There were large selections of salads, appetizers, breads and buns, Sri Lankan specialties, international cuisine, and live cooking stations. The seafood and meat variety was especially impressive — including chicken, beef, pork, cuttlefish, prawns, fish, and many other seafood dishes, with multiple preparations for each. My personal favorite was the pork leg, which was incredibly delicious, tender, and flavorful.
The dessert corner was huge, offering plenty of choices and beautifully presented sweets.
After a very comfortable night’s sleep, we went for breakfast, and honestly, it was just as impressive as dinner. The breakfast buffet included a massive spread with salad stations, bakery items, fresh fruits, Sri Lankan and international breakfast options, live stations, and an amazing juice bar with around 7–8 varieties of fresh juices. They also had a dedicated cheese section, multiple yogurt options, and even 4–5 types of porridges, which was something unique and very well done.
Overall, Heritance Ahungalla offers a fantastic combination of luxury, comfort, delicious food, and relaxing coastal ambience. Everything from the service to the dining and facilities was excellent. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable beach getaway in Sri Lanka! 🌴✨
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by wonderfully friendly staff at the reception desk, and our positive impression continued when we saw our room. It was incredibly spacious and spotlessly clean and a perfect space to relax in.
Unfortunately, our enthusiasm dipped when we looked out the window. We had eagerly anticipated the sea view we booked, but found ourselves on the first floor looking directly onto the main path to the restaurant. The lack of both a view and privacy was a real disappointment.
The challenges were compounded by a local festival taking place during our stay. This rendered the beach unusable due to the sheer volume of people. Worse, the road closures made leaving the hotel a logistical headache, leaving us feeling a bit trapped. A final frustration was discovering there were no shops nearby and no convenience store in the hotel itself, so be sure to pack everything you might need.
In summary, while we can't fault the hotel on its cleanliness or the friendliness of its staff, the experience was significantly hampered by the room mix-up and the festival chaos. It wasn’t a bad stay, but it was far from the relaxing getaway we had planned.
Overall, we liked the hotel. Located in the small CoCobay Bay. Around the silence, only disrupted by the noise of waves, constantly rolling on the shore. The hotel is small - only 16 rooms, so the situation is chamber, almost family. Guests have a measured pace of rest - breakfast, beach, afternoon rest and beach again. In the evening dinner on the menu. And if breakfast in the hotel is modest and uniform, the kitchen is able to surprise at dinner. The main dish is distinct from a beautiful feed and always delicious. And the menu every day is new.
The rooms are large, all with ocean view. The air conditioner works well. You get tired of the sun even in the shadow, so you enjoy the room at noon.
Hotel is mainly for family couples and families with children. Some parents pay for children's surfing lessons here because compared to other beaches here, the soft wave is not deep. The surfing board can be rented here at the hotel. Another plus hotel - there are no sellers of all kinds. The lying vacationers are closely monitored. You can leave a phone in the bag and go swimming, and go back to the Internet, lying on a cheeslong
There is a minus that is not noticed - a river falls in the ocean next to the hotel and after the rain it carries brown water in it. So clean and transparent water you will not see here. And here on the main beach in Unawatun water is just a pleasant blue-turquoise color. Maybe in the dry season the water in CoCoBay Bay looks different, but we were in October and rains went here every day.
Absolutely loved this hotel! The natural environment here is fantastic. It's just a 10-15 minute drive from Tissa Lake. I arrived in the morning to the peaceful sounds of crickets and frogs. It was also a full moon that night, which made the scenery even more stunning. The swimming pool is impressively large too. I stayed on the ground floor, which meant I could step right out onto the lawn from my room.
The hotel offers great value for money; the prices are reasonable and the rooms are quite spacious. It's noticeably cheaper than hotels situated closer to Yala National Park.
I highly recommend booking the breakfast and dinner package. There aren't many other dining options nearby, and more importantly, the buffet is absolutely delicious!!! They offer a great variety of Western dishes, incredibly sweet fruits, and even sushi, making it very suitable for the Chinese palate.
For our morning safari, we requested a packed meal from the hotel. It was incredibly generous, including water, various drinks, juice, sandwiches, and cake – truly more than we could finish! Upon our return, breakfast was still ongoing. I explained to a staff member that I was feeling quite hot and asked if I could get a drink. She was very accommodating, assuring me it was absolutely fine, but did clarify that since we had taken a packed breakfast, we wouldn't be able to have another full meal in the dining area.
Loved the location, which is within short walking distance to the Galle lighthouse. But what I loved the most was the modern interiors of this Art Deco building . Our room was well designed and clean, complete with a bathtub and lovely marble finishing. I personally felt that the bed was one of the most comfortable I experienced during my week in Sri Lanka. I also enjoyed the sunset views from the rooftop bar and the pool, even though a little small was great for cooling down after exploring the old town on foot. My only comment would be that the shower amenities weren't in a good place, could easily slip during shower time.
Breakfast had an option of either local fare (to be prebooked) and western fare which was tasty. Definitely one of the highlights of our stay in Sri Lanka.

I had a wonderful stay at Elaya Resort Unawatuna. The hotel is beautifully designed with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. The rooms were spacious, modern, and exceptionally clean. The swimming pools and common areas were excellent, making it a perfect place to relax.
What made the experience truly special was the warm hospitality of the staff. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. The service and staff were amazing — always smiling, friendly, and ready to assist at any time. Their kindness and professionalism made our stay even more enjoyable.
The food was delicious, and the breakfast offered a great variety of fresh options. The location is ideal, close to Unawatuna Beach while still providing a quiet and relaxing environment.
I highly recommend Elaya Resort Unawatuna to anyone looking for a luxurious and memorable stay in Sri Lanka. I would definitely love to visit again. Thank you to the entire team for making us feel welcome and well taken care of!
The hotel is in a great location, right by the sea. You can see surfers and swim directly in the sea. The swimming pool in the backyard is also very large, but the facilities are relatively old and the staff speak loudly in the corridor.

WWudianxiadechongerVery close to the beach, the day before the hotel was very late at about nine o'clock, I fell asleep directly. I woke up in the morning and saw the blue sky and sea. I was in a very good mood. There seem to be many Russians in the hotel, and the restaurant also specially put a Russian menu. My favorite is the early morning pool, the private venue, casual swimming, the deepest is about two meters, great. The breakfast is also very good, except for the local curry, I can accept it, the papaya is very sweet. Be sure to stay for two more days next time.
MMonika121196We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, we were quickly settled and met with a welcome drink. The staff were very friendly, but the rest of the hotel staff were very strangely behaving(noisy, shouting, arguing among themselves).
Our room was clean and clean, the room was a large balcony as well
big refrigerator. Very good was water pressure in the shower. The hotel location is also excellent (through the road beach, 5 minutes walk to the grocery store) Fear the mafia of Tuckers

GGuest UserSet a quadruple room, in fact, can live 6 or 7 people no problem 😄 The hotel is located on the edge of the lake. Since we are going to Yarra National Park to see wildlife the next morning, the store packed breakfast for us very early.
FFrankThe hotel is well-known, a little old, but the area and overall atmosphere are normal. The price/quality ratio is reasonable. An excellent restaurant overlooking the ocean and a very strange restaurant where breakfast and dinner are held (reviews on Google maps) confirm this. The beach is a little dirty, but this is not a problem of the hotel but of the local population in general.
GGuest UserOutpost is really good choice for Weligama trip during the season. Next to the quiet part of thr beach, tasty (but not cheap) cafe, comfortable rooms and very helpfull staff, strong wifi.
But for offseason could be a bit offsided. No cafe around, nothing on the beach, need to walk to any store or activity.
Several points to make your stay more comfortable:
1. Roomservice upon request
2. In beachfront rooms the beds are not fixed to tables behind them (as you see on foto). So be carefull, it moves =)
3. Ask about foot shower location in front of the hotel. It's a bit hidden.
JJD75Minimalistic hotel rooms well located off Silent Beach in Tangalle. Nice communal pool and a small amount of rooms makes the villa quite tranquil and never busy. The staff are wonderful and the chef cooks delicious food which is all very reasonably priced. I just recommend you stay away from beef in this country as it’s quite inedible, this seems a common theme whether you’re buying a cheap burger or an expensive beef dish. The only detractions to the accomodation was a foul odour emanating from the shower in the mornings, but it did dissipate thereafter. Also I find there is little point of an in-room safe if it isn’t bolted to the ground. You can literally walk in and pick the safe up and exit the room making it redundant. Rooms are well appointed and well priced for the area given the two luxury alternatives are the Amanwella resort which is quite dated and much more expensive and the Anantara Peace Haven which is more expensive but also a fantastic product. The local beach here is beautiful. I would stay here again, but I expect rooms will be hard to come by as the country lacks 5 star resorts at this time. I would stay here again no doubt and recommend the property.
MM445002****As one of Sri Lanka's top luxury hotels, the Shangri-La maintains excellent hygiene and safety standards; sniffer dogs conduct luggage searches before entry. The Shangri-La's breakfast and dinner buffets are well-suited to Chinese tastes. The beach is also beautiful.
