In short: a great hotel in Nungwi, close to the ocean and all the essentials. Please read to the end – you might find this helpful, and we're happy to hear it! This was our last (3rd) hotel in Zanzibar, our main goal being a relaxing oceanside getaway. We were happy with our choice. LOCATION. The hotel isn't on the beachfront, but it's about a 5-minute walk to the ocean. Everything you need is nearby – restaurants where you can eat well and watch shows, several different beaches, a souvenir market, and even a liquor store. There's a school and a stadium near the hotel – it's quite interesting to watch the locals. HOTEL. There are two hotels, all owned by the same owner, and you can use the facilities at both. The grounds are small, but cozy, well-maintained, and have everything you need – swimming pools, bars, and restaurants. ROOMS. We chose this hotel largely because of the large family room, which comfortably accommodates four people. Our choice was justified – a two-room suite with a huge loggia offering a beautiful view of the illuminated pools and streets in the evening. Cons: the room is a bit tired and in need of renovation. Auditory-sensitive people may be challenged by the nighttime sounds: roosters crowing, muezzins singing, crows cawing. But this is definitely not a complaint about the hotel. The room is on the 3rd floor, there is no elevator. The room has a ton of lighting and separate lighting zones – it's comfortable and beautiful. STAFF. Above all praise. Everyone is very friendly and helpful with any questions. We even spoke with the hotel owner – a very pleasant man, he helped us resolve a slight delay at check-in and then helped with various other questions. BREAKFAST. Almost perfect by local standards – everything you need is there: made-to-order eggs, sausages/bacon, fresh vegetables, salads, cereal, juices, many types of bread and pastries, fruit, and desserts. The only thing missing is a coffee machine – instant coffee only, but that's the case almost everywhere in Zanzibar. OCEAN. Several beaches nearby, crystal-clear water, no low tides on the western side to interfere with swimming. But there are stunning sunsets – don't miss them! PARKING. We arrived in a rental car and left it in the internal, guarded parking lot until morning. And then there are the CONS. We essentially had only one – despite pre-paying for our family room, they didn't give us our room right away – for some reason, their booking system showed our reservation as two double rooms. It took about an hour to resolve, but then the owner intervened and resolved the issue. Overall, we were satisfied with the room. VERDICT. We recommend the hotel; it's a good choice for the price/quality ratio.

I really enjoyed my stay at Kendwa Rocks Hotel. The beach, the view, and the sunset were absolutely beautiful. My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. It’s the perfect place to relax and have a good time. If I come back to Zanzibar, I’d definitely stay here again.”

This is the third Riu hotel in the area, and having stayed at the previous two, I found this one, which opened in '26, to be a step down overall. The smell of concrete was very strong. They claim to have seven à la carte restaurants (non-buffet), but not all of them were open; in fact, only one was open each day. This wasn't mentioned on their website or on Ctrip. We were only informed at check-in that reservations could only be made for the following day. This means if you're only staying one night, you're stuck with the buffet for all three meals and can't experience any of the all-inclusive à la carte restaurants, despite paying the same per-night rate as those staying longer, which feels very unfair. The large, modern building feels too artificial; I'd rather stay in a more traditional hotel on the island.

My Blue Hotel is very beautiful and clean. The pool is the absolute highlight. From the pool you can enjoy the sunset super. At the beach there were always many free beds so you had a choice of place at any time. The staff distributed cocoa nuts on the beach daily. The staff is very friendly, food delicious and fresh, the evening program was varied, a very clean hotel. We would recommend it to everyone further. The location and the beach are superb. The hotel offers massages at a good price. We enjoyed the holiday in full trains. The internet was usually bad, however. In the room, there was little reception. This has potential for improvement.

Great hotel, but some niggles. Has safe parking, central location, nice staff, big rooms. In our first block power off virtually every night 6-9.00 pm, Did get moved and was a huge improvement. Breakfast could be a little more interesting On the whole well worth a visit 😎

GGuest UserWe were warmly greeted by the staff at the entrance. I had booked a deluxe room and had arrived early, would have appreciated an early checkin but the room wasn’t ready so meanwhile I explored the resort amenities. It has a private beach with a mini golf area and a bar alongside. The staff is friendly but most of the staff is new, a bit slow but they get you what you need. Maybe that’s how they’re wired, I’m unsure but they were kind. Pictures don’t do enough justice to this property. It’s massive, beautiful interiors with high end quality products. Loved the spa, felt so rejuvenated and I loved their bathing product line, the shower gels, etc. It’s ace quality. Food was good. They had live performance that got everyone on flood. It’s one of the best properties I’ve stayed at.

AAnonymous UserFirst of all, bad, 1. Booked an executive room, but this hotel does not have an executive lounge at all. I don’t know what the difference between the executive room and the cheap ordinary room is. The executive room is reflected in it. It is recommended that Trip.com . If you don’t have a lounge hotel, don’t sell the executive room type, or write down what courtesy is there? 2. There are frequent power outages and power outages, but it will come soon, and it is estimated that it has something to do with the local power system. 3. Living on the second floor, just arrived in the house, there is no water in the bathroom, and there is no water in the toilet. It took a long time to call to come. Let's talk about the advantages. 1. Have your own private beach, the quality is not bad The restaurant is delicious 3. The whole hotel view and exterior design are not bad, very beautiful 4. The service staff are not bad and very nice

GGuest UserGorgeous beach in palms, clean white sand, clean water and a long beach side! One of the best beach and the best View from balcony (Ocean front room). A great thanks to Trisha, Front manager who was very professional and supportive and helped me to solve a room problem at the beginning. Definitely will comeback to this hotel! Great beach and facilities to spend a good time. Very friendly staff every where: cleaning, restaurants, bars ets. And a good massage in a SPA Renova provided! Thanks to Aziza for a good aromatherapy massage !

AAnonymous UserThe bungalow was beautiful, thoughtfully designed with local touches, and reflected the property's strong commitment to sustainable tourism. It was spacious, comfortable, well-appointed, and provided a relaxing atmosphere throughout our stay. The resort is design-focused and exudes a tranquil, laid-back vibe. We loved the stunning beach with its crystal-clear waters and the lush greenery surrounding the property. What impressed us most was how the resort consistently maintained a high standard in every aspect of our stay. The food was consistently excellent, with both breakfast and dinner offering a great variety of high-quality, flavourful dishes made from fresh ingredients. The service from the staff was outstanding. The entire Zuri team delivered impeccable hospitality. Everyone was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. We can't wait to return and reconnect with some of the wonderful people who made our stay so special. Highly recommended!

AAnonymous UserThe entire island experiences intermittent power outages. I encountered this about three times a day in both the restaurant and my room, each lasting less than ten seconds before power was restored. Some of the staff, especially a female chef at one of the restaurants (the head chef rotates nightly), showed clear disdain for Asian guests. Upon check-in, a male front desk staff member saw that I only had a small backpack (a tiny summit pack, as my main luggage was left in Kilimanjaro and not brought to Zanzibar). I was already carrying it myself, but he forcibly took it from me, even after I told him it wasn't necessary, clearly trying to earn a tip. Once in the room, he kept making small talk and wouldn't leave, seemingly afraid I wouldn't tip him. I ended up giving him one. When I was checking out, my flight was delayed, so I asked if I could extend my check-out by an hour. The staff confirmed that an extension wasn't possible, but I could still use the hotel's beverage, snack, and other facilities. Since I had an all-inclusive package, I double-checked with a male staff member on the phone and a female staff member at the front desk about getting a drink, given my flight was delayed by three hours (my check-out was at 12 PM, and I hoped to leave around 1 PM). They both said it was fine. So, at 12:30 PM, I had a glass of orange juice by the pool. At 1 PM, as I was leaving the hotel, I was stopped and asked to pay. The staff member who had previously confirmed this with me, along with another server (not the beverage server), debated with me in front of their supervisor. Eventually, the supervisor, James, intervened and told me I could leave. One of the bartenders at the beach bar also displayed discrimination towards Asians, practically fawning over white guests. I sat there for ages, and he ignored me even after I politely asked for the menu twice, pretending not to hear. As soon as a white person sat down, he was instantly there, chatting them up. Overall, I'm dissatisfied with the service. Some staff members' English was poor, leading to communication misunderstandings (and I've studied English for many years and graduated with an English degree). The excessive debating in front of a customer also doesn't reflect good service. There were instances of discrimination and being forced into tipping. The entire service experience was very poor. The beach, however, is excellent, and the hotel's location is good.

GGuest UserFrom the moment we stepped inside the reception to the time we checked out, we had the most memorable stay. The whole resort was beautifully presented, clean, luxurious and peaceful. We booked the partial sea view room and it was fabulous from all the little details inside to the private verandah outside, perfect for relaxing whilst reading a book or watching the boats go by on the sea. The infinity pool was in pristine condition, the breakfast and dinner buffet had a great selection and the Jetty restaurant was convenient for lunch too. The service all round was exceptional, everyone was friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful experience. We will be recommending Essque Zalu Zanzibar to our friends and family and are looking forward to visiting again!

GGinge5Tui Blue Bahari is 5*+ There is space, good food, great private beaches, 5 restaurants, friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. There were more sunbeds than guests when we stayed and towels are available poolside. There are bars in the garden, by the beach and at the pool, which are all manned with waiters and bar staff who are happy and efficient. The hotel has security and a private beach and the local tour sellers wait at the beach for you to engage. If you walk straight into the sea from the resort you'll find starfish, urchins and Dory fish. The room door we had wouldn't lock with a firm push and a couple times after the cleaners had been it was unlocked. Overall though 9.5/10 I'd recommend for any special occasion, or for those who want to safari in Tanzania, or swim with dolphins in Mnemba.
