The Badaling Great Wall is renowned as one of the nine most formidable passes under heaven, blending majestic ruggedness with lush greenery, representing the essence of the Ming Great Wall scenery. As the saying goes, "He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true hero," making it the top choice for many Chinese visitors to experience this iconic landmark.
The Badaling Great Wall's fortress is trapezoidal in shape, narrower on the east side and wider on the west, with two gates—one on the east and one on the west. The east gate bears the inscription "Juyong Outer Town," while the west gate is inscribed "Northern Gate Key." The section of the wall extending north from the fortress is the North Wall, featuring 12 watchtowers. To the south lies the South Wall, with seven watchtowers. The South Wall typically sees fewer visitors compared to the North Wall. If time permits, it's recommended to explore the South Wall first before heading to the North Wall.

In addition to the main gate, you can also access the Great Wall at South Tower 4, North Tower 4, North Tower 8, and North Tower 11. Among these, North Tower 8 is the highest watchtower on the Badaling Great Wall, also known as the "Sunrise Viewing Platform." Located over 1,500 meters from the main gate, it offers an excellent vantage point to overlook the Great Wall.
Take the cableway
Cable cars are also available at South Tower 4 and North Tower 8. Visitors who prefer not to walk can take the cable car directly to the watchtower and return via cable car after their visit. This saves energy and makes the experience more enjoyable.
