We celebrated our wedding anniversary at WA-Chicago and this is our first time staying at WA in the United States. Last WA stay was in Thailand where the experience was superb! Reservation was easy via the app and the concierge emailed me a week in advance asking if there was anything they can do to prepare of our stay. I had a terrible experience with a Hilton hotel in Las Vegas in Dec 2022 where a stranger opened my hotel door at 11:20 pm. I am still experiencing PTSD so I asked if the concierge can provide anything lavender (scent/oil) so I can be relaxed. Also, since it's our wedding anniversary, perhaps anything in that theme would be nice. First the concierge addressed me as Mr instead of Mrs. Unsure why one automatically thinks that it's the man who made the hotel booking. Second, the concierge wasn't able to meet my requests which was non-issue. We declined turn-down service but requested chocolate where they were never delivered during our stay. A robe was missing in the closet and room service delivered it immediately. There wasn't any coffee or tea in the room but the dining service delivered my hot tea in 30 minutes which was acceptable. The bed was comfortable but sound insulation wasn't great since we could hear neighbors' chatting at midnight. We used the steam/sauna for 30 minutes before checking out and the spa was a nice facility. The hotel is nicely located in the Gold Coast area where it is closed to many lovely restaurants. The reception area is kind of small and there were 2 guest service staffs assisting with check-in/out.

1. Didn’t asked for accesible room, but that’s what I got. 2. AC/heating system had a weird noise all night, you can’t turn it on because literally you won’t sleep. 3. Shower had someone’s else hairs in the shower wall, gross. - Hotel Manager: if you do not trust the team and their responsibilities, then you will have to do the rounds yourself to ensure your hotel is operating properly in all aspects. - Housekeeping manager: If you do not trust your people, you will have to do the rounds yourself. -If you still do your rounds but you don’t inspect the rooms properly, then you shouldn’t be in that position. Room fridge isn’t working in the rooms (front desk mentioned) so they ask you if you need one to ask front desk but they are charging for it, so who’s fault is it? client or hotel? don’t charge for something you need to repair REGARDLESS. Make no sense for customer service. Also, if you guys are having a group of “young teen/just turn 21” people, why would you put someone on the accesible room by their room? If someone requires an accesible room, in this case I didn’t required one, got assigned one, but imagine an elder person by their room. These “kids” were loud as heck until 4AM, fighting, arguing, drunk, crying, overall it was a nigh**are. Normally I have a good experience with Sheratons, but this one is overrated. I chose this hotel because last minute the company I work for had a meeting suggesting to find different hotels that may give us a group rate for the upcoming visits we will have to do in Chicago, but there’s no way I will suggest my coworkers to stay at this hotel with a first time bad experience. Not sure if I would give it a second try. Can’t risk it.

The hotel is beautiful and situated in a great location, but sadly I had a poor experience with one of the front desk representatives - Rebecca - who worked the evening shift. I was berated by this particular employee in a way that I have never before experienced in a professional customer service oriented setting. One evening, when I had approached the counter to purchase a couple of convenience staples, she was very unapproachable and asked in a very irritable manner how I was going to pay. She then took my card without saying a word and disappeared to the back room where she remained for 7 minutes or so. When she came back out, I asked her if the card machine was broken, and she flipped out - raising her voice and berating me in a nonsensical manner. I asked her what her name was, and she began saying it loudly and in a hostile manner, saying it over and over again and telling me to contact management if I had a problem. Her behavior was downright disgusting and a poor reflection of the hotel and the city of Chicago in general. She is not a good fit for the hotel and most certainly has cost this business money as anyone else she has accosted is unlikely to return, including those like myself who had spent well into the 4 figure range over the course of my stay. The next morning, I was worried that she would accost my family (my wife and toddler) as we departed early in the morning.

Location is quite good as it is within walking distance of local mass transit systems, shopping, eateries, and attractions. The location is also close enough to Grant Park that you could start a run and make it to the park very quickly to continue on for a few miles. Even based on location alone, I would return to this hotel. As others had mentioned, there is a refillable water bottle station by the elevators (empty bottles also provided), which is a great feature. The elevator had a weird quirk where it would overshoot the desired floor when going up (remedy the situation by pressing the button again to send the elevator down to the desired floor). If you do some research into the hotel and its reviews prior to booking there shouldn't really be any surprises. I went into the stay having some idea of what to expect and that helped me enjoy my stay. There is no mini-fridge in the standard room, which is also on the small side but perfectly fine if you don't plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel. The only seating in the hotel room was the desk chair. Some of the furnishings could use updating but the bed felt itself was great and the room was clean. I couldn't find any in-room controls for the temperature, but I did not have a problem with this; it's just something to be aware of. The bathroom was clean and utilitarian but towels and toiletries were provided. Updated charging station/hub/clock (both USB A and USB C) for both the desk and the nightstand would go a long way. This hotel is one tenant of a building that was built in the early 1900s. If you've ever lived in a building from around that time, you get used to some things being a little bit older and quirky. Since my priorities were having a great location for a reasonable price (compared to the nearby competition) that was also clean, accessible by mass transit, and had access to an eatery, this was a good stay for me.

The location is excellent . It is about a two minute walk from the north end of Michigan Avenue very close to the Hancock building/Water Tower. Staff were super friendly and helpful from the moment we came through the door. They assisted with parking as well as giving an extensive list of where to eat in the neighborhood. They also provided personal recommendations when we asked. Thanks Mark, Felicia and Alicia for your great service and charming personalities; you made the stay feel even more special. It is an older hotel that is not likely to appeal to those who want one with all the bells and whistles and an expansive fancy lobby associated with a modern, high-end hotel. Those aspects may be nice but they also come at a substantial price and do not guarantee great service. This hotel is an excellent value for the money. Our rooms were clean, spacious and the beds were comfortable. The views from the room were lovely so that was an extra bonus. There are refrigerators in the room and plug-in slots for electronic devices along the edge of the desk. Other reviewer‘s have not noticed these items and have complained that they did not exist. There was nothing that we needed that was not there. While we did not request any, I heard from another guest in the elevator that staff was very responsive on bringing them ice when they needed it. Hotel staff also take Covid safety seriously. This was a great stay in a beautiful city. I would not hesitate to return to the Whitehall.

Overall it was a good experience. A little hard for me to find using Google maps. However, I found it on the other side of the block rather quickly. They were great for accommodating my late check in. the bed was super comfortable and the room was nice and clean. I would stay again.

The room, the location and Obie, the concierge, made this trip complete!! Early check in was so helpful as was the early shot of coffee every morning. All of our questions and requests were taken care of by Obie. Great city with the hotel being in the center of everything. Would come back and stay again.

The hotel is very clean and tidy. The biggest feature of the room is the floor-to-ceiling windows. The scenery outside the window is very clear. Although there is no bustling Michigan Avenue, it is still good! There is a bar on the 18th floor of the hotel, not big. The hotel has a restaurant on the left side of the hotel entrance, named Somerset, in the room can also book this restaurant in the room dinning, about twenty or thirty minutes to deliver the meal to the room. I really like the bathroom's minimalist wash suit, which is white tea, especially fragrant and comfortable. Shopping, dining and entertainment are nearby. Not far from there are Chinese restaurants, such as Imperial Lamian, Old Sichuan, MingHin Cuisine, Shanghai Terrance, which are just a few minutes from Uber. Royal chef and old Sichuan are very popular! It is also 10 minutes from the hotel to the famous scenic spot Michigan Avenue, which is also close to Navy Pier and Millennium Park. The fly in the ointment is that the sound insulation in the hotel is not good, the guests from the opposite side of the room can hear the opening of the door, but the overall is good!

At the beginning, there was a problem with collecting money. Ctrip charged the room rate. The hotel charged it again. After communicating with Ctrip, it was resolved in a few days. The hotel returned the room rate. Ctrip actively helped solve the problem. The only bad thing was the hotel reservation. The taxi is not metered, it feels a bit pitted. Use Uber. Don't let the hotel book a car.
