"This hotel is new but still has system issues. We faced the same problem twice. We booked it on the way to California, but the city had a power outage and the hotel didn’t have a generator, so we had to go to El Paso instead. On the way back, we booked here again and found out the system wasn’t working, even the elevator. Check-in was super slow, and the girl at the desk, who was mostly on her phone, wasn’t very helpful."

"Today is another day of blind box guessing. A family of five travels. The room is not big but enough. The health is acceptable. The service is quite satisfactory. The facilities are generally the same. The overall experience is OK."

"Affordable place to stay if you have an errand around this city or even you have got a trip with family as well as your friend. We lodge here just one night before heading Guadalupe National Park. The room is cozy. Decent breakfast"

Hotel El Capitan

Hotel El Capitan ★★

📍 100 E Broadway, Van Horn

"Such a cute idyllic historic hotel. The courtyard is nice and lobby area picturesque. However it is quite a haul to enter the hotel with luggage. There are no exterior entrances to access rooms and elevators so if you check in at night you have to walk through guests drinking and entertaining in the courtyard, as there is no clear path to enter the hotel from other guests.  One hotel staff was friendly, the other was just unprofessional.  The room was very small for two people. Bathroom was modern and updated, though tiny as well.  If I would have known a train honked its way loudly through town all night and morning, I would have stayed somewhere else. Thank goodness for the loud air conditioning to cover it up a bit.  Breakfast was nice with a breakfast taco option and adorable make yourself Texas shaped waffle. Coffee was good but all items were almost gone by 8am and in need of replenishing.  Off the beaten path and in an undesirable area will not have us coming back. A pool, spa and exterior courtyard may maintain more returning guests? It did feel like a historic Fort Worth cowtown charm, so cute to stop."

"Convenient transportation, everything is OK, the bathroom has plenty of hot water and the bed is comfortable. But I found that there is a cockroach on the TV table. The breakfast is very rich and delicious. There are three kinds of fruits and many types of bread. Each of them is specially wrapped."

📍 1807 Frontage Rd, Van Horn

"The staff were nice and the room clean. It was right next to the freeway so it was a little bit noisy but not too bad, not enough to disturb my sleep. Breakfast was simple, coffee available, cereal and yogurt but there's a McDonald's right next door. Easy on and off Highway 10."

"Clean, modern and spacious room on the third floor. We enjoyed the hot breakfast and used the weight room to get in some treadmill walking in the air conditioned room as it’s impossible to exercise outside in the extreme summer heat."

"DOUBLE CHECK YOUR RECEIPT! On our trip from Mesa to Houston we needed a place to rest for a few hrs. We showed up just before midnight. The guy at the desk quoted me $79.00 great I’ll take it. After walking out the door I looked at my receipt and he charged me $103.94. When I turned around he was watching me. It looked as if he was waiting to see if I caught on that he over charged me. I went back in and asked why me charged me so much. He claimed it was taxes. I asked how much are taxes! I know they can’t be $30.00. He’s said oh sorry about that! And refunded me $13 and change. Besides this the bed was pretty comfortable and clean. A little outdated but fine for a short stay."
