Hakone Hotel Kowakien, a natural onsen hotel offering dinner and breakfast that I'd rate 90 out of 100. It's not easy to impress me in Hakone, the famed hot spring town in Kanagawa Prefecture, but this hotel truly excelled across all criteria, showing a consistently high standard. Both the front desk and restaurant staff were attractive, with fluent English and standard accents; notably, they didn't employ any Southeast Asian staff. The hotel facilities are relatively new and well-designed, and the cleanliness is exceptional. The public areas offer plenty of sofa seating, and the temperature control is precise, allowing guests to comfortably wander around in traditional yukata without feeling cold. The air is fresh with no strong artificial scents, embodying a 'Natural and Pure' concept.
The restaurant, named Fontainebleau, lives up to its name with authentic French pastries. The 'all-you-can-eat' style still maintains high-quality ingredients, and there's an unlimited supply of Sapporo Asahi draft beer and Gekkeikan sake. What's more, the self-service alcohol bar is also open during breakfast, which seems quite common for Japanese guests – their physical resilience certainly differs from ours! Observing Japanese dining concepts, you'll notice several characteristics: a wide variety of dishes, comprehensive nutrition, low-temperature preservation, minimal oil and seasoning, and avoiding high-temperature cooking to prevent nutrient loss.
The sauna is also quite professional, featuring a 12-minute sand timer, anti-scald mats, humidity and temperature displays, and powerful heating elements that ensure you won't waste any time. Whether you prefer mountain views, garden vistas, or indoor hot springs, there's an option for everyone.

The overall cleanliness was good, but because the room was mainly black, the dust on the walls (especially on the top) was a bit noticeable.
Also, the lighting was a bit dim, making it difficult to put on makeup.
Other than that, it was very good. The bathroom was spacious, and I was surprised to find a place that wasn't a unit bath for this price.
This five-star hotel in Yokohama truly redefines luxury with its impeccable details and sophisticated ambiance. Every moment, from check-in to check-out, was a delightful surprise, making it my top recommendation for anyone visiting Yokohama—a true hidden gem!
The hotel's location is absolutely superb, nestled in the charming, exotic Yamashita-cho. It's within walking distance of Yokohama Station and close to popular attractions like Minato Mirai 21 and the Red Brick Warehouse. Getting to Chinatown and Sankeien Garden is also incredibly convenient, making it perfect for both sightseeing and business trips. What truly captivated me was its ”East-meets-West” design philosophy. Inspired by Yokohama's port-opening culture, it beautifully blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern Western design. The art installations adorning the lobby and the Samurai-inspired screen headboards in the guest rooms exude a subtle yet refined elegance, allowing you to feel a sense of vintage charm amidst the contemporary surroundings.

The hotel was located a bit further out from the main attractions. However, with that its also at a quieter area and nice break away from the touristy area. Because of the location, it is also convenient to get to the Gotemba outlet mall. There’s a mountain view outside the balcony. A convenience store and bus stop just right outside the hotel. We felt the breakfast served was underwhelming, and the same food was served on the 2 days we were there.
The hotel was spacious and really clean, interior design was beautiful. The hotspring was really nice as well.
The staff recommended the Izakaya restaurant called Monta, just few minutes walk from the hotel. The food was really good and open till 12am!

Had a great stay at Hotel Suiun in Hakone! It was my first time staying in a ryokan, and the experience was amazing. The dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the onsen was super relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Really enjoyed everything here — would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Hakone!
I stayed at Yokohama Washington Sakuragicho for two nights at the end of my Japan autumn trip. The hotel is close to the JR line, only about a 5-minute walk, which makes it a convenient base for traveling around. The room size is standard for Japan, and choosing a room with a bay view is definitely worth it.
The staff were professional and helped arrange an early-morning taxi to take me to YCAT, where I caught a bus to Haneda Airport—only about 30 minutes away by bus. Although the hotel is a bit outdated, it is very clean. I recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again when I return to Yokohama.
A charming small hotel with a Japanese-style atmosphere. Located in a residential district of Kawasaki, about a 10-minute walk from the train and metro stations. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated in traditional Japanese style, featuring a raised futon bed. The large bathroom includes a whirlpool bathtub. Slippers, a bathrobe, and a Japanese kimono for walking around the property are provided in the room. The hotel does not have a traditional reception desk. On the ground floor, there's a cozy lounge where breakfast is served (simple pre-set meals—miso soup and a rice sandwich). A unique feature is the 24-hour access to a selection of several types of sake, drinks, juices, craft beer, and hot snacks in the hotel lobby—all included in the room rate. In summary, a modern hotel with authentic Japanese flair and the added bonus of free sake tasting. Highly recommended.

This hotel is right next to Lake Ashi, just a few minutes' walk from the shore. Outside the lobby, there's a hot spring foot bath where you can relax your body and mind after a day of sightseeing. The rooms are clean and tidy, and the bedding is soft and comfortable. There's also a small shop in the lobby selling Hakone specialties. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets offer a wide variety of dishes; I particularly enjoyed a certain grilled fish, and the desserts were plentiful – it was a feast for both the eyes and the palate! I hope to visit again. The hotel is very close to Togendai Ropeway Station and the Togendai Pirate Ship pier, just about a 7-8 minute walk from the back exit, making it very convenient for transportation.
Room facilities: The room was quite spacious. The only minor inconvenience was a step in the bathroom, but overall the facilities were pretty good and well-equipped. Breakfast was simple but very affordable.
Hygiene: Good, quite clean.
Environment: The location is excellent, very close to the JR station, and the area is bustling with various shopping malls, restaurants, convenience stores, and arcades.
Service: Very good, self-service was well-implemented.
The location is very centralize and near to restaurants and shopping streets in Yokohama.
The staff are very polite and very helpful, which make me feel very privileged.
The room is clean and ecologically following the nature saving regilayions.

GGuest UserBecause it was close to Togendai Port, we took the hotel's shuttle bus! It was the best. It was the best hot spring trip, as I could enjoy the open-air hot springs in peace. It was the best. The accommodations were cheaper than the surrounding area, but I was impressed by the high-quality hot springs and great location. It was the best.
Mmicha. When I arrived, I enjoyed getting color 々 such as amenities and welcome drinks.
The room was clean and the bath was large, and the sunrise was seen from the window of the room in the morning.
I thought it was not enough for one night in a room that I wanted to stay at the hotel all the time, so I want to go again.
The location was good to walk to enoshima.
At check-out, they prepared a shuttle car and sent me to a nearby station. Thank you for the wonderful service until the end.
GGuest UserThe hotel is cheap and good. It should be said that the room size is the largest among Japanese hotels. The room is clean and tidy, with complete facilities. There is a mountain view outside the window, and the field of vision is relatively wide. It is relatively comfortable to live there. As the flight was delayed, it was already early in the morning when we arrived at the hotel, but the staff was still very welcoming. It's just that the hotel does not have Chinese service, so you need to know a little Japanese to communicate.
~~yida~(Lurking)The environment is very good, the hotel is a pleasant experience on the mountain. There are indoor hot springs in all rooms. We live in Room 11 and have a lot of space about 35 square meters. There is a lounge for a smooth drink and food in the hotel, and the breakfast is very good. Will come again next time.
