"The room is a standard hotel style, clean and comfortable, and the service is very friendly. There is free bottled water in the room (generally not provided by hotels), but the breakfast is very simple, only a few American cold dishes and fruit coffee. The hotel is also very safe overall. It is a one-story bungalow style, so you can choose with confidence."

"We found this place on the New York ******* history trail website. We were looking for a ghost hunting getaway within a few hours of home and narrowed it down to two different inns in central ny. We settled on the Brae Loch based on the age and ******* history of the building but also because of the offer of an overnight package including dinner and a private ghost tour. The info on the ******* history site stated the package was available May1-Oct 31 Sun-Thurs and that you should call to make reservations and request the “ghost tour.” When I called to book I specifically requested the ghost tour package and asked how the ghost tours work, are they at a specific time or throughout the night. The girl who took the reservation said “I think either the host or the owner does them after dinner.” O.k., a bit vague but at least an acknowledgment that there would be a tour at some point. When we arrived and checked in I told the girl at the desk we had come for the ghost tour package and what time would the ghost tour be. Once again same vague answer, “I don’t know, I think some time after dinner, maybe ask the host.” From the time of our booking and over the course of our first day at the inn we asked five different employees about the tours and no one had anything but a vague idea about them. Our waitress even told us she thought they only did them in October. After dinner we went back to the gift shop and asked a different girl and she said maybe try again tomorrow when the owner was there but to be honest at that point we were a little embarrassed to have to ask again since previous inquiries had employees looking at us like we were crazy so we decided to just forget it. As for the inn itself, it really is a beautiful and unique old building. We especially loved the cozy, dark, creepy basement pub and had huge fun playing billiards and just hanging out down there. Of course a 200 plus year old building shows its age but that just adds to the charm. Also the staff (with the exception of our thoroughly indifferent check in) were wonderful, just really friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home. Just a couple more things to know: As stated in previous reviews the shower in the Robert the Bruce room is lukewarm bordering on chilly. God help you if you’re second for the shower. The remote for the ac did not work so I had to keep reaching awkwardly behind the tv to adjust the temp on the wall unit. Also the restaurant only offered a limited menu on Sunday and no pub dining. All in all not what was promised on the ******* history site and definitely not what we thought we were paying for but we made the best of it, did our own ghost hunting and had a good time anyway."
