Here's what happened: On May 2, 2025, I checked into Suite 13666 of the Home Inn Select Hotel for my wedding. At approximately 7:30 AM on May 3, 2025, 15 of my family and friends took the hotel elevator upstairs. After we entered the elevator, we found no weight limit signs (later explained by elevator maintenance personnel that this was due to hotel renovations), no overload alarms, and the doors closed normally, and the elevator immediately began to move upwards. After 7:30 AM, I repeatedly tried to contact my family in the elevator, but was unable to get through. At 7:44 AM, upon realizing someone might be trapped, I called the Jingdezhen Fire Department. Prior to this, the trapped people had repeatedly pressed the emergency bell, but no one answered. My cell phone had no signal, so I couldn't call the emergency services.
