Hotel the Flag exceeded our expectations. The location is convenient and in a nice, happening part of Osaka. Less than 10 mins from the nearest subway and walking distance to Dotonburi. The service from check-in until the time we collected our luggage late the next day was excellent. Staff speak good English and were lovely. Rooms looked new and spotless, there were small but probably slightly bigger than the average size in Japan. Breakfast was simple but really good and a good selection too. There is a water cooler to refill your bottle, and coin laundry/dryer facilities within the hotel. I totally recommend this hotel.

Used for watching baseball. The roof of the dome was visible from a close distance and it was easy to come and go in about 15 minutes. I arrived before 13:00, but it was good to check in as soon as the cleaning was completed and I was able to relax. The email asking for check-in time arrived the next day instead of the day (because it is via a travel agency), so it is smooth to contact the arrival time in advance.

This is my first time staying in a B&B in Japan. Let me tell you about my real feelings: 1. The original intention of booking a B&B was because my family of three was traveling. The hotel area in Japan is relatively small, and it is difficult to book a triple room. I saw that this one was suitable, so I booked it; 2. After placing the order, I received an email confirmation very soon, and I could add WeChat to communicate👍 3. The hotel is located at the Nankai Tram Fanhama Station. It is a 3-5 minute walk from the station. It is quite convenient. There is a supermarket outside the station, and there is a convenience store across the road. Breakfast was solved smoothly😝 4. The room is a Japanese-style single-family house, two floors, two bedrooms upstairs, and a tatami downstairs meters, can sleep up to 6 people; 5. After turning on the floor heating and air conditioning, the room is very warm; 6. The lack of feeling is that there is only one bathroom, and it is on the second floor. If there are many people, it will be more likely to cause crowding😓 7. The bedding is relatively not as comfortable and clean as the hotel; 8. Because smoking is not allowed in many places in Japan, you must go to a fixed smoking place. The nearest place to the residence is the entrance of the game hall under the tram station, which is a little inconvenient for smokers. 9. It is highly recommended for travelers who want to try the real situation of Japanese society and travelers traveling with companions (more than 2 people)

The system of leaving and finding keys is very impressive. There are very kind people, and I was personally satisfied with all aspects. It may be a bit tricky for couples to find, but for solo travelers or friends, it is one of the best value accommodations. However, it is a bit far from the Namba area that tourists often visit, but the subway station is right nearby, so it is easy to access.

The hotel location is great and easy to walk around exploring right in the middle of the city and you will find this gem ramen store open 24/7! The only disappointment was with the butler service or more the non existent butler service. For the price we are paying, I expected much much more from St Regis as I have been accustomed to at other St Regis Hotels. The hotel is beginning to show its age and hence the cleanliness part is coming into question when our rooms were being cleaned, I mean I am again nit picking here but it isn’t up to St Regis usual standards. The gym room is adequate but there isn’t a pool in a 5 star hotel 🙃.

I recently stayed at this minimalist-designed hotel with a strong focus on sustainability. The rooms were small but efficiently designed, making good use of space. The reception area doubled as a bar and breakfast buffet, which was a unique and convenient touch. The breakfast offered a good variety, aligning with the hotel's eco-friendly ethos. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the train station, which was manageable and added to the overall experience. Friendly service-focused staff.

The entire Staff was amazing, friendly and helpful. Prior to my check-in I left my bag with my kids' passports at shin- osaka station. After arriving at the hotel, I asked one of the receptionist if they can hwlp me make phone calls to all possible stations that I may have left my bag because they speak very good english and of course japanese. Without hesitation, they complied and made numerous calls. The next day, I went to each stations lost and found that I may have possible lost my bag. Fortunately, the bag was retrieved and all items was inside the bag. When I returned to the hotel, the helpful receptionist, Ms. Saki was on the phone still calling ststions after station. Im glad I booked my hotel in Dotonbori hotel. As for the hotel, it was pretty small but it was expected. Just needed to adjust with the room size but ahould be good enough for 4 people with 3 beds. Plus, the hotel was going under renovation but it was manageable. And for the location, it was right on target if you are looking to shop, eat and drink a lot. I'm 2 to 8 mins walk from 3 don quijote including a mega don qui. Overall, it was a very happy family trip.

Location is excellent being next to Shin Osaka station. All staff are well trained, friendly and helpful. We have no issues in communicating with the staff. Rooms are spacious & roomy enough for two pax. They are clean as well. Being next to the train station, there are plentiful eateries available in the station; in case one does not wish to take meals in the hotel.

Osaka Travel Guide

Osaka

Osaka, Japan's third-largest city, is a vibrant blend of modern energy and traditional charm. Known as the culinary capital of Japan, Osaka is famous for its street food culture, with dishes like takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes) filling the air with irresistible aromas. The city is also home to historical landmarks like Osaka Castle, a stunning symbol of Japan’s feudal past, and lively districts such as Dotonbori, where neon lights and bustling streets create an unforgettable atmosphere. Whether you're enjoying a day of shopping in Umeda or exploring the tranquil Shitenno-ji Temple, Osaka offers a dynamic mix of old and new.

Beyond the city itself, Osaka is a gateway to other must-visit destinations, including the ancient city of Kyoto and the popular Universal Studios Japan theme park. With its thriving entertainment scene, a rich cultural heritage, and some of the best food in the world, Osaka is a city that caters to both adventure seekers and those looking to relax. Known for its friendly locals and laid-back vibe, Osaka offers a warm welcome to visitors from all over the globe. Whether you’re in the mood for delicious food, fascinating history, or exciting attractions, Osaka is a city that promises to delight at every turn.

Getting to and Around Osaka

Getting to and Around Osaka

When flying into Osaka, you'll most likely land at Kansai International Airport (KIX), located about 50 km from the city center. From there, you have several convenient ways to reach downtown Osaka.

The JR Haruka Express is one of the fastest options, taking about 35 minutes to reach Osaka Station for around $12. If you're heading to areas like Namba or Umeda, there are other convenient train routes available as well.

If you prefer a more relaxed ride or are carrying heavy luggage, Airport Limousine Buses are a great option. These buses are comfortable, run frequently, and cost about $10, taking approximately 45-60 minutes to reach major locations in the city.

For a more direct route, taxis are available, but they can be more expensive, typically costing between $100-$140 depending on traffic and the destination.

What part of Osaka is best to stay in?

Best Areas to Stay in Osaka

Dotonbori/Shinsaibashi: If you're a first-time visitor to Osaka, Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi are unmissable. This bustling district is the heart of Osaka’s nightlife and entertainment scene. You’ll find iconic landmarks like the famous Glico Running Man sign, neon-lit streets, and a wide variety of restaurants offering local specialties such as takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes). The area is also perfect for shopping, with Shinsaibashi’s long arcade lined with trendy stores and boutiques. While this area can be busy and touristy, it offers the perfect mix of Osaka’s modern energy and traditional street culture, making it ideal for those looking to experience the city’s lively spirit up close. It's slightly on the pricier side, but you can’t beat the convenience of being so close to all the major attractions.

Umeda (Kita District): For those who prefer a more cosmopolitan vibe, Umeda is Osaka’s business and shopping hub. Home to impressive skyscrapers, upscale shopping malls like Grand Front Osaka, and rooftop gardens with stunning views, Umeda is a great base for those looking to experience Osaka in style. It’s a bit more laid-back compared to the electric energy of Dotonbori but still offers easy access to major attractions like Osaka Castle and Universal Studios Japan (a short train ride away). The area is generally a bit more upscale and less chaotic, but you’ll still find plenty of restaurants, bars, and cultural spots to explore. Umeda is an excellent choice for visitors seeking a balance between modernity and convenience.

Namba: If you want to be in the heart of Osaka’s entertainment district, Namba is the place to be. Just a short walk from Dotonbori, this area is perfect for those who want to be close to everything, from neon lights and street food stalls to chic restaurants and vibrant nightlife. Namba is also home to traditional attractions like the historic Shitenno-ji Temple, as well as the famous Namba Parks shopping complex, which offers both retail therapy and green spaces. This area is perfect for visitors who want a combination of modern amenities and cultural exploration, with everything within easy walking distance. Though it can be a little crowded, staying in Namba means you’re right at the center of Osaka’s action.

RrussyauOverall, we had a very pleasant experience at the hotel, thanks to its prime location and the quality of products and materials used. However, we wished the room lights were brighter at night. Unfortunately, we missed our first day and night at the hotel due to flight delays. We requested an additional breakfast for one more person for two days, but the hotel only provided one free breakfast...

GGuest UserIf you want to go to USJ, this hotel with two entrances is the closest to USJ. And also is close to the universal city station. And you can take the Limousine bus to USJ as well. Tho, I booked 2 nights and wanted to break the receipt down per night, that's so difficult if you paid in advance with trip.com due to Singapore policy that cannot break the price down if you book multiple nights. There are also more taxes to pay at the hotel. I booked one more night, so the total is 3 nights and the tax to pay at the hotel is 1,000 yen. This room has a river view and seems to be cheaper than the USJ view. No cute slippers or anything for a New York type room.

HHui Min ThamHotel was conveniently located right next to one of the entrances of Yotsubashi Station (which can easily be used to reach places such as Namba) and was within walking distance of Shinsaibashi as well. There is a small mart located right below the hotel where many necessities (e.g. food, drinks, toiletries) can be gotten. Checking in and out was easy and efficient. The rooms were mostly neat and clean (with a small fridge and shampoo/soap/conditioner provided) albeit on the tinier side. That aside, it more than suffices for travellers.

YyosheIt was alright, the spa theme park seemed pretty decent, though I suspect there to be many people during the daytime since we went inside at around 4 am still with a bunch of people inside. The rooftop pool was decent but you had to pay for the waterslides. The spa felt more like a theme park than a typical traditional onsen experience, but we still saw mainly Japanese people there. Most of the hotel cited charges for stuff here and there (e.g. late night entry fee for the spa, extra cost to enter the pool etc) but I suspect they are for regular visitors and not hotel guests since it was not recorded when we checked out other than the waterslide cost as mentioned. Annoying thing was that you had to take off your shoes to enter the hotel at the entrance, and that there was no shower in your own room.
