Shima Yamaguchikan ★★★
"This was my first experience with a semi-open-air onsen in Japan, and it had a wonderful nostalgic charm. The environment was peaceful and comfortable, with the inn surrounded by a forest. I was fine with a few small insects passing by. The Kaiseki dinner had a great variety of ingredients. They also had staff who spoke English, which was a big plus! It's definitely best if you're driving. I would go again!"
Kusatsu Onsen Boun ★★★★
"Beautiful, great service, super clean & comfortable hotel which sets it's standard really high. Everything was superb from the lobby to the room to the restaurants, and to the onsen. Quality meals are served with their hearts & the quality is too much for me. Our room was really huge. There are 3 different onsen rooms with indoor & outdoor pools. However, the outdoor pools do not give you any views since they bamboo-fenced the surrounding. Parking is free and it is only 2 mins walk down the slope to reach Kusatsu town centre. A minimum 2N stay is recommended."
Kusatsu Onsen-Kusatsu Hotel 1913 ★★★★
"Easy to get to from bus station, in house onsen, their service is really top notch. There isn’t much to pick on!"
Kusatsu Onsen-Kanemidori Ryokan ★★★★
"I booked a Western-style room on the platform, but upon arrival at the hotel, I found it wasn't the room I booked. I immediately contacted the hotel, but they claimed that a Japanese-style room with two futons was a Western-style room. I confirmed with the platform that the hotel had indeed made a mistake, but the hotel manager came twice and insisted there was no error. I showed him my room confirmation from the platform before they finally adjusted the room. The whole process took almost 30 minutes to get to my room. The hotel manager was clearly deliberately giving me a lower-priced room to collect a higher price, as my room cost over 600 RMB more than the room they arranged. 2. The door to the women's bathhouse had been broken for a long time; it could only be entered sideways and couldn't be opened fully. 3. The service was poor. They didn't greet guests. I only encountered a staff member by chance in the hallway, and after missing them, they suddenly remembered and turned back to ask if I needed any snacks in my room. Quite amusing, isn't it? If I hadn't encountered them, would they have stopped asking about my needs? Fortunately, the platform was very supportive throughout the process, communicating online multiple times, calling several times, and even offering a discount. I'm very grateful. 🙏"
Kusatsu Onsen Futabaya ★★★
"Very good location. Near the bus terminal and very near the central area. Very clean room and orgnised. Private onsen for personal use."
Tokinoniwa ★★★★
"Overall, Kizunoniwa is definitely better than Konoha. Dinner was a delicious Japanese meal served in a private dining room, and breakfast was also good. My only minor complaint was that the rice wasn't quite up to Japanese standards. The location is quite far out. If you're heading to Ueno Station in the city, leaving the hotel at 9 AM and having a smooth journey, you'd likely arrive around 1 PM. The hotel shuttle takes ten minutes to the bus stop, then it's an hour and a half by bus to Karuizawa, and another hour-plus from Karuizawa to Ueno. The main delays are due to waiting for various connection times. It snowed on our second day, which was truly beautiful. I'd love to come back during autumn leaf season if possible."
Manza Kogen Hotel ★★★
"We had a wonderful stay at Manza Kogen Hotel. Its mountain location offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature. The onsen facilities were excellent, with a variety of hot spring baths that were both relaxing and enjoyable. The breakfast was also very good, featuring a delicious selection of traditional Japanese cuisine that gave us a great start to each day. The only downside was the lack of Wi-Fi in our room, which made it inconvenient to stay connected. However, this was a minor issue compared to the overall experience. Overall, Manza Kogen Hotel is a great choice for anyone looking for a quiet mountain retreat with excellent hot springs and authentic Japanese hospitality."
HAJIMARINOYADO D'LL ★★
Konoha ★★★★
"Facilities: Very comprehensive, most common amenities are available, but some in-room facilities are a bit old. Hygiene: No major issues, overall feeling was good. You even have to take off your shoes before entering the hotel, and you can wear socks throughout the entire hotel. Environment: Beautiful views and great hotel design, plus very attractive private hot spring landscaping. I think it met my expectations. Service: Nothing exceptionally special, but everyone was very enthusiastic in providing service, which I really appreciated."

Hotel Spax Kusatsu
"The staff were amazing, incredibly helpful and spoke English well. The onsens at the hotel were also great, the open air switches between female and male eaxh day though as they only have one open air onsen"
Hotel Sakurai
"The hotel is good, especially its onsen and food (both dinner and breakfast). I would return to this hotel again when I come to Kusatsu."
Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Village
"A very pleasant trip."
Shima Tamura
"For me, free-flowing baths are important, so this is an inn I've always wanted to stay at in Shima Onsen, which has a lot of hot water. The baths were free-flowing, and the hot springs were great. The baths that are switched for men and women were very warm when I went in, which was disappointing, but my husband said it was just right when he went in. The corridors and facilities feel old, but the room wasn't that bad. We stayed at Suiyokukan, so the baths were a long way away, and it was a bit of a hassle to change elevators. If you're staying at Mokuyokukan, it seems like it would be more convenient to go to the baths. There was no information on parking or how to get to the room, so considering the price, I think the hospitality could be a little better."
Kusatsu Onsen Eidaya
"The room is spacious and the private bath is very clean"
Conifer Iwabitsu

"It was a short trip of 2 days and 1 night, but the service and room were excellent!! The hot spring was also very pleasant and I was able to relieve my everyday fatigue. I would definitely like to stay here again!"
Kamenoi Hotel Kusatsu Resort(Old:Kusatsu-Onsen Hotel Resort)
"The service was very enthusiastic. The flat parking lot was very convenient. Every day there was a shuttle bus to take guests to the hot spring area, pedestrian street attractions. The buffet breakfast and dinner were very rich, with many delicious options. The hot springs were excellent. However, there's a very slippery step when entering the hot spring pool. I personally witnessed people slipping and falling hard there for two consecutive days. This really should be improved, as personal safety measures are very important."
Matsumuraya Ryokan
"Super cozy ryokan with a nice little onsen. Large rooms with private toilet. The location is fantastic, as it is a 3-minute walk from the square with the hot springs. Our host was really nice and helpful. He made our beds beautifully while we were out in the city, which has a lot to offer in terms of sightseeing and good food. We ate tempura fried local mushrooms at Kamon, which is definitely worth a recommendation. We felt really comfortable in the city and at our ryokan."
Daitokan
"First off, the room was really spacious, and the hot spring was excellent. The breakfast had a great variety, and the service was warm and attentive. The hotel's location is fantastic, just a few steps from Yubatake, and there are many restaurants downstairs. The hotel facilities are comprehensive, and transportation is convenient."
KusatsuOnsen AeruyadoTakamatsu
"The hotel is beautifully decorated, has a balcony, and is very clean. The location is excellent too; you can walk to the nearby Tatsu no Yu hot spring, which has superb water quality 👍🏼. The room has a tatami floor, and the TV has Netflix, though it's a bit small. It's great that the front desk staff speak Mandarin and English."
