"We stayed December 2024 in the very private Cocoa Cabin. Breakfast was varied each day and was exceptional (hot Chocolate from the cocoa for their yard). It was a nice treat not to have to share any walls with other guests (just the sounds of frogs at night and birds in the morning). At night we could look for frogs in the garden with the owner. The place was very clean and comfortable. The hosts were very warm and we loved learning about Costa Rica culture. Shower is hot water on demand, so you could change the temperature to hot or cooler on the shower dial (based on the season). Small kitchen with the necessary basics was included. They only recommended tours and restaurants they were familiar with and approved. Close to a lovely national park with waterfalls, all sorts of tours are available in this area and better than Monteverde with wildlife abundant (we saw 2 and 3 toed sloths, toucans, frogs in the garden). Wifi connection was consistent. I would go back in a heartbeat."

Mei Tai Cacao Lodge ★★★

"Stay at Finca Mei Tai if you want an authentic stay in Costa Rica close to the Tenorio national park and Rio Celeste. You will feel like part of the family when you leave. This is not a place for you if you want ultra luxurious air-conditioned accommodations. Our family loved our three night stay in the Manta bungalow, a wooden structure on a small pond at the edge of a mountainous rainforest. Finca Mei tai is an operating cacao farm and bed-and-breakfast. The manta bungalow has a spacious outdoor living area and kitchen as well as two separate enclosed bedrooms with a large bathroom that connects the two bedrooms. There was plenty of room for our family of four. The bird watching from the patio area was outstanding and a huge hit with my bird-loving daughter as we saw countless parrots and toucans. Our son enjoyed exploring the trails on the property as well as fishing in the ponds. The best part of the Finca, however, is the delicious made-to-order breakfast that Cecile will serve each morning. We enjoyed fresh-squeezed juices, French press local arabica coffee, made-to-order eggs, homemade bread, locally sourced jams, and even world-class chocolates made with their cacao beans. Cecile has many great suggestions of local places to visit and eat. Take the time to explore the grounds. A stay here is a unique and personal experience, and we hope to return soon!"

"My wife and I spent a very enjoyable 3 days here in Feb. 2024. The lodge is beautiful, located within a working ranch and large private natural area. Our room was clean and comfortable. Although it was quite hot and dry, we enjoyed nature activities in the morning and evening, and lounging by the pool in the afternoon. Our favorite activities were birdwatching on our own or with guide Santos Molina. He was excellent - very knowledgeable and attentive to our interests. The birds were awesome! The staff were all competent and helpful. The food was delicious but options were limited. At check-in, I mentioned that I am lactose-intolerant, and they were very careful to not include dairy in my meals. I really appreciated that. We have only a couple suggestions for improvement: 1) have written materials for guests, such as a map, menu and price list for excursions; 2) do a better job of picking up litter."

"I booked at the last minute but never regret doing so. This property is beyond my expectations and well managed and organized. Breakfast is good lunch also. They have a nice swimming pool and the view is also fantastic. Vibe is great definitely a chill place for vocations. And it’s close to most of the locations."

Cataratas Bijagua Lodge, Incluye Tour Autoguiado Bijagua Waterfalls Hike ★★

"We had a wonderful stay at Cataraas Bijagua Lodge! Werner the owner/host was extremely accommodating and helpful in booking tours and advising us on what to do, and when to do it! The cabins are spacious, CLEAN, and modern, yet rustic, and right in the rain forest, steps to a trail right off the property that leads to a beautiful waterfall. There are several restaurants in the town of Bijagua (about a 5-6 minute drive from the Lodge), but we chose to eat all our dinners in the open air covered patio at the Lodge. Our main server, Natalie, was amazing and very friendly, and the food was delicious, especially the "Garlic Fish"! All the staff were great! If you're looking for a low-key, quiet retreat in the rain forest, this is it!! We'll be back! David & Joanie"
