The Mutianyu Great Wall represents the finest section of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. Stretching east to Gubeikou and west to Juyong Pass, it has served as a crucial military stronghold defending the capital since ancient times. Featuring attractions like the Zhenguan Tower, Great Corner Tower, and Eagle Flies Backward viewpoint, this well-preserved section perfectly embodies the ancient charm of the Great Wall, holding profound historical significance and exceptional cultural value.

In 1987, the Mutianyu Great Wall was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 2000, the Huairou District People's Government decided to transform the Mutianyu Great Wall into a scenic area. On May 25, 2006, the Great Wall, including the Mutianyu section, was designated by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as part of the sixth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level, while also being incorporated into the fifth batch's Great Wall designation. In 2011, the Mutianyu Great Wall was rated as a AAAAA-level tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration.
