Getting There - Speed train to Huangshan Bei (North) station or fly to the Huangshan Airport. Then taxi or Didi to your hotel. Attractions - Take a leisurely walk down Tunxi Old Street and enjoy the local cuisine, or visit one of the many restaurants or bars. FFFFF sandwich cafe has the best jaffles in town. Or visit Yungpu or Yungpi scenic area of Huangshan South scenic area (Yellow Mountain) via shuttle bus and then cable car up the mountain. We left our luggage at a local cafe and our luggage was well looked after. You can also visit the hot spring scenic area near the Huangshan South scenic area. If you enjoy visiting ancient villages, Hongcun and Xidi are worth visiting. Hotels - Shanshui Boutique Hotel 山水间喜新恋旧 is a Japanese style hotel with Sushi restaurany and friendly, and helpful English speaking receptionist , Xiao Xi, on the shopping street and about 300m from Tunxi Ancient street. We also stayed at the Hongcun Scenic Hotel inside the Hongcun Scenic area. You can also stay on the mountain in Yungpi or Behai hotel, but it is quite a walk to get there, so pack lightly if you decide to stay on the mountain. There is also a nice hotel at the foot of Yungpu cable car area, but I don't know the name of the hotel. Food & Restaurants - Too many in the area to single one out, many ranging from Korean, Japanese, street food to local Chinese cuisine. Shopping - Local trinkets, tea, clothes and jewellery, depending on your taste.#newyearadventure

🍃 Out of the three ancient towns, I chose Xidi and Hongcun to visit in one day. Compared to the crowded Hongcun where it's hard to find a good angle, Xidi is perfect for taking photos! 🌿 The vast fields nearby are incredibly open, healing, and beautiful. If I had arrived a bit earlier, it would have been all rapeseed flowers, and I can imagine how gorgeous that would be! 🏯 For those who appreciate culture and history, Xidi also fully satisfies. With two large ancestral halls, the residences of famous merchants from the past, and the archway at the entrance of the scenic area, you can see the three treasures of Hui-style architecture all at once. 📷 For landscape photography enthusiasts, it's really important to visit Hongcun when it's less crowded; there are too many tour and study groups. The most photogenic spots, Nan Lake and Yuezhao, are constantly crowded, making it hard to get a clean shot.

Compared to the crowded and commercialized Hongcun, these four lesser-known ancient villages each have their own unique characteristics and are worth visiting: Nanping Village Ticket: Free Transportation: About 6 kilometers by taxi from Yi County town area More secluded than Hongcun, this ancient village has been a filming location for Zhang Yimou's 'Ju Dou' and Ang Lee's 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'. I was curious about what kind of magic it holds, and after visiting, I discovered that Nanping Village's ancestral halls, maze-like ancient alleys, and primitive Hui-style architecture... all are fascinating. Bishan Village Ticket: Free Transportation: 4-5 kilometers by taxi from Yi County town area A rare artistic ancient village in China, and also my favorite ancient village in Anhui, Bishan Village is hidden among a large expanse of fields. Many alleys in the ancient village are basically deserted, very quiet, giving a serene Jiangnan vibe. Spending half a day here can make one feel much more relaxed. It even rained a little when I was there, but it didn't affect the scenery at all; on the contrary, Xidi Ancient Village in the rain is even more charming. Travel Tip: Spring has frequent showers, but they are mostly brief, so it's advisable to bring an umbrella for sunshade or rain protection. The village has many rapeseed flowers, and they are all photogenic, but be aware of mosquitoes and consider bringing mosquito repellent. The village is not large, so there's no need to deliberately look for photo spots; just wander around, and you might stumble upon a surprise at the next corner. Surrounded by mountains, the ancient village of Xidi in Anhui has always been known as a 'home in Peach Blossom Land.' Xidi Ancient Village is located to the east of Yi County in Anhui Province, within the Huangshan Scenic Area of Yi County, Anhui Province. Covering an area of nearly 13 hectares, the village has a history of over 950 years and currently has 3 ancestral halls and 1 archway from the 14th to the 19th century, as well as 224 ancient residential buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Xidi Village has preserved the typical style of ancient Ming and Qing villages to this day, earning it the nickname 'a living museum of ancient residences'. Entering the village, you are greeted by a tall archway, and as you walk along the main road by the lake, the ancient waterwheel turns slowly and heavily. A pond of clear water reflects the black-tiled and white-walled Hui-style architecture, perfectly blending with the golden rapeseed flowers in front of the doors, presenting a beautiful and enchanting Jiangnan ink painting. Along the way, there are many students and artists painting en plein air, each focused on their brushwork, capturing these beautiful scenes on canvas... Compared to the bustling Hongcun, Xidi feels more authentic and simple, with a much lower degree of commercialization. The village has one main street, which is a commercial street, but beyond that, most of the inhabitants are locals and there are quite a few guesthouses. Walking through the narrow alleys and lanes, you can look up to see tall horse-head walls and white walls and green tiles covered with moss, adorned with festive and auspicious red lanterns🏮. Here, you will forget the passage of time and only feel that the years are peaceful... After entering the scenic area, walk straight along the creek on the far right to see the steps leading to the viewing platform. Then there's wandering through the alleys off the main street, strolling in the original residential alleys. Xidi feels more lived-in compared to Hongcun, with the local life and atmosphere present everywhere. This season, one can behold the splendid golden rapeseed fields and wander through the long streets and short alleys of the ancient village. Recommended route: Hu Wenguang Archway - Taoli Garden - Dongyuan - Hu's Ancestral Hall - Jing'ai Hall - Xiyuan. Xidi is the top stream of ancient Huizhou villages. || The photos are all taken on the 30th-31st of this month. The spatial structure of the streets and alleys is clear, the scale of the streets is pleasant, the commerce is moderate, with rapeseed fields, and with viewing platforms. You can find all the best features of an ancient village combined in Xidi. At dusk, it's brilliantly golden and very lively, while after a rainy morning, it's full of the misty rain typical of the Jiangnan region. Highly recommend staying for a night. There's a light show in the evening, and the next morning you can take a walk in the flower fields, then go up to the spring mountain for a look. Take advantage of the influx of tourists to enjoy the ancient streets when they're less crowded.
