Two Rivers Lodge by Marston’s Inns

Overnight stay following a wedding. Great location for our purpose. Room was clean and had all of the expected amenities and services. Tea tray was well stocked. Check in is 2pm, which was awkward as the wedding service was at 1:30. I booked two rooms so paid an additional £20 to check in early at one of these rooms. I telephoned the reservations team on two occasions a few days prior to our stay to enquire about the check in process and how access to the room would be facilitated since we would not be returning from the wedding until 1am. My only criticism would be the lack of clarity I received from the respondents. As a result of the insufficient answers to my questions, I made provision to leave the wedding venue during the day to check in at the second room. Upon arrival at the Two Rivers, all my additional arrangements were negated as the gentleman who checked us in, allowed us to check in for the second room there and then and take the key card. Other family members were staying in the room and I was paying for it. The access to the room was via a separate accommodation block and simply using the key card. All my additional arrangements to check in during the day were unnecessary. It would have been very easy if the respondents to my telephone calls earlier that week had given me that information. We had a good night's sleep and the breakfast was excellent and very reasonably priced.

Family funeral meant a short notice trip to the Cardiff area, my usual list of hotels was thrown out due to two Coldplay concerts which wiped out accomodation for a significant distance on those dates. Luckily booked a room here - and though aware of the site had not used this as a stopping off point before - indeed had not tried Days Inn sites before. Pleasantly surprised by the facilites which, akin to Travelodge or similar I would say, were very good and perfectly adequate for the one night stop over. Reception staff very welcoming and efficient. Room (Twin) was very clean and well set out, pat on the back to housekeeping staff who had obviously paid attention to detail. Basic refreshments in the room were fine and slightly better than the norm with bottled water available. Temperature over night was comfortable and noise (despite being just off the M4) was fine. Costa and McDonalds plus a couple of other caterers are next door so fine for grabbing light meals. Wifi was fine, but TV signal very poor and most channels not really watchable - so a move to cable or an aerial upgrade needed I would suggest. Would certainly have no worries about booking here again and felt it was good value for money (though the late booking and concert pressure on accomodation in the area had moved the cost up somewhat.....dynamic pricing as with other chains such as Premier Inn etc.)

Staying for three nights we enjoyed the hospitality of Kelvin & Meryl in their town of Gilwern. Good communication prior to our arrival, made locating their B&B easy. Our room had a comfortable bed, with excellent wifi available. We were spoilt for choice, enjoying made to order breakfasts each morning, as all eating options were catered for by Kelvin. Enjoying excellent weather, we were able to drive and explore some of the Brecon Beacons highlights from Gilwern, along with making the short walk to the passing Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and experience the local pubs for dinner. Looking forward to a return visit when next visiting south Wales.

The room is an old hotel, hundreds of years old, like this atmosphere can be experienced, a bit of a game Stephanie memory feeling. If you don't give five stars at night, the game is full of sense, and the sparrow food is a bit scary. If the girl is alone, you should consider it. Self-check-in, the old house is naturally inconvenient, but after all, the price is there.

My daughter booked this for a spa day for us. Sadly I wouldn’t recommend didn’t feel spa like at all. The girls in the spa were lovely but whilst having what was meant to be a relaxing massage all you could hear was loud music from a fitness class so couldn’t switch off. Had to be asked to be shown around and charged £10 for robe and slippers. Lunch was ok but for very little was £50 The pool area only had 6 beds in total other than that was chairs. Just not the relaxing spa day you would expect then there was no staff in the pool area where 3 young lads proceeded to keep water bombing in the pool so we didn’t go in. I’d avoid this if you wanted a relaxing peaceful day.
