"Exiting Taiyuan South Station, follow the signs to the West Plaza, take the escalator up to the ground level, and walk straight ahead. Cross a small road at the pedestrian crossing on your left, and you've arrived. Do not go through the underpass. The hotel breakfast is excellent, truly five-star standard, and the staff are also very good. From the front desk, exit to the right, turn left onto the main road, and walk along the road towards the station for a few minutes. There's a pedestrian crossing, and then you'll see the entrance to Taiyuan South Station. It's about a seven or eight-minute walk. The room has a knob to indicate opening and closing the window, and there can be some traffic noise as it faces the street."

"The look and feel of this place are great, one can really think that is in a old Chinese movie. Rooms are fairly large with comfortable beds. Cleanliness is average, but everything that's advertised is available as far as amenities go. Location is great, no breakfast available. Staff speaks a little bit of English and are trying to help as much as they can. If you are a fan of the authentic Chinese housing then this is a place for you, bit if you expect European level of service and tidiness probably should avoid."

"My experience staying at this hotel as below. 1. They provide pickup and drop off from the train station. The day before the Inn contacted me to make arrangement for the pickup. Then they arranged to drive me back to station on the day I leave. Service was efficient and prompt. Much appreciated. 2. I was able to use the washing machine to wash come clothes which was much needed. Comb and toiletries were provided. So grateful for these little necessities as I left mine at the previous hotel. 3. The boss upgraded me to a bigger and better room because it was the low season. The kang bed was so comfortable and firm. I had the best sleep so far at this Inn. I'm so happy. 4. The Inn is inside the old city and practically next to one of the city gates. Very convenient for sightseeing old Pingyao city. 5. Everyone very friendly and helpful. Boss also gave me a bottle of vinegar. Wish I could take it back to UK with me. 6. The price of this Inn is also very reasonable and affordable. 7. Pingyao is a beautiful, ancient old city. Worth coming. I highly recommend staying here. "Before booking, I saw many negative reviews about the hotel's outdated facilities and the courtyard parking. I debated whether to book, but curiosity eventually got the better of me as I wanted to experience this trendy Shanxi hotel. I stayed in the 'Jin Xian Lou' (Pure Yang Ya Ju) to the left of the main entrance, and the experience was awful. **Pros**: The service staff were all excellent, from the front desk during check-in to the breakfast servers and housekeeping. The room also had high ceilings, which I guess is a plus. The breakfast was alright. **Cons**: The elevator in the Jin Xian Lou had no ventilation; it was stifling hot as soon as you stepped in. The hallway outside the elevator had an indescribable musty smell. Upon entering the room, there was also an unpleasant odor, so I immediately opened the windows for ventilation. I could tolerate the room being old, and the cleanliness of a 45-square-meter room was just okay. However, I was shocked when I got to the bathroom. The plating on the shower faucet was peeling off, the shower door seal was yellowed and stiff, making it impossible to close the door. I didn't dare turn the shower water up too high. Also, the toilet seemed smaller than standard size, with an aftermarket smart lid that was positioned very oddly; a larger person probably wouldn't even fit. **Complaints**: For such a seemingly magnificent hotel, I found four hangers insufficient. I asked housekeeping for more wooden hangers, but they said they didn't have any wooden ones. They eventually brought back an assortment of plastic, wire, and other materials. Of course, housekeeping tried their best, but it's laughable that such a high-end hotel would use these hangers. Doesn't it cost much to buy some wooden hangers? The room I stayed in faced the courtyard (which was more like a public parking lot). The electronic sounds of license plates being called out from outside the window started from 6:30 AM and didn't quiet down until after 11:00 PM, along with car horns and other noises in between. The hotel hosts many groups and conferences, which makes it very noisy. It's not suitable for individual travelers who prefer a quiet stay. I will not choose to stay here again if I return to Taiyuan. It's all show and no substance, not worth it 👎"

"Had a fantastic stay! We booked the 'sky-light room,' which was very quiet, allowing us to sleep soundly until morning. The front desk attendant was incredibly warm and helpful; she brought ice packs for my wife's sprained ankle and even lent us a charging cable. The guesthouse is conveniently located directly across from the old town city wall entrance, where you can climb up for free to enjoy panoramic views of the ancient city."

"The biggest surprise of this trip was staying at this old Pipa Inn, which felt like a private museum. From the moment I stepped through the door, everything I saw was exquisite collections and memorabilia related to Zhaojun. Every decoration showcased the owner's aesthetic and ingenuity, making me feel as if I had traveled through time and was conversing with history. The location is simply impeccable. Huayan Temple is right outside the door, and the joy of walking everywhere is something truly special! The nearest taxi stand, Huayan Hotel, is only a three-minute walk away. Right at the doorstep is a food paradise, with famous local eateries like Xijindao, Fenglinge, Longjuxiang, and Zini 369 all within walking distance. Finding food was absolutely effortless, perfect for lazy people like us who don't want to plan. The inn also provides breakfast, and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of the meals, with a perfect blend of Chinese and Western options. Even more remarkable is the atmosphere here. All the guests were polite, and I even met some foreign friends. My biggest thanks go to the owner. When we had an urgent work matter and needed assistance, the owner not only didn't find it troublesome but went out of their way to enthusiastically help us coordinate resources, solving our immediate problem. This is no longer just an inn; it's the warmest support system on a journey. Highly recommended!"

Our room, with its small attic, surprisingly had three 1.8-meter beds including the downstairs one, which is perfect for family travel. The owners are really lovely; they helped us with our luggage at the entrance and gave us directions to avoid any pitfalls. They even gave us two bottles of vinegar when we left – absolutely fantastic! 👍"

"I chose Nan She for both of my trips to Datong, spaced about twenty days apart. The first time was by chance, but the second was a deliberate choice, both reflecting my high appreciation for every aspect of Nan She. It's located right beneath the North City Wall of the ancient city, close to Daiwang Mansion and Kuixing Tower. Its proximity to the main road makes getting around very convenient. The entrance to the North City Wall is just a few minutes' walk away, offering a superb spot to watch the sunset over the ancient city. The breakfast at the guesthouse is absolutely delicious. The rooms are spotless, and the bedding is clean; every detail is perfectly executed. The overall service is beyond words – attentive, warm, and thoughtful. Choosing the right accommodation is a crucial part of enhancing the travel experience, and both of my stays here provided an excellent one. Datong is a city you'll want to revisit; the more you get to know it, the more you'll love it. The blend of history and modernity, delicious food, and beautiful scenery offers endless appeal.
