The hotel was clean and in a great location for the reason I was in Birmingham. It was near to the event that I was attending. The sink in my room had a stopper that prevented the water from escaping when I did not want it to collect in the sink during activities such as brushing my teeth and washing my face. The water was also cold and took an excessively long time to heat up even a little bit. It was not even lukewarm. Therefore, I checked out and was unable to shower. My son actually took a cold shower on a cold day, one of the coldest that we have had in Alabama in a while. I was also awakened by an emergency message and alarm to vacate the building due to an emergency only to learn later that it was a test. I learned this when the fire truck arrived and I heard an employee apologizing for not calling them to let them know that it was only a test. I only stayed overnight so there was no other opportunity for me to get a better impression. The only reason that I did not give a lower rating for the facilities is because once I reported the issue with the shower and sink, they sent a handy man to the room to make the repairs, but my son was already taking a cold shower at the time since we were scheduled to get back home to meet previously scheduled obligations. The staff person who was checking me out said that she couldn't do anything for me because I booked through a third party. However, she did state that she would refund the money that I paid for parking.

This is possibly the nastiest hotel ever. I wasn't expecting much, but I wasn't expecting nasty, either. I've stayed in Econo Lodges before that were much better. This one is a few steps below a non-remodeled Motel 6. The best feature was the security guard! I've uploaded a photo of my dirty footprints after stepping on the bath matt at the shower. This is the perfect example of the filth! No vending machines worked as the staff told me someone broke into them and they aren't fixed yet. Bed was uncomfortable. Cops stopping people in driveway. Water blisters in roof from leaks. Buildings in horrible condition. TV barely worked with so much snow on the screen from a horrible signal. Just a few channels. Not even a coffeepot or iron. If it wasn't storming when I walked into my room i would've left.

First and foremost, every single person we encountered at this location was just phenomenal, especially the gentlemen at the desk. The housekeeping team came by every single day to grab our used towels and trash & give us anything we needed from coffee to towels. They were so sweet. The beach access was fantastic as well. The only “complaints” we had weren’t bothersome enough to us to task the staff with. While they should be considered basic maintenance, we understand that this hotel is still undergoing repair from a hurricane, and they seem to be training new team members all while staying very busy. But here they are: The location of the pool is actually really neat, but we didn’t really care for the he fact that it drains on all of the vehicles parked on either side of the covered entrance. There are definitely not enough elevators for the traffic. Thankfully, we were on the 2nd floor, so it didn’t kill our bad knees to climb the stairs, and we needed the exercise anyway. The bathroom door in our room didn’t latch or lock, but it closed and we lived. The lights in the pool never came on. That kind of sucked at night. The phone in our room didn’t work. Not even a dial tone. Now, this part was pretty worrisome as there were heavy storms, and the he office wouldn’t have been able to contact us if we needed to evacuate. There was no dial tone, but it seemed to be plugged in somewhere. We just weren’t able to trace the cord. The fridge light didn’t work. But it was an actual fridge, which was very much welcomed. We had expected a mini. Not our worst trip ever. It blows my mind that people get on here fussing about a hotel near the beach having tile flooring…… and some sand….. It’s like glitter. No matter how much you clean, you’ll never get rid of all of it. Also, to the young lady at the desk who kept her cool and showed grace to the D-Bag YELLING (my daughter got video) about a refund, you’re the real MVP and definitely a better person than me. 😉

Upon arrival, the lobby with the fireplace makes a very warm and pleasant impression. The hotel room is very neat and very clean. Room is in pleasant, bright colors. Pictures complete the good first impression. Some things make a very high-quality impression, for example the faucet in the bathroom. I missed a USB plug, which is more and more often placed in lamps or next to the bed to charge the cell phone. The only, but big point of criticism was the breakfast. I looked for coffee cups in vain. I had to ask the staff twice until it was noticed that the disposable cups were used up. Coffee very good. The selection is not very large, comparably much less than in comparable hotels. The orange juice was very negative, probably a cheap product, also with an aftertaste. After it is now common, there are no hot, instead only ”warm” scrambled eggs. Only these were not even warm, in the spectrum between warm and cold rather cold to be counted and therefore hardly to be enjoyed. Since the breakfast can not be rated separately, I have to think about what my rating should be. Because certainly hotel guests without breakfast are well accommodated here.

We got to the hotel and we did not have any hot water in our room, so the hotel switched our room saying it was just a problem with the one room, when in fact the entire hotel did not have any hot water. So we all had to take showers in ice cold water. They did not offer us a refund where we could go and stay in another hotel either. It was pretty much sorry, but oh, well. The hotel was really nice and clean, but people go to a hotel for a place to sleep and shower when traveling. Paying a $169 and then having to take ice cold showers is completely unacceptable! And they fact that they knew they had a problem with their hot water and did nothing to attempt to remedy that until the next day after everyone checked out is even more unacceptable. The appropriate reaction would have been to refund our money so that we could find another hotel that offered hot water. It’s a miserable experience after you have had a really long day and you are dirty and just want a hot shower to then have to bathe in ice cold water. It wasn’t even lukewarm.

My wife and I booked this hotel for a weekend getaway. As Platinum Elite members, we've stayed at many IHG properties. This hotel definitely does not measure up to IHG standards. We arrived tired after a long day of travel and checked in. The front desk clerk was very friendly and kind. The elevator was incredibly loud and barely functioned. The room we were given was shabby and the shower was stained. But the real issue began when, two doors down the hallway, a dog started barking continuously. The barking didn't stop so we called the front desk and were told the family left the dog behind to go to dinner. So this barking was going to continue indefinitely. The clerk kindly offered to move us to a different room, which we accepted. The 2nd room smelled strongly of mold. I have a severe mold allergy so we couldn't stay here. The clerk then showed us a room across the hall, where we discovered the carpets were still damp following a carpet cleaning. No fans had been brought in to dry the carpet. Even the clerk commented that this should have been done. The clerk then offered to check on another room that we could stay in. When she returned, she said she had to check THREE rooms to find one where the carpets weren't wet. In the room she gave us, the A/C wasn't working, which is a deal-breaker for Alabama in August. Frustrated, exhausted, at our wits end, we just decided to leave. We've never had to leave a property before. After 30 minutes on the phone with IHG, we managed to get a refund. Thankfully we found another, much nicer Holiday Inn Express we could stay at to finally get some rest. We were very upset by this experience and my wife even broke down in tears with frustration and disappointment. This hotel is poorly managed and maintained and is nowhere close to other HIE we've stayed at. I should have read the other reviews more closely and found a different hotel. What a disaster.

After leaving a monumentally disgusting hotel an hour away; we arrived here happily, during christmas break on our way to florida. The front desk man from Nepal was great-very friendly. Check in was a breeze. The room was ok & no carpet! I love that. It was fairly clean. I noticed palm prints on the headboard. Ok, so yeppers we are human animals after all-but puleeez clean off your furniture once in a while. Bathroom was ok i never looked in shower as i don't use them in hotels! Gross. No breakfast was offered. Hallways were not remodeled as the rooms were. You could tell it was old original RRI carpet and halls. But room was adequate, updated and clean. Bed was very comfie and 4 pillows on one bed. Fridge/microwave was included. All in all We were happy to lay down for the night here after roach hotel in LaGrande GA that charged MORE than this one. Thanks!
