Historically, the first couple weeks of June is a changing of the seasons in the mountain parks. The last of the winter ice has melted off the lakes, revealing pristine lakes with jaw-dropping reflections. Wildlife is in abundance with elk, moose, & bear sightings common, including newborn offspring. Waterfalls are at their highest flow for the season with the mountain runoff, and alpine wildflowers start to bloom. Jasper in June is one of the best locations and months for shooting in the Rockies, and it falls just before the massive Summer crowds start to appear.
The landscape in Jasper after the 2024 wildfires is a powerful blend of beauty and devastation - raw, dramatic, and moving. Charred trees stand like sculptures against vibrant new growth, creating striking contrasts that offer endless opportunities for abstract compositions and creative storytelling. The textures, tones, and layers left behind by the fire reveal a different kind of wilderness: hauntingly beautiful, resilient, and evolving. It's a place where photographers can capture not just scenic grandeur, but the emotional weight of a landscape in transition, full of artistic potential.
During this 5 day/4 night workshop you will learn how to compose, shoot and deliver top-notch images that you will be proud of. The workshop is limited to just 7 participants to ensure everyone receives hands-on guidance from the workshop instructors. The instructor will guide you through their processes, from preparation to execution in the field. Master concepts such as focus stacking, long exposure through the proper use of neutral density filters, bracketing, metering a scene correctly, and much more!

We’ll explore a diverse range of stunning locations throughout Jasper National Park - hand-picked by your instructor, who brings years of experience photographing in the area. To make the most of the best light, our shoots will be scheduled around golden hours at sunrise and sunset. However, we will adjust the timing the best utilize the weather windows and conditions. In June, sunsets occur just after 10 p.m., with lingering light until nearly midnight, and sunrise is around 5:30 a.m. Blue hours are stunning in the Rockies, and our shoots may extend into he night when the stars come out. The days are very long in Northern Alberta, and twilight remains through most of the night, but it is still possible to view the moon and stars. So prepare to have some short nights at your hotel - but don't worry, you’ll have downtime during the day to rest and recharge between shoots.
Our workshop begins with a welcome and orientation at Becker’s Chalets on the afternoon of Day 1. About a month before the workshop, participants will receive a brief questionnaire to help tailor instruction to individual goals and skill levels.This experience is open to all photographers - from beginners wanting to build confidence to advanced shooters refining specific techniques. Instruction will be customized to your needs.
Wildlife photography will be part of the workshop if opportunities arise to observe animals safely and respectfully. Your instructor will guide you through ethical practices, including Parks Canada’s regulations and how to ensure wildlife remains undisturbed.

Registration is non-refundable but is transferrable if you can find someone to take your spot and buy your ticket from you. Email monika@monikadeviatphotography.com to confirm a transfer.
If the remaining balance is not paid in full, your spot will be forfeit without any refund of deposits or payments already made.
Participants understand that weather and conditions are unpredictable or difficult to forecast. There is no guarantee that we will see specific natural phenomena. You acknowledge that travel with a group involves compromise to accommodate goals, desires, personalities, abilities, and physical capabilities. Itineraries are planned, but flexible, and no part of the schedule can be guaranteed. You understand that no discounts or refunds will be given in the event of any changes.
Only in the event that the country or the venue is unable to host the workshop (such as a lockdown situation), participants will be given the option to postpone or receive a refund.
Please ensure you can travel and abide by all health and safety travel recommendations for British Columbia and your home location if you are booking a spot. It is your responsibility to ensure you can make the workshop. Participants must have travel and medical insurance.
Workshop price only covers the services specifically listed. All other costs and expenses are the participants responsibility. Additional expenses caused by delays, accidents, or disruptions are the responsibility of the participant.
Monika Deviat Photography reserves the right to cancel the workshop at any time. The cancellations could occur for a variety of reasons, such as a minimum number of participants is not met, family emergency, unforeseen circumstances impact the worksop, etc. In the event of cancellations that are under the control of Monika Deviat Photography, participants will receive a full refund for the workshop. No compensation would be made to participants for any other associated costs such as, but not limited to, travel, hotels, etc. Participants should have travel insurance.
You, for yourself, your heirs, executors or anyone else who may claim on your behalf, hereby waive, release and forever discharge, Monika Deviat/Monika Deviat Photography, assistants, and affiliates, representatives, executors, and all others from any and all responsibilities or liability from personal injury, death, damage to property or loss of any kind resulting from participation in a photography workshop event.
This release extends and applies to, and also covers and includes all unknown, unforeseen, unanticipated and unsuspected injuries, damages, loss and liability. You are responsible to research the event and bring the proper gear. You are also responsible for selecting activities that are appropriate your physical abilities and interests. You must disclose every matter concerning your physical health, mental health, and physical fitness of which you are aware and could be relevant to your ability to participate in the workshop.
