Since it is next to the famous Hotchkiss School, many students and parents stay here. The hotel will be very busy before and after the holidays, so you need to book in advance."

"This is the first time I have felt so nervous in more than ten years of staying in a hotel. When I arrived at the door of this inn, it was closed and there was a note asking me to go through the side door. There was another note on the side door asking me to go upstairs to find the room I booked and reminding me to lock the door. When I got to the second floor, I saw a note on the door of a room (the room I stayed in). Didn't see any staff the whole time. There was no one in the other three rooms on the second floor. When we went downstairs, there was a check-in front desk and living room, a kitchen (with the door closed), and four other rooms with closed doors. There was no one in the whole INN. We were the only family in the whole INN, and it was on the roadside in a small town. We repeatedly confirmed that the door was closed at night. I thought I would be able to see the staff and have breakfast the next morning, but when I went downstairs at almost 9 o'clock in the morning, there was still no one there. I called the hotel three times (they said they could transfer to the owner's cell phone), but only the front desk phone was connected and I couldn't get through. We had to take out half a bottle of milk from the refrigerator and eat it with the dry cereal on the living room table. Is this the 4.9 positive review I saw on Ctrip? ! Hurry up, I left the key in the room, closed the door, and left the hotel. The frightening feeling brought by the empty, cold and weird environment of the entire INN has completely overshadowed the sense of comfort brought to us by the well-equipped room. I compared several hotels before choosing this one, which had a high rating and was expensive, just to have a warm, safe and comfortable environment. However, this experience refreshed my perception that expensive hotels and high ratings are not necessarily good hotels! Thanks to Ctrip for its communication and understanding and for giving us breakfast subsidies."

"Overall, Troutbech was a pleasant, though very expensive experience. My partner and I stayed in the main house, which is old but charming. The waitstaff were attentive and pleasant. The grounds are immaculately groomed and provide places to sit and peacefully contemplate nature. The amenities, e,g., pool, spa, sauna, gym, are located in separate buildings and are excellent. But then you are paying a $35 per day resort fee whether you use those facilities - or not. The breakfasts are good and bargain-priced. Except for the coffee. However Troutbech offers free drip coffee in the morning with unlimited refills and it is as good as Starbuck’s dark roast, VERONA blend. So the strategy is to get your free coffee and bring it to the breakfast table. We only ate one dinner at Troutbech and it was expensive! I had the Pork entree, which was delicious, while my partner had the Steelhead Trout, which was not. Steelhead Trout is not a true trout; it tastes like a bland Atlantic Salmon. It was disappointing and not worth $44 . There were other flaws. We ordered two Cappuccinos at the bar and they tasted like warm water. No flavor whatsoever! My guess is their coffee beans are too old and have lost their flavor. At $8 a pop this is unforgivable. Lastly, the mattress in our room was way too soft for my taste. Almost no support. Also, the TV service would not access CNN or any other cable channels. All it showed was “ The View,” So would I go back? No. While Troutbech has its charm, $500 per day (plus taxes) is too much to pay given its flaws."
