The historical significance of this venue must be highlighted to illustrate its uniqueness in Nara - We signed up for the complimentary tour of the hotel offered to hotel guests on certain mornings of the week and had the pleasure of having Ms. Sato, the director of marketing, introduce the story of Shisui and its past-life as the residence of the governor of Nara between 1922 to 2017, then as Shisui hotel with guest-rooms designed by renown architect Kengo Kuma. The emperor of Japan had stayed on property in post-war to sign the San Francisco treaty. Sato-san's thorough introduction in fluent-english had me realise a stay at this hotel is a unique experience in the way that it is beyond just luxury. The staff had been wonderful and eager to please without pushiness. It was much appreciated, as it gave room for my wife and I to enjoy each other's company at this perfectly peaceful property. The staff had been amazing from the beginning, at check-in, we had Rika-san, a lady with eyes that can smile, to help us check-in while we rest our feet at the lounge with tea, then guide us to our room while briefing us on all its amenities. The rooms were modern with accents of traditional Japanese designs to remind me of the locations' history. Details like the washroom walls that look like zen-gardens and overall wooden decor made my stay at the room one of the most relaxing experiences ever at any hotel. The French-Japanese wine-paired dinner at Suiyou was also our culinary highlight of our two-week vacation in Japan. In summary, after the two night stay, my wife had requested that we should come back to Shisui in the spring, summer and fall to experience all the seasons at this venue.

Hotel Nikko Nara

Nara|1.31km from Kofuku-ji Kokuhokan (National Treasure Hall)
Overall it was a great experience, so I gave it 5 stars🌟! Let’s talk about the advantages first: 1. The wood used in the interior decoration of the hotel is very natural, minimalist with a touch of luxury, giving people a very comfortable feeling☺️ 2. The outdoor hot spring pool experience is also very good, with beautiful scenery. It would be better if the tank could be larger. Otherwise, 2-3 people living in a room would not be able to experience it in 50 minutes. This is not very user-friendly. You are only given 50 minutes depending on the number of people, and the tank is too small so only one person can go in and soak in. Others have to wait outside, and couples cannot enjoy it at the same time. 🥺🥺🥺 3. In addition, the food is pretty good. Drinks are not included. There are not many amazing flavors. The first cold dish is the best. 4. The night view of Mt. Wakakusa is great, I must like this! The hotel will drive you up the mountain to see it👍 Let’s talk about the points that need to be improved: 1. The hotel service is a bit embarrassing, and the attitude is excellent, but there are always some indescribable feelings of inconsistency, such as kneeling service during check-in, and dining activities in the back. The waiter who checks you in does not even remember your last name and where you are. There are only a few rooms in the hotel (not for such a small-scale boutique B&B with few rooms), and there are obvious traces of the process. He also said that he would help to ask if there is any space in the private hot spring the next morning, but nothing was said. 🐶 2. The pillows on the bed in the room are very uncomfortable and too high. There is no difference between the two pillows as they are high. There is no choice. Be careful of stiff neck. 👴 3. The included dinner does not include drinks and menu upgrades, which need to be ordered separately, but we did not order them. When we checked out, the waitress came to ask us for payment. When we expressed confusion, she asked us if we had ordered dinner. Extra drinks. Please, don’t you keep track of whether guests order or not? Wouldn't it be rude to ask guests to confirm the check-out time themselves? 🙁 4. After observing the guests who stayed that day, basically the majority were Chinese (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), followed by a few European, American and Japanese guests. However, the hotel did not have a Chinese-speaking waiter. In addition to Japanese, it was Japanese-style English that was forced to recite words. I want to say that although you can communicate in English, but if you can't speak it, are you really respecting the Chinese guests by talking like a duck throughout the process? After all, it is extremely difficult to communicate like this. Some Japanese people cannot understand the English they speak. I wonder how the hotel has no Chinese-speaking waiters when there are so many Chinese guests and they even open Weibo for promotion? 🙁

I had decided two night stay in this hotel because this was so closed to (walk distance) the sightseeing spots: Nara Garden and the Temple. My family car arrived at 10:30pm on 3/1 and the girl staff came outside immediately and welcomed our arrival. She was so helpful for taking off the luggage from the car under cold temperature and nicely arranged our room and asked clearly the style and the time of breakfast we preferred so that the team could arrange in our satisfaction. The most amazing thing is that she was the local Japanese but her English is very fluent! On the other hand, the front desk manager is also very nice and helpful by assisting us to take the luggage to the room proactively. May I here specially thanks to this front desk team for your wonderful service and hospitality. My accommodation plan is superior room with Garden View. The room is so spacious which comfortably fit in 3 of us with luggage. The view of Nara Garden outside of the hotel is really nice! The room design was stylish and decent and most importantly, the room was so new and clean. We have got a set of breakfast with a choice of western style and Japanese style. Overall, the breakfast is greatly enough and delicious. This is my first time experience in this hotel. The hotel is not crowd so I really feel calm and peaceful during my stay which made me feel so relax! I am sure that I will be back this hotel when I am back to Nara!

I was more interested in a nice hotel with a nice atmosphere in a good location every time I went sightseeing in Nara, so I stayed for the first time. Everywhere is very well maintained and although it is an old hotel, it was very comfortable. The room I booked is a renewed Japanese modern non-smoking twin. After all the air conditioner is new. It was a very hot day, but I was able to spend comfortably in the room. There is also a foot massage machine, so you can heal your tired legs from sightseeing. As for the lighting, I have something to tell the hotel a little. The large communal bath is not a hot spring, but it is well managed, comfortable and relaxing. The lobby has a drink server as a service for guests, which was really helpful in the hot season. I booked with breakfast and dinner, but the taste of Nara was very delicious and I enjoyed Nara sake. The location is close to Kintetsu Nara Station and close to tourist spots, so it is a place where you can return to the hotel and rest as soon as you get tired of sightseeing. Convenience stores, shopping streets and souvenir shops are also nearby, making it the best location. If I have a chance to go to Nara again, I definitely want to stay here. At that time, I would be happy if other rooms were renewed. I'm sure the rooms that have not been renewed are clean, but new equipment such as air conditioning and lighting is a condition for me to spend comfortably. I look forward to it.

We decided on this because of the location and being able to spend time on the terrace. It's about an 8 minute walk to Nara National Museum, and if you walk a little further you'll be close to Todaiji Temple. I think it's a good location for walking and sightseeing around the area, and the roads along the way are very atmospheric. The staff were all very friendly and made me feel comfortable. In particular, the female staff member who realized that I didn't properly understand the free drinks at the cafe and explained it to me was very kind. After checking in, I went out to the terrace and sat and enjoyed the view of Sarusawa Pond and Kofukuji Temple in front of me, and it felt very luxurious. There is a Starbucks on the first floor of the building, so it is possible to take the drinks you buy there to the terrace. The hotel room is clean and quiet at night as there are no tourists nearby. The interior was stylish and the room was spacious. When you open the window shoji, you will see a three-storied pagoda right in front of you. However, I woke up at 6am to the sound of the temple bell. Well, that's the real thrill of Nara, isn't it? The public bath is small, but since I was using it on weekdays, I was lucky to be able to use it privately. It was also fun to be able to choose shampoo. Although there is no restaurant that serves breakfast or dinner, we were able to order a breakfast bento box that seemed to be outsourced when making a reservation. This was very delicious and a great choice. There are many delicious restaurants nearby for dinner, so I didn't have any problems. There is also a drink vending machine in the ba*****t, and there is a convenience store nearby, so you won't have to worry if you don't have much luggage. I was satisfied with the perfect service and clean rooms and bedding. There are some things to keep in mind if you are visiting by car. Only the paid parking lot affiliated with the hotel was difficult. On Saturdays and Sundays, there is a zone that becomes a pedestrian paradise, so you can only get there from an extremely narrow road. I had researched this in advance, so I was using a small light car and everything was fine, but I wonder what would have happened if it had been a car with number 3. Next time I visit, I will use another parking lot or take the train.

Iroha Grand Hotel Kintetsu Nara Ekimae

Close to shopping streets and stations, within walking distance to museums and Todaiji Temple. There are supermarkets, convenience stores, drugstores, coffee shops downstairs...it is very convenient for travel and dining. The room size is ideal, the facilities are complete, and the soft and hard furnishings are all online. The only dissatisfaction during my stay: there was no advance notice of the fire drill. I woke up to the alarm in the morning. The first playback was in Japanese, which was completely incomprehensible and very embarrassing. The Indian front desk receptionist upon check-in should remind guests that there will be a fire drill the next morning. Judging from the reactions of other guests, they must have known about this beforehand.

The location of the area is very good. It is next to Ruocao Park. In addition to self-check-in, it makes people feel that the head is big. The test of English is good. The price and service match. Health is also OK.
Tenpyo Ryokan

The location is right in the shopping street and also at the Kintetsu exit, it is only 15 minutes to go to the park. The staff is warm and courteous, the hot springs are fine but quiet enough. The hotel is old but tidy, there is no daily necessities except old towels, including a blow dryer in the hot spring area, and there is nothing towels lock. Of course, this price can't be too much, remember this is a hotel. I was impressed by the invincible location and courteous staff, I can't say whether I like it or not.

The location of the room is really consistent with the online reviews. You can see the deer on the balcony, especially when you walk in the morning and evening, you can get in touch with each other in front of the door. 5 minutes to go out, shopping, eating, parks, temples are all complete. It is worth mentioning that the room service is in place. The only drawback is that the check-out time is before 10 o'clock, and the overtime is 3840 yen/hour.

Welcomed right from the get go even though our room wasn't quite ready! The staff were incredibly kind. Honestly, finding an affordable accommodation in Nara at this good of a location does not come easy, and so if you're traveling on a budget this is an excellent option. Room was very clean, air conditioning worked very well on those hot summer days, we were in the budget room but it was still decently comfortable and spacious for two people. Definitely would recommend.
Ryokan Kosen Kazeya Group
