Hotel Samokov ★★★★

"A hotel, but not as we know it! Family Group of 8 (4 Twins) booked B&B in Borovets for our Annual Ski Break. Our Samakov Hotel expectations would be reasonable; friendly staff, welcoming, clean, well maintained, basic breakfast, bar and reasonable location. We received a nice welcome, quick check in and made it to the lift. The lifts give you concerns they will break down at any time, the twin rooms are basic, TV, Balcony, WC, Bathroom. Don’t have a shower, if you do (which would be a reasonable expectation), your bathroom will resemble a wet room (more like a paddling pool), the baths are not sealed! Shower heads broken, towels thread bear. Housekeeping; it’s a change of towels; no cleaning and only wipe down. This was witnessed on a few days. Breakfast - free 4 all, buffet style. Any hot drinks taste like the sewers, orange juice is diluted rootbeer. Food served cold (they even give you a microwave to help warm up) and quality was below reasonable. After a few days the rumour around the Borovets chats was a virus was sweeping the village. Now, you dismiss as it never happens to you, but within 48 hours our group got hit, 24 hrs of bed ridden hell! The source, alleged water. Not defined as the Samokov, but the warnings signs were evident in hindsight. On reflection, housekeeping not using cleaning materials, public toilets not maintained with broken doors, air dryers etc; In terms of the hotel, at best it needs to be demolished, at worst a ‘turn key’ restoration. Avoid and research every available platform and make your choice."

"They are renting apartments within a hotel, so we first had to call them (couldn’t reach them) until we find out that the people from the hotel next to it have the keys. We were not able to use the pool and the sauna because it is only the apartments and no services."

Yagoda & Malina Villas ★★★

"I stayed here with family & friends for skiing in nearby Borovets. Staff were very friendly & helpful and it was a very peaceful quiet area. Our cabin was basic, but clean & cosy. There was an endless supply of piping hot water, plenty of towels provided and all linens changed half way through the week. Kitchen utensils are very sparse- I will bring stackable camping pans & some bowls next time. Snacks + 1 or 2 pasta dinners are manageable but not comfortable for self catering every meal. We had 1 or 2 breakfasts and evening meals in the restaurant but for variety also ate in the village. The non-skier in our group used the fitness centre & sauna during the day and could walk to Borovets for apres ski. There are plenty of taxi drivers around Borovets for evenings in the village, but I found the fare is a bit too expensive to use them every day (€10 each journey in Feb 2026). The teens in my group would have liked stronger wifi."

"Just got back from this hotel . Was worried about the poor reviews but was no need to have been . Check in was straight forward , rooms basic but clean and comfortable enough. Beds were ok definitely no matress springs in the back . Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Coffee maker and kettle, clean towels every day. Staff not over friendly but certainly not rude. Cleaning staff constantly mopping floors and outside area. Breakfast good with extensive choice. Outdoor SPA area with hot tubs , sauna , steam room and ice cold pool was nice after a day on the slopes. This hotel is all round ok I would definitely use it again . If you are due to visit the us no need to be worried it's ok."
